Inclusion criteria focused on studies discussing loneliness and e-cigarette use among adolescents. Data extraction involved thematic analysis to identify recurring themes and outcomes. Preliminary findings indicate a positive correlation between feelings of loneliness and increased e-cigarette consumption in adolescents. The review highlights various psychosocial factors, including peer influence and mental health, contributing to this trend. The findings underscore the importance of addressing loneliness as a critical determinant in the promotion of e-cigarette use among youth. Future interventions should consider targeting social connectedness to mitigate the impact of loneliness on health behaviours.

Abstract

Hypertension continues to pose a significant challenge to global health. Early identification of risk factors, particularly those influenced by gender differences, has the potential to markedly enhance treatment processes and outcomes. Artificial intelligence (AI), specifically machine learning (ML), offers a promising avenue for identifying and analysing these critical risk factors. Objective: This study aims to explore the influence of gender differences on risk factors affecting hypertensive patients by examining demographic, medication, clinical, and laboratory data.Method: The study utilized medical records of hospitalized hypertensive patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Yogyakarta, covering the years 2022 to 2023. Logistic regression analysis with Lasso penalty was applied to determine the most influential variables. Additionally, the Random Forest algorithm implemented in WEKA, combined with a 10-fold cross-validation approach, was employed to evaluate the model’s diagnostic performance using metrics such as precision, sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC-AUC). Results: A total of 1,006 patients were included in the sample, comprising 504 males and 502 females. Among the 33 clinical variables analysed, 13 demonstrated non-zero coefficients. For female hypertensive patients, the five most significant risk factors, along with their coefficients, were Haemoglobin (0.03), Diabetes Mellitus (0.04), Lymphocytes (0.06), Anaemia (0.13), and Creatinine (0.15). In male hypertensive patients, the top five risk factors and their coefficients were Acute Kidney Injury (-0.32), Erythrocytes (-0.15), Congestive Heart Failure (-0.03), Leukocytes (-0.02), and Length of Stay (LOS) (-0.01). The model’s overall performance, as reflected by a ROC-AUC score of 0.805, indicates a good level of predictive accuracy. Conclusions: The findings reveal a significant association between gender and hypertension risk factors. These results underscore the potential for gender-specific customization of hypertension treatments, paving the way for more individualized therapeutic strategies and improved patient outcomes.

Abstract

The global substantial evidence highlights that HIV/AIDS-related stigma is a barrier to HIV prevention programs, treatment, and support services. Overcoming stigma and discrimination is the main guiding principle in HIV prevention and control programs. Such overcoming is crucial, especially for indigenous people with HIV/AIDS because they are often marginalized. Based on this background, this scoping review aims to explore the HIV/AIDS stigma and its impact, especially experienced by indigenous people. : This scoping review was conducted from November 2022 to March 2023 by searching for manuscripts on PubMed, Science Direct, Cochrane Library, Wiley, Directory of Open Access Journals, ProQuest, GARUDA, and Gray Literature databases to identify HIV/AIDS stigma and its impact in indigenous people. Three reviewers independently screened the results. The extracted data were then mapped, categorized, and summarized. This study has identified that HIV/AIDS stigma in indigenous people includes curses, divine vengeance, and infectious diseases. Various impacts arising from stigmatization include concealment, discrimination, powerlessness, unequal life opportunities, and social rejection/isolation. Moreover, the stigma impacts the service system and health service providers. It is necessary to have a complex strategy supported by the involvement of health authorities, health workers, and indigenous communities to overcome the problems of HIV/AIDS stigma and to understand the culture of indigenous people to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS.

Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) are still threats to public health. Indonesia ranks third highest in the number of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and new infection cases in the Asia-Pacific region after India and China. One of the sustainable development targets to improve health and well-being is to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030 which refers to the global policy of "Getting to Zeros" using antiretroviral therapy (ARV). This study aims to analyze the determinants of HIV/AIDS treatment adherence through ARV therapy using the Health Belief Model (HBM) theory. Methods: This study used Preferred Reported Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) for systematic review through keyword searches on 10 relevant articles. Databases used include journals from ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and PubMed. Article submission took place in May–June 2023. The article used is an article that contains research in the range of 2015–2023. Results and Discussions: The findings of the article are then screened, filtered, and critically appraised through several inclusion and exclusion criteria. The search results found as many as 10 suitable articles. The results showed a relationship between perceived barriers, perceived benefits, self-efficacy, and cues to action with adherence to ARV therapy in PLWHA. Non-adherence to ARV treatment has multidimensional consequences at both the individual, community, and policy levels. Individually, it can lead to an uncontrolled viral load, increasing the risk of resistance and other factors, including mortality. Conclusions: So it is necessary to increase awareness of the importance of ARV therapy for PLWHA through HBM theory. In addition, it is expected for the closest people to always provide positive support to PLWHA to be compliant in carrying out ARV therapy.

Abstract

Patients undergoing hemodialysis often report lower quality of life. Many factors cause this decline, and physical exercise is one of them. Doing physical activity helps patients live a better life. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between physical activity and the quality of life of CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis at Pandan Arang Hospital, Boyolali. This research method uses a descriptive correlative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample of this study consisted of 121 respondents selected using accidental random sampling techniques. Data were collected using the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire to measure quality of life and IPAQ to measure physical activity, and bivariate test data analysis was performed using the Spearman statistical test. With a significance of alpha = 0.05. The results showed that most patients had high levels of physical activity (69.4%) and high quality of life (66.1%). Physical activity and quality of life were significantly correlated (p-value <0.001), meaning patients' quality of life improved with increased physical activity. A good correlation exists between the quality of life and the physical activity level of hemodialysis patients with chronic kidney disease. Therefore, therapy that emphasizes enhancing the patient's physical activity is strongly advised as part of comprehensive care to improve the quality of life for patients receiving hemodialysis. Health workers should support rehabilitation and physical education programs to achieve the best results.
