Abstract

The canonical relation between the samkhya philosophy (based on the Samkhya Karika) and Aji Sangkya can be obviously observed through the title. The dualistic –discrimination of the purusha and the prakriti—discourse is always embedded to the samkhya system of philosophy since it was coined by Kapila (600 BC). This discourse has been spread out to all over the world, including the Archipelago. The influence can be read in several texts as Wrhaspati Tattwa and Tattwa Jnana (14th—15th AD) but the discourse of dualistic has been very different, supposedly undergoing a par- adigm shift. The focus of this article is to analyze the paradigm shift signified by the language use based on the radical hermeneutics (deconstruction) supported by the contextual stylistics approach. The result shows that the paradigm shift of the samkhya philosophical discourse is found in Aji Sangkya in several levels as ontological shift of philosophical discourse from materialistic-spirit- ualistic into saivistic-humanistik, from anxiety into saivistic, shift in the philosophical discourse of prakriti atau pradhana, purusha, buddhi atau mahat, ahamkara (ahangkara), manas, and all of the levels of paradigm shift are accumulated in the shift of the philosophical discourse structure or pattern of manifestation. This means that the Aji Sangkya of the Balinese modern philosophical text can be taken as the reformation of the philosophical discourse of samkhya.

Abstract

The simplification of the ceremony is an issue that is being discussed by both intellectuals and the gen- eral public. They are discussing this because it allegedly burdens the community in the midst of today?s fast-paced life. Changes in the times demand that every Balinese person must devote more time to the profession so that very little can be used for the community. Not to mention the basic needs currently increasing which previously did not include counts, such as tuition fees, transportation costs, commu- nication costs, and other types of costs that were initially tertiary and secondary, turned into primary needs. Meeting these many needs, they objected to the expensive ceremony fees. Not a few of them must be willing to give up their inheritance to sell or seek debt only for the sake of yadnya. This work describes the urgency, who plays a role in the effort and how simplification can occur. In this discussion, the tri aspect of dating the yadnya is very important, namely the pandita who presides over the ceremony, the tapini who works the ceremony and the yajamana who holds the ceremony.

Abstract

This article discusses one of the facets of life in ancient Balinese times, namely inheritance, espe- cially family estate belonging to krāngan (family without children/ descendants), or more precisely the king’s policy regarding the inheritance of a childless family. There are three matters concerning the king’s policy on the subject which the writer would like to answer based on the data already found, namely (a) of the principal ratios of inheritance of the family internally, (b) about the parties who have a share of the property, and (c) of the philosophical view underlying the distribution. First, the principal ratio of the division of inheritance used by the king is 1: 2 in the sense that one-thirds of the husband’s inheritance is the wife’s right and two-thirds is the right of the husband. Secondly, the inheritance part of krāngan ampung belonging to the movable property is placed on the sacred building of Hyang Api and belonging to immovable property that is placed on the holy building of Hyang Tanda. Thirdly, the philosophical foundation underlying the king’s policy is that the property possessed by humans in general is as a “borrowing item” that should not be taken to another world.

Abstract

Communication of Hindu people in Bali with their God is never forgetting to use offering and it mate- rials as symbols of universe and human being to look after micro and macro cosmos balances. From various rituals, most of them that dedicated to the God were completed with meat of animals slaugh- tered. Unfortunately, most of them were not completed with slaughter certificate from legislator so, it can?t be detected whether the meat is healthy or not. The offerings were made very artistic, beautiful and interesting physically with an expectation that the God vibration could increase healthy soul and communications with the God as what were said by holy men. But, it must be remember that all offerings that dedicate and communicate with the God must be healthy, clean, free of diseases, etc. as well as  for human consumption. The animals used in the ritual are no need to be slaughtered (?ahimsa?) due to principle of ?adwesta sarwa bhutanam?, it means no kill any creatures (the Holly Book of Hindu, Bhagawad Gta XII. 13 and 14).

Abstract

Hinduism and Balinese culture have become an integral whole. The identity of Hinduism with Balinese culture brings consequences, namely the negative stigma given by many people about gender equality. The Balinese Hindu community in their socio-cultural life generally adopts a patri- archal system that positions women to be subordinate of the men, which is in fact contradictory to Hindu teachings that teach equality, rights and duties. But specifically for the Hindu community in Trunyan Village, Kintamani has the concept of Lanang and Wadon as a reflection of equality of male and female aspects deeply rooted from the religious system to the foundation of the socio-cultural life. The Trunyan Village community’s understanding of the teachings of equality in Hinduism adapt- ed through the local terminology of Lanang and Wadon can be an answer to how Hindu religion teaches flexibly the principle of gender equality of men and women.

Abstract

The background of this paper is to see the reflection and deconstruction of binary opposition theory in socio-religious Balinese society, considering the Balinese is known as a religious, aesthetic, and creative. Aim of this paper is to see the application of critical theories such as binary opposition theory, the decontruction of binary opposition in society, especially the people of Bali. In the reli- gious terminology, the binary opposition is called rwa bhineda, sekala-niskala, purusa-pradana, and linga-yoni. The Balinese acknowledged the contradictory opposition but did not denial. But the Balinese deconstruct the opposition with the same degree of recognition and for the realization of harmony. This unification is reflected in various Hindu traditions such as Usabha Kaulu and Daa Malom dance in Ngis village. Such reflection and decontruction prove the Balinese with local action and global thinking.

Abstract

Raja Yoga is a method to connect one?s self to the almighty God (Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa) through the means of tapa, brata, yoga, semadhi. This method is conceptualized in Astangga Yoga passed down by Rsi Patanjali. Terminologically, the practice of Raja Yoga is covered in local genius existed in Terunyan village, Bangli regency. It is done by the so called Teruna (a group of teenagers) as a part of sacred procession of Barong Brutuk dance. Essentially, Raja yoga can be seen in the Makemit process for 42 days with a set of rules, prohibition, and ritu- al they call Tirtha Kayan Teruna. The success of the Raja Yoga according to local condition is when the teruna achieves niyasa, or a condition where the body and soul become one with God in its system, not overtaking the trance as other sacred dances do in Bali.

Abstract

Human is a perfect being compared to other beings. Human perfection can be seen from the ability to think in solving the problems it faces. One of them is the problem of subjectivity. The problem of our self view to the others. It can not be denied in almost every life, most human problems that come to the surface as a form of conflict because of the inequality status in religious, social, political and economic. The doctrine of ahimsa taught by Gandhi to the world is the core of the various spiritual social experiences that we can make as the basic philosophy building, nurturing and fostering of tolerance life. By doing spiritual disciplines like prayer, service, devotion, loyal to the truth and de- veloping universal love as a form of spiritual experiences, the life of the universe will be filled with peace and harmony.

Abstract

The Mabersih Dukuh ceremony is a unique ceremony carried out by Nyuwung residents in the village of Abianbase Gianyar. It is said to be unique because this ceremony is a kind of initiation that has a different form from the conventional initiation system that has been commonly carried out so far. Mabersih Dukuh ceremony can be coordinated like Pawisik, Mapekeling, Nyumbah, ngunggahang banten, ngarga tirtha, mar- eresik, prayer, mabyakala, malukat, foot cleansing process, Seda Raga and the stages of Natab Banten Suci, Makemit at the Panyuwungan Panti temple and Munggah Dukuh Pengarep ceremony. Mabersih Dukuh cer- emony has theological implications, namely the meeting of two teachings between Brahmaism and Sivaism. These two understandings go hand in hand as can be seen from the Mabersih Dukuh ceremony procession. This article describes in full how the chronology of the ceremony and the various things related to it. Through this description it is expected that there is a pattern of elaboration on the existence of unique ritual culture that is worthy of being known by the public so that they are increasingly aware of the diversity of religious cultures inherited by their ancestors. The inspiration obtained is an effort to save this tradition by the young- er generation so that the estapet of noble civilization continues to run well.
