Abstract

Self-harm is a rising concern among young adult women, particularly as it is often linked to an increased risk of suicide. This study aims to examine the patterns, motivations, and psychological impacts of self-harm behaviors within this demographic, focusing on the underlying emotional triggers and contextual factors. Using a qualitative approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with participants aged 18 to 25 years who had experienced self-harming behaviors. The method allowed for a detailed exploration of their personal experiences, revealing that self-harm frequently serves as a coping mechanism to manage intense emotional pain and a perceived lack of control over negative emotions. Participants often reported that self-harm provided temporary relief, though it sometimes led to feelings of regret and shame. Additionally, a significant portion of the participants expressed a tenuous connection between self-harm and suicidal ideation, highlighting a complex relationship between self-harm and mental health risks without a direct intent to commit suicide. This study underscores the need for targeted, empathetic interventions that address the emotional and psychological needs of young adult women struggling with self-harm, providing insights for mental health practitioners to develop tailored support strategies aimed at reducing self-harm and related mental health challenges in this population.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea occurs because the endometrium contains high amounts of prostaglandins which have an impact on the systemic response, which can affect various processes in the body, one of which is increasing the activity of the large intestine, causing symptoms of nausea, diarrhea, headaches, emotional changes and a burning sensation that accompanies pain during menstruation. The impacts that occur if dysmenorrhea is not treated are disruption of daily life activities, Retrograde menstruation (menstruation that moves backwards), infertility (sterility) and infection. In addition to the above impacts, emotional conflict, tension and anxiety can all play a role and cause feelings of discomfort and unfamiliarity. Tension usually worsens a bad situation at any time. A little discomfort quickly develops into a big problem with all the annoyance that accompanies it. Thus anxiety, feelings of unhappiness or even feelings of pressure are all not uncommon. Therefore, dysmenorrhea must be treated so that impacts such as the above do not occur. The nature and degree of this pain vary, from mild to severe. This research is quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent design with control group (two group pre test – post test). The population of all female students at SMA Nusantara Class I and II is 61 people, with a sample of 19 people taken using simple random sampling. The measuring tool for identifying dysmenorrhea uses a numerical pain scale. The treatment given is dysmenorrhea exercises with Traditional Kalimantan Music 3 times in a row a week before the female students menstruate, efore conducting the t-test, a normality test was conducted to determine whether the data was normally distributed or not. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used. The results obtained from the p-value normality test are 0.96, because the p value > 0.05 then the data is normally distributed. So the data for both groups are equally normally distributed. The mean pain scale before the intervention was given in the treatment group was 5.89 (moderate pain), in the control group it was 5.33 (moderate pain) while the mean pain scale after dysmenorrhea exercises in the treatment group was 2.33 (mild pain) and in the the control group was 5.0 (moderate pain). Statistical test analysis using the Independent T-test showed that the p-value was 0.006 < α=0.05, indicating that there was a significant influence of dysmenorrhea exercise on reducing dysmenorrhea in class I and II female students at SMA Nusantara Balikapapan. Doing dysmenorrhea exercises 3 times in a row a week before menstruation can reduce pain in female students. So it is necessary to encourage women who experience dysmenorrhea to do dysmenorrhea exercises with Traditional Kalimantan Music.

Abstract

Child sexual violence cases are still a serious problem and have long been a hot topic of discussion at the national and international levels. Children are more vulnerable to becoming victims of sexual violence because children generally lack knowledge so they do not understand the importance of protecting their body parts. The high number of cases of sexual violence against children shows the importance of educational media as a medium for preventing sexual violence against children. However, the problem is that in society sex education is still often considered taboo to talk about. Many parents misunderstand sex education so that sex education is often considered unnecessary to be taught to early childhood. Designing SESI (Sex Education) dolls as a medium for preventing sexual violence against preschool children. This study uses Research and Development (R&D). The sample that will be used for the feasibility test and product effectiveness test in this study are 3 media experts in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics, 3 material experts by Child Nursing Lecturers, and 10 Grantung Kindergarten students. Data collection methods using observation, interviews and questionnaires Product development and product feasibility testing are used to analyze data. According to the feasibility test, 3 material experts overall obtained an average score of 87.7 with recommendations of Very Good" and "Feasible", and 3 media experts obtained an average score of 85.1 including recommendations of "Very Good" and "Feasible" for field trials. The results of the product trial of 10 respondents consisting of 6 teachers and 4 guardians or parents showed an average score of 94.57. These results can be concluded that the majority of respondents gave the opinion of the SESI Doll (Sex Education) with the category "Very Good" both in terms of design and aesthetics that are attractive and child-friendly, safety and quality of materials are maintained and educational functions.

Abstract

The gold standard for malaria examination is microscopic examination. However, microscopic examination has many shortcomings, namely the difficulty of distinguishing between Plasmodium sp. species when mixed infections occur. Other malaria examinations for screening can be done with RDT. However, it also has shortcomings, namely the minimum number of parasites that can be detected is 100 parasites/ul. Molecular examination is the most sensitive and accurate examination in the diagnosis of malaria. The initial stage of molecular examination is the DNA isolation stage. This DNA isolation is very important in determining the success of molecular examination. Isolation of Plasmodium sp. DNA using blood smear samples is still rarely done and there is no standard procedure for isolating DNA from blood smears. The purpose of this study was to determine whether stored Giemsa blood smears can be used as samples in DNA isolation in malaria cases. The method used in isolation is using the Geneius™ Micro gDNA Kit. The results of the study were that stored Giemsa blood smear samples of Plasmodium vivax for 3 months could be isolated using the Geneius™ Micro gDNA Kit and could be used as DNA templates for amplification with target gene primers.

Abstract

The increase in the number of geriatrics leads to an increase in health problems, one of which is related to hypertension. Hypertension is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality that is often found in geriatrics. The class of drugs that are widely used to reduce blood pressure and have the potential to cause DRPs is the Calcium channel blocker (CCB) class of drugs, namely amlodipine. Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship of Drug related problems (DRPs) in the single dose category in the use of amlodipine drugs to the achievement of geriatric blood pressure targets. Method: This study is a descriptive study using a cross-sectional observational design that is analytic in nature. Sampling using purposive sampling technique. The data analysis used was univariate and bivariate analysis. Result: The results showed that 70% of patients were female, 40% were over 70 years old and 70% of patients had stage 2 hypertension. There was 1 patient who experienced drug related problems (DRPs) in the drug dosage category with the result that the blood pressure target was not achieved and 1 patient who received the right dose of amlodipine with the result that the blood pressure target was not achieved. Conclusion: From the results of the study it can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between Drug Related Problems (DRPs) in the category of amlodipine drug dosage with the achievement of geriatric blood pressure targets (p = 0.35).

Abstract

North Sumatra Province has the highest number of drug cases in Indonesia, with 2,049 cases until the first quarter of 2021. The dangers of drug abuse have spread to school-age children, based on the results of the 2021 BNN National Survey, there was an increase in drug exposure in the 15-24 year age group. The Community-Based Intervention (IBM) Program reflects the government's serious attention to efforts to deal with drug abuse in the community. Although since 2021 the North Sumatra BNNP has implemented the IBM program, the prevalence of drug abuse in North Sumatra Province is still high. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of 1) evaluating the effectiveness of the IBM program as a drug abuse prevention program. 2) to find out what are the inhibiting and supporting factors in implementing the IBM program . The research method used is a qualitative method that is evaluative in nature. Data collection uses three methods, namely observation, interviews and documentation. The selection of informants using the purposive sampling technique to be interviewed, namely the researcher selects informants who have the appropriate criteria to be interviewed. The theory used is the socialization theory by George Herbert Mead in analyzing and discussing the existing findings. The evaluation of the IBM program is expected to provide significant contributions to the literature on drug abuse prevention in the community and provide practical insights for Recovery Agents (AP), Practitioners, and BNN. The results of the study and discussion explain that 1) That the IBM program in the North Sumatra Province is quite effective, this is due to the maximum cooperation of the North Sumatra Province BNN with the community and Recovery Agents. 2 Internal barriers include lack of human resources, facilities, and program adjustments to the community. External barriers include social stigma, lack of family support, and environmental influences such as friends and drug dealers. Both of these factors hinder the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs.

Abstract

The disease pattern in Indonesia is currently shifting from infectious diseases to degenerative diseases. This pattern is accompanied by the problem of a double burden of disease. The incidence of degenerative diseases is increasing along with changes in lifestyle and environmental behavior. One of the threats of degenerative diseases to public health is diabetes mellitus. The prevalence of diabetes in people aged over 15 years increased from 10.9% in 2018 to 11.7% in 2023. This shows that this disease is not only a problem for the elderly but also affects the productive age group. The main causes include unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, and obesity. This study aims to observe and explore the behavior of people with diabetes in controlling blood glucose while suffering from diabetes. The research method used in this study is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach, with the informant selection technique using the snowball technique of 25 people. The main instrument of qualitative research is the researcher herself. The researcher is a nurse with a Masters in Nursing. The researcher as a facilitator also uses the tools used in the study as data collection instruments, namely the Digital Voice Recorder in this case the researcher's cellphone (Oppo A92) and interview guidelines and field notes and the researcher conducted in-depth interviews for approximately 3 weeks, data processing and data analysis using the Colaizzi method which consists of seven stages. Based on the results of in-depth interviews with 25 informants, 16 themes of the phenomenon of factors causing uncontrolled blood glucose were obtained, including incorrect knowledge about diabetes, the assumption that diabetes is a harmless disease, boredom factors in managing diet, poor behavior in daily eating habits, taking medication not according to the given dose, rarely or not doing sports activities, having an attitude that ignores the rules in following a diet while suffering from diabetes, information obtained from health workers and family is minimal, information from various media such as the internet is not utilized, limited health workers in providing education, feelings of hopelessness while suffering from diabetes mellitus, feeling that they do not get support from family or health workers in treating diabetes while suffering from diabetes mellitus, alternatives to drugs from the hospital are taking herbal medicines. The phenomenon of the dominant factors causing uncontrolled blood glucose is incorrect knowledge about diabetes, as well as the assumption that diabetes is a harmless disease, as well as boredom factors in regulating diet, and poor behavior in daily eating habits, as well as rarely or never doing sports activities, and having attitudes and behaviors that ignore the rules in undergoing treatment while suffering from diabetes.
