Abstract

The work of sound system crews involves transporting, installing, operating, and dismantling heavy, high-tech audio equipment, often over long shifts. These conditions can lead to physical fatigue, work-related stress, and musculoskeletal or hearing disorders. However, the implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) measures in this sector remains limited, meaning that hazard risk identification has not been conducted systematically. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the risk of occupational illnesses among sound system rental workers using the HIRARC (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control) method. The findings indicate that several work activities entail risks ranging from moderate to high, including muscle pain, back pain, physical fatigue, sleep disturbances, hearing impairment, tinnitus, excessive stress, and electric shock. To mitigate these risks, it is recommended that sound system crews use trolleys, employ proper manual handling techniques, manage work hours and rest periods effectively, and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE).

Abstract

Inbound material delays can disrupt logistics operations, warehouse activities, and overall supply chain performance. This study aims to identify risks in the inbound material process, analyze the probability and severity of each risk, and evaluate the risk level using the Risk Matrix method to determine risk mitigation priorities at PT XYZ. This research employed a quantitative descriptive approach using historical inbound material delay data from January to December 2025, collected through observation, interviews, and company documentation. The results identified four major risks, namely vessel delays, limited vehicle availability, delays in the release of the Delivery Order (DO) by the freight forwarding company (EMKL), and traffic congestion and vehicle breakdowns. The Risk Matrix evaluation indicated that vessel delays, as well as traffic congestion and vehicle breakdowns, represent the highest-priority risks requiring immediate mitigation. The findings are expected to provide a basis for developing effective risk mitigation strategies to improve logistics operational performance and minimize inbound material delays.

Abstract

Palm sugar is a local food commodity with the potential to support food security and boost the local economy in West Sumbawa Regency. However, the production process and supply chain still face various challenges, such as waste, low efficiency, inconsistent product quality, and risks that affect the smooth flow of production and distribution. This study aims to analyze waste using the Lean Manufacturing approach, analyze supply chain risks through risk management, and formulate a strategy to integrate these two approaches to improve production efficiency. The study employs a descriptive method with a case study approach through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. Analysis was conducted using Value Stream Mapping, identification of the Seven Wastes, Fishbone Diagrams, and a Risk Matrix. The results show that value-added activities account for only 28.11%, while non-value-added activities account for 71.89%, with “waiting” being the dominant form of waste. The integration of Lean Manufacturing and risk management yields improvement strategies capable of reducing waste, lowering risk, increasing production efficiency, strengthening the supply chain, and supporting local food security.

Abstract

Indonesia's mandatory bioethanol-blending program faces a substantial domestic supply gap, with demand projected to grow from 478,358 KL in 2026 to 1,170,453 KL by 2040. This study examines the investment feasibility of establishing a 100,000 KL/year sugarcane-molasses bioethanol plant in Bojonegoro and its sensitivity to changes in raw-material and selling prices. A quantitative descriptive approach was applied using secondary data from BPS, ESDM, P3GI, and scientific literature. Financial feasibility was assessed through NPV, IRR, Payback Period, and BEP. The base-case scenario yields an IRR of 14.13% (MARR 10%), NPV of IDR 322.45 billion, and a 6-year payback period. Under a sensitivity scenario combining higher molasses prices and lower selling prices, IRR declines to 13% yet remains feasible, with NPV of IDR 70.98 billion and a BEP of 50,000 KL/year. The project is therefore feasible and reasonably resilient to market price fluctuations.

Abstract

Manual Material Handling (MMH) activities are predominantly performed manually and carry the potential to cause musculoskeletal disorders if executed using non-ergonomic postures. Such conditions can reduce work efficiency, making the application of ergonomic principles crucial. This study aims to analyze the impact of ergonomic perception on work efficiency and to evaluate ergonomic risk levels among manual handling workers at PT Karya Limpah Berkah. A quantitative approach—employing both descriptive and associative methods—was used, with a total sampling of 15 workers. Data were collected through observation, documentation, interviews, and questionnaires. Ergonomic risks were evaluated using REBA, RULA, and NIOSH methods, while the relationships between variables were analyzed using Pearson correlation and simple linear regression via SPSS. The results indicate that ergonomic perception has a positive and significant effect on work efficiency (r = 0.894; p = 0.000; R² = 0.800). The highest risk levels were identified in the staffing section (REBA = 10, RULA = 7, LI = 3.08). These findings highlight the need to improve work postures and lifting activities, particularly within the staffing section.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of mental workload and lighting intensity on operators' reaction time before and after lamp replacement, and examines differences in mental workload and reaction time resulting from the intervention. This applied quantitative study involved 32 production operators from five departments (casting, grinding, welding, assembly, and stamping), with mental workload measured using the ASWAT questionnaire adapted from SWAT (Luximon & Goonetilleke, 2001), lighting intensity measured with a lux meter referring to SNI 7062:2019, and reaction time measured using a reaction time meter. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation, simple linear regression, the Shapiro-Wilk test, and the paired sample t-test. Results showed mental workload had a significant positive correlation with reaction time before the intervention (r=0.520; p=0.002) but weakened afterward (r=0.291; p=0.106). Lighting intensity had a significant negative correlation before the intervention (r=-0.377; p=0.034; contribution 14.2%) but was no longer significant afterward (p=0.697). Mental workload (1.84→1.72; p=0.000) and reaction time (247.29→206.56 ms; p=0.021) decreased significantly, indicating improved workplace ergonomics.

Abstract

Occupational accidents may occur in various environments, including higher education laboratories where practical activities involve hazardous equipment and materials. Welding practice is one of the laboratory activities with a high potential for occupational accidents due to exposure to heat, electricity, sparks, fumes, and improper work procedures. Therefore, a systematic risk assessment is necessary to identify potential hazards and develop appropriate control measures. This study aims to identify potential failure modes, evaluate occupational accident risks, and propose risk control strategies in the Welding Practice course of the Mechanical Engineering Education Program at Universitas Negeri Jakarta using the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) method. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed through direct observation, interviews with students, and analysis of course documents, including job sheets and semester learning plans. The results identified nine potential failure modes that may lead to nine types of occupational accidents and thirty possible consequences. Based on the calculated Risk Priority Number (RPN), all identified risks were classified as low-risk categories. Nevertheless, preventive actions remain essential through engineering controls, administrative controls, elimination measures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Abstract

The agricultural sector in Indonesia faces challenges such as labor shortages, increasing harvesting costs, and the need for improved efficiency, making the use of modern harvesting technology like Combine Harvester Rice machines increasingly important. This study aims to analyze the business feasibility of Combine Harvester Rice machines in the Sido Mukti Farmer Group in Luwung Village based on Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Payback Period (PP), and Profitability Index (PI). The research employed a descriptive quantitative method with a case study approach, and data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation involving 43 respondents. The analyzed data include initial investment costs of Rp545,000,000 for the Bimo 110 Plus and Rp499,000,000 for the Bimo 102 SS, operational costs of approximately Rp1,742,000 per hectare, rental rates of approximately Rp2,450,000 per hectare, maintenance costs of approximately Rp7,500,000 per year, an interest rate of 10%–12%, and an economic life of 8 years.     The results show that the Bimo 110 Plus machine is not financially feasible, with an NPV of Rp -11,507,380, PP of 5.45 years, PI of 0.98, and IRR of 9.6%. In contrast, the Bimo 102 SS machine is financially feasible, with an NPV of Rp34,492,620, PP of 5 years, PI of 1.07, and IRR of 12%. Therefore, the Bimo 102 SS is more recommended for use as it provides better economic value for the farmer group.

Abstract

The Brake Coupling is a railway braking system component manufactured through metal casting at PT Pindad (Persero). During the January 2024–June 2025 production period, the product recorded an average defect rate of 0.745%, with 166 defective units out of 22,283 produced. This study aims to identify the dominant defect types, determine their root causes, and propose improvements using the Seven Quality Control Tools, including Check Sheets, Histograms, Pareto Charts, Flow Process Charts, p-Control Charts, and Fishbone Diagrams. The results show that visual defects account for 50.60% of total defects, followed by porosity (41.57%) and cracks (7.83%). Based on the Pareto principle, the two main defect types contribute 92.2% of all defects. The p-control chart indicates the process remains statistically controlled despite noticeable fluctuations. Improvement proposals include standardized work instructions, a molding sand moisture testing program, and reactivation of operator training.

Abstract

PT XYZ is a manufacturing company that produces panel boxes using a Make-to-Order (MTO) production system. However, its production process still contains non-value-added activities that reduce operational efficiency. This study aims to identify waste in the production flow using the Lean Manufacturing approach through Value Stream Mapping (VSM). Data were collected through direct observation, process time measurement, transportation time analysis, and waiting time identification. The results indicate that the total production lead time is 75.95 minutes, value-added activities, non-value-added activities, and necessary but non-value-added activities. The dominant waste identified is waiting, which occurs at several workstations due to process queues. The findings demonstrate that VSM is an effective tool for identifying sources of waste and can serve as a basis for improving production process efficiency.
