Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the quality of the final test in terms of difficulty level, discrimination leves, distractor effectiveness, validity, and reliability for senior high school students in second grade at SMA Negeri 3 Parepare. This research used a quantitative design with content analysis. The investigation was conducted at SMA Negeri 3 Parepare. The subject was 134 English final test form the second grade. However, the researcher took 58 students from three classes to serve as test subjects, with the sample for this research being retrieved utilizing a random selection group technique. They were XI MIPA 1, XI MIPA, and XI IPS 1. Based on the overall analysis of the 30 test items, it can be concluded that the final test for senior high school at the second grade SMA Negeri 3 Parepare was of medium difficulty (p), meaning that the test was neither too easy nor too tough. On the discrimination (D) scale, there were 6 (20%) items with outstanding classification, 1 (3,33%) item with adequate classification, and 23 (76,6%) items with good classification. Distractor effectiveness is likewise weak, since 12 (40%) of the items have very poor distractors. On the validity 9 (30%) items were invalid and need to be replaced. However, 21 (70%) items were valid. The final test for senior high school at the second grade SMA Negeri 3 Parepare is reliable since the reliability index 0,972, it was higher than the table value of critical of product moment it has shows that the final test was reliable.

Abstract

Teaching strategy is a plan, method or series of activities designed for the following purposes achieve certain learning goals. teaching strategy designed to achieve specific goals. Which means from making a strategy is to achieve a goal. In this study the researcher want to see how the teacher's strategy in implementing the learning process, especially in managing the online class at UPT SMA Negeri 4 Parepare. This research focused on the teachers’ strategies used in teaching English through online classes during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This study aimed at answering the following research questions (1) What are the obstacle of strategies in English teaching through online classes during COVID-19 pandemic at UPT SMA Negeri 4 Parepare? (2) How is the effectiveness of teachers’ teaching strategy of teaching English during COVID-19 pandemic at UPT SMA Negeri 4 Parepare? This type of research was field research with qualitative approach. Data collection techniques in this research are In-depth interview, observation checklis and documentation. The result of study showed that (1) Monitor the student , Student Motivation (2) The strategy of English teachers in teaching English in online classes has not been said to be effective because they only provide understanding of the material, after that give assignments.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the nature of classroom interaction carried out by the pre-service teacher and class VII students at SMP Negeri 2 Tejakula. The theories used are Malamah-Thomas (1987) and the IRF classroom pattern. The method used is qualitative with case studies. The instrument in this study was a video recording of the learning process, which was analyzed using naturalistic observations and document analysis. Based on the research, it was found that the teacher and students did several types of classroom interaction, such as teacher speaking to the whole class, teacher speaking to an individual, teacher speaking to a group of students, student speaking to teacher, student speaking to another student, student speaking to group members, and student speaking to the whole class. Based on the IRF classroom pattern, the most dominant pattern is IRF (complete pattern).

Abstract

Mastering speaking skills needs a long process and a suitable way of learning. In Indonesia itself, the students still have a high dependency on the teacher which makes them being more difficult to learn speaking skills with that behavior. This study purposes a learning model namely Self-Regulated Learning to reduce the students dependency on the teacher. Therefore, this study aims to describe the implementation of Self-Regulated Learning and the students perception as well. The sample population of this study is 22 students of 10th graders at Senior High School 1 Sampang and one of the English teacher there with purposive sampling. The researcher gave a questionnaire, a self-reflection diary, and interviewed the samples to collect the data. It was found that Self-Regulated Learning is a suitable and helpful learning model that makes the students can organize their learning, know themselves better, and improve their speaking skills. Meanwhile, the teacher also should accompany the students by creating a good learning environment and building a strong relationship with each other. The teacher also should concern with students who have low motivation because they are less of improvement in implementing Self-Regulated Learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe the analysis of difficulties in Online English Learning experienced by the EFL teacher at SMP 5 Parepare. This research used descriptive qualitative method with the population in this research was the English teacher at SMPN 5 Parepare. The sample technique used was totally sampling so that the sample of 4 English teachers obtained. Data collection techniques used in this research were interviews and voice recordings. The research of data analysis from Interview showed that the way the English Teacher delivered the class by online system in this pandemic covid-19. It was dominated by the using of learning applications as media of this new learning method. All of the English teacher at SMP 5 Parepare used WhatssApp application to delivered their class by using another application to prepare the materials. The students used the specific learning application for examination or task such as G-Form and Quizizz. The writer found some troubles/difficulties experienced by the English teachers at SMP 5 Parepare. The troubles/difficulties experienced by the English teachers at SMP 5 Parepare such as, network constraints, limited internet quota, there are some students who do not have their own learning tools in the form of mobile phone or Laptop, and the lack of enthusiasm of the students themselves. The students who lack of response in this case, could be the students those do not have mobile phone or laptop. So, it was started from the cause that is the student do not have private online learning tools.

Abstract

This research is Classroom Action Research about Improving The Qualiy Of The Teaching And Learning Of Speaking Skill through The Implementation of Storytelling Technique assisted with The Personal Photograph. The main objectives of the research were: (1) to improve the students’ speaking skill in English lesson which was integrated with the other skills, such as listening, reading and writing. (2) to improve the students’ ability in using the language aspects, such as vocabulary, grammar and pronounciation having a direct correspondence to speaking skill. Making used of the classroom action based research procedure, the result of the study conveyed that the implementation of Storytelling assisted with the personal photograph could improve the students’ speaking skill. At the same time it could also improve their ability in using the aspects of the language, such as vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.

Abstract

English medium instruction has been used in many education levels. Although L2 learners study English since primary education, some of them still cannot communicate and write well in English. It is probably caused by lack of self-esteem, motivation, comprehensible input, and interaction. The present study aimed to investigate the use of English medium instruction on EFL students at tertiary education level. This study employed a quantitative method. The participants of this study were 45 undergraduate students at Khon Kaen University, Thailand. A survey questionnaire regarding the use of English medium instruction with a five point likert scale was assigned to the participants in order to obtain the data. The result of this study revealed that there are some subjects that use English as medium of instruction. Furthermore, the students stated that they got exposure in English in several ways such as read textbook, watch YouTube, and write power point in English. The results also showed that the students’ English ability significantly improve regarding the use of English as medium of instruction

Abstract

Translation has now become subject matter since its role as cross-culture and cross-language mediator. This research, then, aims to unfold the translation strategy and ideology reflected in literary work. The data source are the American short story “The Lottery“ written by Shirley Jackson and its Indonesian version “Undian“ translated by Harum L Wibowo. This research employ qualitative approach and descriptive method. Both of the strategy of literary translation theory by Kazakova (2015) and translation ideology theory by Venutti (1994) are used to answer the question of the research. This research found that translator used all four strategies of literary translation proposed by Kazakova; helper strategy (35,57%), observer strategy (26,17%), enlightener strategy (20,13%), and adherent strategy strategy (18,12%). It also found that the strategy used by translator alternately applied both foreignization and domestication ideology on his translation process. Thus, while preserving the foreign culture and language, the translator also adapt ST/SL into TT/TL in his translation process to make it fluent to the target reader.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the level of self-efficacy beliefs of eleventh graders at SMKN 7 Bone. This research method uses descriptive quantitative methods by means of an instrument that gives students a questionnaire about self-efficacy beliefs. This research used a purposive sampling technique involving 20 students from the hospitality department as the sample. Data collection is done by giving directions to students, distributing questionnaires to students, and collecting all the questionnaires that have been answered by students. Data were analyzed by means of preparation, tabulation, and implementation. The levels of self-efficacy belief are divided into very low, low, medium, high, and very high. Once collected, the data is calculated, and the results are converted into percentages (%). The results obtained from this research show that the magnitude dimension gets an average score of 3, the generality dimension gets an average score of 3.04, the strength dimension gets an average score of 3, and overall this research gets an average score of 3.01. From these results, it is converted into a percentage of the value, which is 75.25%, which indicates a high level. With the results of the research, it was concluded that the level of self-efficacy belief of eleventh graders at SMKN 7 Bone is on average high.

Abstract

Quizizz is a free online-based formative assessment tool that allows the teacher to conduct both assessments in class or online teaching. This study used Quizizz as an assessment tool for the midterm exam of the first semester English department or EFL students in IAIN Parepare. The method used is technology-based applied research. The instrument used was a midterm exam for the English department students. The midterm exam consists of 15 questions with multiple choice question types. This exam was attended by 18 students. The questionnaire was made using a Mentimeter. The use of Quizizz has a good and positive impact and response. The level of accuracy of students' success in answering questions correctly in this class was 78%. The highest score is 100% and the lowest is 61%. Then 85% prefer Quizizz as an assessment tool compared to paper and google forms.
