Abstract

This study aims to examine in-depth articles that highlight collaborative learning to improve creative and critical thinking skills, which are published in scientific journals in the field of education in Indonesia. The research conducted includes a type of literature review. The sources of data used in this study were taken from scientific journals accredited by Science and Technology Index (SINTA). The search was limited to articles published from 2017 to 2022. Researchers then reviewed, analyzed, and discussed the content together to evaluate, compile, and refine the reported findings. Among the ten publications, quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design was found to be the most popular. In addition, high school students were chosen the most as research subjects; while the scope of science and mathematics was the most widely used subject, the collaborative model is the most widely applied treatment and is proven to improve students' creative and critical thinking skills; while the test and t-test were the most dominant instruments used for the collection and analysis of research data. The application of research results encourages schools or educational institutions to use collaborative learning models and can be used as evaluation material for various stakeholders who carry out collaborative learning. Several recommendations have been proposed for future research concerning the findings of this study, including the need to increase the diversity of research types that support creative and critical thinking skills as the main focus. It is necessary to increase the frequency of qualitative research on the development of creative and critical thinking skills. It is recommended that researchers choose a more appropriate data analysis technique.

Abstract

In the midst of intense competition between educational institutions today, it is necessary to have a strategy for educational institutions to continue to exist and be of high quality. Every educational institution should have a strategy in efforts to develop educators, because this will have an impact on the quality of the institution. The facts obtained are that the strategies used in development efforts, especially educators, are still less than optimal, resulting in the low quality of an educational institution. This is certainly a concern for all of us, so it is necessary for us to find solutions to these problems. This research is a field research conducted at MadrSasah Tsanawiyah Baitul Makmur, Curup District, Rejang Lebong Regency. The approach used is a qualitative descriptive approach. Sources of data obtained through observation, interviews and documentation. The data is then tested for validity, then analyzed through the process of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the development of teaching staff at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Baitul Makmur Curup was in the good category, but this needs to be improved. The development of educators at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Baitul Makmur Curup is carried out in several steps, including developing programs/planning, determining needs, determining targets, determining programs, identifying program implementation, implementing programs and evaluating program implementation. Meanwhile, the method of developing educators at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Baitul Makmur Curup is on the job training, consisting of job rotation, training, guidance / counseling, job instructor training, demonstrations, and temporary assignments, while off the job training (Training outside of work), consisting of courses, education and training, workshops, seminars, Subject Teacher Consultations, and comparative studies. Abstract

To support the success of teachers, pedagogic competencies are required to be developed and carried out in a sustainable manner. The problem of teachers in the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) effort is faced with various problems that do not only come from the teachers themselves but also from other factors such as policies. This study aimed to obtain information focused on 1) CPD planning to improve pedagogic competence of MAN teachers; 2) Organizing CPD to improve the pedagogic competence of MAN teachers; 3) Implementation of CPD to improve pedagogic competence of MAN teachers; 4) Evaluation of CPD to improve pedagogic competence of MAN teachers. This study used Terry & Rue's Management theory, and Spencer's Theory of Pedagogic Competence and Longman's theory of professionalism. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study method. The technique and instrument of data collection used triangulation method. The data sources used were triangulation of sources namely Head of Education Office, Principal of MAN, Teachers, and members of MGMP. Based on the results, 1) CPD planning has not been fully prepared by the madrasah and teachers. CPD planning is only planned when the teachers will arrange the administrative equipment for promotion, so that it cannot be used as an effort to improve the pedagogic competence of teachers. 2) Organizing CPD has been carried out through the CPD team organized by the madrasah, but in reality, the CPD Team has not been able to fully improve the pedagogic competence of teachers. Thus, the organization has not run effectively in accordance with the applicable guidelines regarding CPD. 3) The implementation of CPD is more directed at efforts to fulfill administrative tasks where teachers are still constrained in the preparation of innovation works, self-development activities and scientific publications; 4) CPD evaluation based on self-evaluation cannot be used as a basis for continuous improvement of CPD. CPD evaluation has not been considered as important for teachers in improving pedagogic competence. Thus, it can be concluded that the CPD to improve the pedagogic competence of MAN teachers has been implemented based on existing regulations and is running in accordance with the CPD program guidelines, but has not shown maximum efforts to improve the pedagogic competence of teachers.

Abstract

The first months of 2020 the COVID-19 or Corona Virus, which originally appeared in China last December 2019, quickly traveled to the Philippines. Locally it had its first case on March 7, 2020. While learning must continue throughout the epidemic, a mindset shift is required for an effective distant learning experience. Lecturers are gradually adapting to remote instruction, some aspects of teaching and learning cannot be recreated at home. This qualitative- descriptive research focused on thoughts and experiences of 16 teachers as they try to reorder and reorganize themselves in the academe. Constrained by the pandemic, responses were collected using the google form and themed accordingly. It used the Thematic Analysis of Braun and Clarke (2006) as a method in analysing the data. The teachers revealed empowerment, trustworthiness of officials, negation, readiness, hopefulness, time management, elusiveness, flexibility, and security shaped them in several aspects amidst this pandemic while realizing the importance of serving students with quality. Administrators, government officials, and others must evaluate how schools might recover faster, with a transformed sense of duty, a deeper knowledge and firmness of the need to bridge the gap in opportunities and ensuring that all kids have equal possibilities for a quality education. The call to exceptional service is a lifetime goal for them, and as academic frontliners with the ability to respond to pandemic issues, they must also ensure optimum safety.
