Abstract

Aluminum foam is a very interesting material to develop. This material is a material that has a combination of characteristics between physical and mechanical properties such as high stiffness and low density. There are several processes for making aluminum foam that have been developed, either through the liquid, solid, or gas phases. And of these various processes, the process of making aluminum foam through the liquid phase by using the gas injection method is the simplest and cheapest process. The principle of the process of making aluminum foam with this method is that bubbles are produced from the process of blowing the gas into the aluminum liquid in which there are additive particles that function as a bubble stabilizer. These stable bubbles will become pores after the aluminum liquid solidifies. This research will discuss the effect of the weight fraction of alumina powder with an average size of 5.77 μm added to liquid aluminum on the macro-pore structure in the form of shape and size as well as the spread of the resulting pores. And the result is that the optimal weight fraction of adding alumina powder is 15%, where the resulting pores have a more homogeneous and evenly shaped and sized.

Abstract

Watering with a robot that uses a nozzle (sprayer) as a device for sprinklers, such as a disinfectant sprayer. To operate this tool, it is controlled using a smartphone to drive a DC pump so that the disinfectant liquid comes out through the nozzle. The disinfectant spraying robot is designed using two DC motors (primary movers) and one DC pump (liquid sprayer) based on an Atmega 8 microcontroller which is controlled by the user via a smartphone with the help of a Bluetooth network. The results of the system test are wireless communication designs to control the robot using a Bluetooth network, namely by installing a bluetooth adapter on the robot so that the robot can receive commands from the user via a smartphone. Watering using 500 ml liquid media, capable of running to spray in the rooms that want to be sprayed with an operating time of 3-5 hours. The movement speed of the robot is 5.3 km/h, the system can rotate 360o and forward, backward, right and left. The nozzle on this robot has a maximum spray distance of 2 meters. From the results of this test, the robot's response is in accordance with what is expected

Abstract

The use of solar energy in Indonesia is the right choice as an alternative energy for energy needs in industry or to meet daily energy needs in households. To utilize solar energy for cooking purposes, a solar cooker can be used. Factors that affect the performance of this solar cooker in addition to the length of time it shines and the intensity of thermal radiation from the sun are the reflexivity of the collector material, the surface area of ​​the collector, the geometric shape and location of the focal point of the collector, the normal direction of the collector surface to the incoming sunlight, and the amount of heat loss to the surroundings. The materials used as reflectors in the research on this solar cooker are zinc (aluminum and galvanized) AL-Zn and black paint back ground mirror glass. This material is re-glued on top of a ready-made parabolic dish from the market. Then look for the focal point that corresponds to the diameter of the parabola. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the back ground mirror glass material with black paint is better to use than the AL-Zn zinc plate if it is used as a raw material for the surface material (reflector) of solar cooker. Likewise, the efficiency of the solar oven in terms of the amount of heat that is converted into energy for heating the pot is better for a solar oven than a reflector with black paint back ground mirror glass material. And the efficiency of the solar cooker from the black paint back ground mirror on the first day is 16.4% to 25.7% on the second day, while the efficiency of the solar cooker from the AL-Zn zinc plate on the first day is 16.4% to second day 22.8%. The emissivity of the solar stove with AL-Zn zinc plate reflector on the first day was 0.02906 and on the second day 0.02892, while the emissivity of the solar cooker with black paint back ground mirror reflector on the first day was 0.01812 and the second day was 0 0.02544.

Abstract

In planning a power generation system using waste as an energy source, it is necessary to conduct an initial analysis of the potential local waste available. Not all waste can be used as the source of thermal energy by burning in an incinerator. Therefore, the selection is required to obtain the suitable waste and characterization to determine the potential thermal energy content in the waste. This article aims to obtain the electrical capacity produced from local waste to generate electricity in some regions of the city of Medan. The analysis is carried out on the availability of the waste and its potential for thermal energy generated. The selected incinerator of the fixed bed type with a two-stage air supply was explained comprehensively. Minimum pollution, high thermal conversion, and ease of operation are the critical point considered for the selected incinerator. The results revealed that 50 kWe was generated from a power plant system using waste. This amount of electricity can provide electricity for 25 households in the area where the case is located. This study is expected to provide sustainable waste management to the city of Medan in converting the waste into the household electricity supply.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of biodiesel fuel from dimethyl ester on four-stroke stationary diesel engines' performance and exhaust emissions. Tests were carried out using B10 and B30 fuels with engine speed variations and load variations without modifying the engine. The results showed that the torque, power, and thermal efficiency tended to decrease when using B10 and B30. In addition, the specific fuel consumption has increased when the engine uses B10 and B30. But exhaust emissions of CO and unburned hydrocarbon (UHC) decreased NOx and increased CO2 when the engine uses B10 and B30. This research also obtains the correlations and regression equations involving engine performance parameters.

Abstract

The current need for electrical energy sourced from fuel oil is increasingly running out and expensive. Anticipating future energy crises will require creativity from energy observers in finding alternative energy sources that can improve people's welfare. We get solar energy for free throughout the year with good intensity, one of which is because Indonesia's position is on the equator. To convert solar heat from the outside into electrical energy, several converter technologies such as solar panels are needed. Solar panels that are directly exposed to solar radiation can produce efficient electrical energy depending on the position of the incident light that hits the surface of the solar panel. Solar panels that can follow the direction of the radiation source at an angle of 90o to the surface of the solar panel must require a solar tracker. Solar tracker is a control circuit that is able to detect and follow the direction of the sun so that the solar panel is always perpendicular to the sun so that the light intensity received by the panel is optimal by adjusting the motor movement. The results of this study indicate a light intensity of 408.10 W/m2 at a wind speed of 1.08 m/s produces a current of 19.20 Volts with an efficiency level of 4.21% at the incoming energy (Pin) 279.05 and the outgoing energy ( Pout) 11.77 W.

Abstract

A company engaged in plastic specialists, with the basic ingredients of PolyEthylene Terephthalate, PolyPropylene, and Hight Impact Polystyrene. Products operated by Extruder machines. Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) with Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA). Availability, Performance, Rate of Quality and OEE of Extruder GW-150. Based on the quantitative analysis of the OEE calculation, the OEE value of the Extruder 1 GW-350 machine is obtained with an average calculation of 79.35%. Based on the qualitative analysis using FMEA, the RPN failure mode score on the Extruder 1 GW-350 engine was obtained. The highest RPN value is the unstable (die) printer of 240.

Abstract

The production process of the company/manufacturing industry still often get obstacles, it made the product specifications produced are not in accordance with the production. However, the company must also evaluate and improve its production process. One of them is PT. XYZ, which is engaged in the production of concrete, namely electric poles and piles. This company produces electric poles with various sizes including 9 meters, 11 meters, 12 meters. This research was conducted to measure the level of productivity and identify problems in the production process of electric poles at PT XYZ. This research used Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) as the methode, which is a calculation carried out to determine the effectiveness of the machine. There are three elements of productivity as well as equipment effectiveness that can be measured by Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), namely availability, performance efficiency, and product quality level. With the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) method in this study, this research tried to measure the level of effectiveness of the electric pole production process and found the root cause of the problems that hindered the achievement of productivity at PT XYZ.

Abstract

Salah satu yang menjadi aset penting bagi perusahaan ialah perencanaan produksi dan pengendalian persediaan bahan baku, apabila terjadi kesalahan pada sistem perencanaan dan pengendalian akan berdampak buruk terhadap kelancaran proses produksi perusahaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peramalan kebutuhan untuk periode selanjutnya, jumlah pesanan yang optimal, penjadwalan waktu yang tepat terhadap pemesanan bahan baku , dan penentuan metode yang menghasilkan biaya paling optimal. Teknik analisis deskriptif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif dalam penelitian ini berawal dari pembuatan jadwal induk produksi, peramalan persediaan, menghitung ukuran lot, penentuan metode lot sizing yang optimal, hingga penentuan waktu pemesanan bahan baku. Perbandingan peramalan persediaan kebutuhan menunjukkan bahwa metode moving average menghasilkan nilai MAD, MSE dan MAPE terendah dengan jumlah permintaan sebanyak 43 kg dibandingkan dengan metode exponential smoothing dengan jumlah permintaan sebanyak 46,8 kg.. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kebutuhan bersih bahan baku adalah selisih antara kebutuhan kotor dengan persediaan ditangan, penentuan besarnya pesanan dengan dua metode menghasilkan, dimana metode Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) merupakan metode dengan total cost terendah sebesar Rp.1.538.400 , dibandingakan dengan metode Lot For Lot (LFL) sebesar Rp.1.650.000. Kata Kunci: Peramalan permintaan, pengendalian persediaan dan material requirement planning.

Abstract

The braking system is a very important mechanism on the vehicle as a safety tool and ensures a safe vehicle. One of the most important parts of the braking mechanism is the brake lining. The influence of material selection, working conditions in the braking process can affect the wear of the brake lining, which has an impact on the life of the brake lining and the hardness of the brake lining. This study varies the working pressure of the braking process from 5, 10 and 15 psi, and compares 8 types of aftermarket brake lining samples with genuine part brake linings. And the results show that in this case it is known that the average hardness of non-genuine aftermarket brake wear is lower than that of aftermarket genuine ones and the wear rate of non-genuine brake lining materials is lower.
