Abstract

PT. Petrokimia Gresik is a fertilizer and non-fertilizers producing company. Purified gypsum is a by-product of the production of Phosphoric Acid, which is used as a mixture in cement products. As production activities progress, there are producing results that have poor quality/defects, therefore we analyze to find the factors that cause product defects. The method used is the Six Sigma (DMAI) method which starts by calculating the DPMO value and determining the Sigma Level against two predetermined key parameters, namely Crystal H2O and CaSO4.2H2O. The data used are historical data from purified gypsum analysis in April 2022 and data from brainstorming with several production operators. After calculations for Crystal H2O levels, DPMO values of 263,420 and Sigma levels of 2.24 were obtained. For CaSO4. 2H2O obtained a DPMO value of 285,921 and a Sigma Level of 2.21. Based on these results, PT. Petrokimia Gresik has process capabilities below the company standards set in Indonesia with a Level Sigma of 3.4. The cause of defective products due to reactions in reactors that have not been maximized because the incoming raw materials have poor quality. Filter cloth is saturated due to poor quality. The difficulty of control in the field is due to the uneven quality of raw materials.

Abstract

Internal corrosion is a key factor affecting the integrity and reliability of gas transmission pipelines. This study evaluates the corrosion rate and estimates the remaining life of ASTM A333 Grade 6 material using the weight loss-based corrosion coupon method. Measurements were conducted at three locations: an offshore platform (CC-01), a riser/subsea transition section (CC-02), and an onshore receiving station (CC-03), with a 30-day exposure period. Corrosion rates were determined according to ASTM G31, while remaining life was estimated based on API 570 and ASME B31.8. The results showed corrosion rates of 0.846; 0.524; and 0.188 mpy, all classified as low. Estimated remaining life values were 97.65, 157.71, and 439.68 years. Low corrosion rates were associated with dry gas conditions, low CO₂ and H₂S partial pressures, and the absence of free water. The pipeline system remains within acceptable integrity limits. Accordingly, API 570 inspection intervals should be maintained to ensure reliability and safety.

Abstract

The food and beverage industry in Indonesia continues to grow rapidly, including in the bakery sector. Tous Les Jours Bakery is one of the industry players facing challenges related to a high product defect rate (reject rate) in its production process. Defective products cannot be resold, resulting in financial losses and resource waste. Therefore, this study aims to identify and reduce the reject rate using the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) method and Poka Yoke. Measurements taken from September 2023 to February 2024 show an average DPMO of 9,555.93 and a sigma level of 3.844. Donut and regular bread categories contributed approximately 65% of the total defects. Accordingly, improvement recommendations were proposed for these two categories, including the use of timers, automatic molds, temperature sensors, and standardized procedures for proofing, frying, and baking processes.

Abstract

This study analyzes the downtime patterns of ship navigation systems to formulate an optimal preventive maintenance strategy to improve operational efficiency. A case study was conducted at PT Pawitra Daya Teknik using historical data of 113 work orders from 11 ships during December 2025–February 2026. Methods include descriptive analysis, MTTR, MTBF, availability calculations, statistical distribution testing (Minitab), exponential reliability function, age replacement model, and cost comparison between reactive and preventive scenarios. Results show that Radar and GPS are the most critical systems (contribute >59% of downtime duration) with software failures as the main cause (42%). The optimal preventive maintenance intervals are differentiated: Radar and GPS are serviced more frequently (every 260 hours and 410 hours, respectively), while other systems are serviced less often. This strategy reduces annual downtime by 21.6%, increases availability by 0.26%, and generates operational cost savings of approximately IDR 409 million per year. In conclusion, the preventive maintenance strategy based on a 60% reliability target is proven to be technically and economically optimal.

Abstract

Clay soils with high plasticity often pose challenges in construction due to their tendency to swell when wet and shrink when dry, resulting in low bearing capacity. This study investigates the effectiveness of soil stabilization using Bacillus subtilis bio-cementation combined with pozzolanic fly ash on soft clay in Wonoayu, Sidoarjo. Soil samples were collected at depths of 100–150 cm and prepared with varying proportions of fly ash (10%, 20%, and 30%) and bacterial suspension (3%). The stabilization performance was evaluated through the Proctor test to determine optimum moisture content (OMC) and maximum dry density (MDD). Results indicate that the addition of fly ash and Bacillus subtilis significantly reduced OMC while increasing MDD compared to natural soil. The most effective mixture was 30% fly ash and 3% Bacillus subtilis, yielding an OMC of 19% and MDD of 2.443 gr/cm³. These findings suggest that the combination of fly ash and Bacillus subtilis offers an efficient and environmentally friendly method for improving the compaction and mechanical properties of expansive clay soils.

Abstract

Alkali–polymer systems in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) improve oil displacement efficiency through mobility control and interfacial tension reduction. This study analyzes the effect of pH variation on rheological stability and emulsion performance of a xanthan gum–NaOH alkali–polymer system. Laboratory tests were conducted using brine with 10,000 ppm salinity at pH 9, 10, 11, and 12 under temperatures of 25 °C and 90 °C. The evaluated parameters included 24-hour solution compatibility, viscosity, and emulsion formation using light oil. The results showed that the system was compatible at pH 9–11, while instability occurred at pH 12. Viscosity increased from 2.11 cP at pH 9 to 2.13 cP at pH 10, then decreased to 2.01 cP at pH 11. Significant emulsion formation began at pH 11, producing a weak Winsor III middle phase.

Abstract

CV. Bumi Nusantara is a company engaged in the production of non-subsidized NPK fertilizer. The problem faced by the company is that production planning has been carried out based solely on estimates and experience without using a structured scientific method, resulting in the inability to accurately anticipate demand fluctuations. The Goal Programming method is used because it is capable of solving problems involving multiple objectives and priorities within a single mathematical model. The research data were obtained from production and demand data, machine capacity, labor, and production costs. The results of the study indicate that the Goal Programming method can produce a more optimal production plan by minimizing deviations from the targets set by the company. In addition, this method helps the company allocate resources effectively so that the production process becomes more directed. Therefore, the implementation of Goal Programming can serve as an alternative solution to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of NPK fertilizer production planning in the company.

Abstract

UD. XYZ is a company engaged in the production of flooring, lambersering, and decking products. This study was conducted due to the company's inability to consistently achieve production targets and the existence of workload imbalances along the production line. These conditions are indicated by bottlenecks at several production processes, idle time, and the accumulation of work in process (WIP), which negatively affect operational efficiency. The objective of this research is to analyze and develop improvements to production line balancing using the Ranked Positional Weight (RPW) method. Data were collected through direct field observations, including work time measurements for each work element, data adequacy testing, and data uniformity testing. The results show that the implementation of the RPW method reduced the number of workstations from five to three, increased line efficiency from 45.64% to 92.85%, and decreased balance delay from 54.36% to 7.15%. Therefore, the RPW method can be considered an effective alternative for improving line balance and production efficiency in the wood processing industry.
