Abstract

The oleochemical industry carries high occupational safety and health (K3) risks due to its use of chemicals, high pressure and temperature, and complex production processes, one example being the Fatty Alcohol Plant at PT Bakrie Renewable Chemicals. This study identifies potential hazards, assesses risk levels, and analyzes control measures for chemical exposure using the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC) method, applying a descriptive-qualitative approach through field observation, interviews, document review, and literature study. Seven risk-prone activities were identified: chemical receiving, storage, raw material transfer, vapor leakage and ventilation, heating-cooling operations, distillation-purification, and maintenance, with two activities falling into the high-risk category, four into medium, and one into low. The highest risks were found in chemical vapor leakage (R=15) and process heating (R=12). Risk control follows the hierarchy of control: engineering controls, administrative controls, periodic inspection, ventilation improvement, gas detectors, preventive maintenance, and personal protective equipment (PPE), measures that reduce workplace accident risk while improving industrial environmental management.

Abstract

Wellbore instability caused by swelling clay represents a major technical challenge in drilling operations. This study aims to analyze and compare the effectiveness of Potassium Chloride (KCl) as an inorganic shale inhibitor and Polyamine as an organic polymer inhibitor in suppressing the swelling rate of reactive clay minerals. The experimental method was conducted in the laboratory using a Linear Swell Meter (LSM) for 24 hours with inhibitor concentration variations of 1%, 3%, and 5%. The test results indicated that KCl demonstrated significantly superior performance compared to Polyamine in controlling clay expansion. The final swelling value of KCl decreased significantly with increasing concentration, from 42.30% (1% concentration) to 22.35% (5% concentration), due to the ability of K+ ions to enter the interlayer space and suppress hydration. Conversely, Polyamine was less effective, with swelling values remaining high above 35% across all concentrations (35.89% at 5% concentration), as its mechanism is limited to surface encapsulation without optimally arresting crystal expansion. In conclusion, KCl at a 5% concentration provides the best formation stability and is highly recommended to minimize the risk of wellbore instability in reactive clay formations.

Abstract

The high risk of traffic accidents driven by human error particularly fatigue associated with shift work can compromise driver alertness. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of cognitive ergonomics using the Situation Awareness Rating Technique (SART) among inter-city, inter-provincial (AKAP) bus drivers on the Purbalingga-Jakarta route, specifically examining differences in situation awareness levels between morning and night shifts. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, involving 16 drivers divided into two shifts. The results indicated an average driver age of 35 years and an average work experience of two years across both shifts. An independent sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.063, indicating no significant difference in situation awareness between the morning and night shifts, although the mean score for the night shift was slightly lower than that of the morning shift. Recommendations include managing rest schedules, conducting periodic health check-ups, and evaluating shift rotation practices.

Abstract

Milling operations on the sand trap of Well X, Field Y—a mature field—face reduced cleaning efficiency due to uncertain pressure loss distribution within the Coiled Tubing Unit (CTU) circulation system. This study analyzes the magnitude of pressure losses, maps the specific locations of hydraulic energy depletion, and determines the optimal pump flow rate to establish a safe hydraulic window that prevents lost circulation. The method applied is a mathematical hydraulic analysis covering hydrostatic pressure, bit pressure loss (Pb), annular velocity (AV), and Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD), with sensitivity analysis across three pump flow rates (1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 bbl/min). Results show pressure losses accumulate at three critical points: inside the coiled tubing due to helical buckling, at the junk mill nozzle, and across the Positive Displacement Motor (PDM), which suffers wear from abrasive sand. A flow rate of 1.2 bbl/min (50.4 gpm) proved optimal, yielding an annular velocity of 184.24 ft/min—exceeding the minimum critical limit (>180 ft/min)—while maintaining ECD at 8.534 ppg, safely below the formation fracture gradient.

Abstract

Increasing competition in the machinery repair service industry requires companies to improve operational performance through effective human resource management. One important factor contributing to operational excellence is the implementation of a strong safety culture, which promotes disciplined work behavior, improves compliance with operational procedures, and enhances business performance. This study aims to analyze the effect of safety culture implementation on employee work behavior to improve operational performance in a machinery repair service company in Jakarta. A quantitative survey was conducted involving 30 employees selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using simple linear regression. The results indicate that safety culture has a positive and significant effect on employee work behavior with a regression coefficient of 0.490, a t-value of 5.063, a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 47.8%. As a practical implication, a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) was developed for the Rewinding Electro Motor process to support work standardization and improve the company's operational performance.

Abstract

The locomotive driver's cabin receives high thermal loads due to solar radiation through the large glass field and heat from the diesel engine room, thus requiring an air conditioning system with the right capacity for the comfort and safety of the operator. This study calculated the cooling load of the CC 206 Locomotive cab and compared it with the installed air conditioning capacity. Calculation using the CLTD/SCL approach heat load method (Hidayat & Restu, 2017; ASHRAE; SNI 03-6572-2001) with data on the structure and material of the casing from the technical data of the facility, at the design conditions of cabin temperature 25.5 °C, outside temperature 32.78 °C, and engine room temperature 40 °C.  The conductance value (U) of each element is calculated from the arrangement of the material layers. The results showed a total cooling load of ± 2,585 W (≈ 2,222 kcal/h; ≈ 0.73 TR), dominated by solar radiation through glass and ventilation latent loads. The capacity of the TERMORAIL TRC-8000 installed air conditioner is 8,000 kcal/hour, approximately 3.6 times the calculated load of tune; The margin is functional for pull-downs and extreme conditions. It was concluded that the installed air conditioning unit is very adequate in a tune-like manner, with the potential for optimization in glass shading and compressor capacity regulation.

Abstract

Well reactivation is an effort to restore production from wells that have ceased operation due to technical and operational constraints. EVR-595 Well at Pertamina EP Sangasanga Field faced difficulties in rig service mobilization because of limited well pad area. This study aims to evaluate the success of well reactivation through the casing cutting method based on well pad layout and well integrity aspects. A descriptive quantitative case study was conducted using layout, well profile, production, and NORSOK D-010 standard data. The results show that cutting the casing by 5.17 m increased the working area to 6,760 m², exceeding the minimum rig service requirement of 2,340–2,700 m². The well integrity evaluation indicated that the formation pressure of 164.975 psi remained below the allowable limit. After reactivation, fluid production increased from 385.44 to 389.97 BFPD, while oil production decreased due to higher water cut. The casing cutting method successfully supported the reactivation of EVR-595 Well.

Abstract

Digital economic transformation has expanded platform-based work, yet the flexibility of food-delivery work is accompanied by cognitive, temporal, and emotional demands. This study analyzes the mental workload of ShopeeFood drivers in Surakarta, identifies the dominant NASA-TLX dimension, and formulates improvement recommendations. A quantitative descriptive study was conducted from March to July 2026 with 100 active drivers selected through purposive sampling; the minimum sample was determined using the Lemeshow formula. Data were collected using the NASA-TLX questionnaire and processed in Microsoft Excel. The mean Weighted Workload (WWL) score was 73.22, indicating a high workload; 93% of respondents were classified as high and 7% as very high. Temporal Demand contributed the most (19.17%), followed by Frustration Level (18.72%) and Mental Demand (18.08%). Recommendations emphasize regular breaks, work-duration control, route planning, emotional regulation, daily targets, and routine checks of driver and vehicle condition.

Abstract

The Sari Asih Cassava Chips Factory is still dominated by manual work activities that may pose ergonomic risks due to non-ergonomic working postures. This study aimed to evaluate workers' ergonomic risks using the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method. An observational study was conducted involving five workers from the frying, chopping, and seasoning workstations through direct observation, anthropometric measurements, the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire, and REBA analysis. The results indicated that workers experienced musculoskeletal complaints with REBA scores of 6 (moderate risk), 8 and 10 (high risk), and 11 (very high risk). The ergonomic risks were primarily associated with bent working postures, repetitive movements, and prolonged static positions. Therefore, improvements in working postures and work facilities tailored to workers' characteristics are necessary to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders while enhancing occupational comfort, safety, and productivity throughout the production process.

Abstract

The Employee Leave Request procedure at the Personnel Department, Spun Yarns Division, PT Indorama Synthetics Tbk, is still manual and paper-based, causing long waiting times and low efficiency. This study maps the current (As Is) process, identifies the most dominant Non-Value Added (NVA) components, and formulates and analyzes a To Be proposal through Business Process Reengineering (BPR) with its gap analysis. This applied, quantitative-descriptive study uses flowcharts and time observation to classify Value-Added (VA) and NVA activities. Results show the As Is process has 9 steps with a total cycle time of 194.00 minutes, of which 153.2 minutes (79.0%) are NVA, mainly waiting time for HOD/Supervisor approval (72.5 minutes) and Remuneration Staff processing (49.8 minutes). The To Be design reduces actors from five to four, eliminates 4 steps, digitizes 2 steps, and automates 2 steps. The gap analysis shows the cycle time cut to 45.80 minutes, a 76.39% efficiency gain.
