Aphorisme is a journal of Arabic Language, Literature, and Education. Its journal exists to accommodate contemporary issues related to Arabic Linguistics, Arabic Literature, and Arabic Learning written by lecturers, researchers, students, artists, writers, and practitioners in the fields of Arabic Language and Literature. The language focus published in this journal are Arabic, English, or Indonesian. This journal is published by the Study Program of Arabic Language Teaching Faculty of Tarbiyah INSURI twice a year (January-July). It has got both P-ISSN 2722-6786 and E-ISSN 2722-6794.

Abstract

This study aims to explore how the use of al-‘aṣā an-nāṭiqah contributes to improving students’ Arabic speaking skills by examining their responses during the learning process. This study used a descriptive qualitative method to focus on students of class XA MA Darut. Data were collected through classroom observation, structured interviews, and relevant documentation. The data analysis focused primarily on teacher interviews to evaluate the application and impact of this media. The collected data were analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion verification. Through this process, the researcher identified key themes, patterns, and insights related to implementing al-‘aṣā an-nāṭiqah in enhancing students’ speaking skills. The findings reveal that integrating al-‘aṣā an-nāṭiqah positively influences students’ interest and participation in speaking activities, thereby significantly improving their maharah kalam. This study highlights the value of using interactive and student-centered teaching tools to enhance Arabic speaking skills. Such approaches promote greater student engagement, motivation, and participation, essential in fostering communicative competence. The findings provide useful insights for educators aiming to improve speaking instruction through innovative media.

Abstract

This study explores the lexical and cultural challenges faced by novice translators in Arabic–Indonesian translation, a field that remains relatively underexplored despite its significant pedagogical relevance. The primary aim of this research is to identify common types of translation difficulties and to analyze the strategies employed by novice translators to address them. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected from 15 fifth-semester students of the Arabic Language Education Program at the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Kerinci, who were enrolled in a translation course. Data were gathered through translation tasks, reflective journals, and semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis was employed to identify recurring patterns of difficulties and strategies consistently observed during the translation process. The analysis revealed that major translation difficulties stemmed from the morphological complexity of Arabic, syntactic differences, semantic ambiguity, and cultural-linguistic gaps between Arabic and Indonesian. Three key patterns of difficulty were identified: misinterpretation of polysemous words, literal translation of idiomatic expressions, and loss of cultural meaning in context-bound terms. While most participants relied on literal translation and simplification strategies, they generally lacked adequate strategic awareness. Based on these findings, the study proposes a learner-centered contextual strategy model integrating explicit grammar instruction, contrastive Arabic–Indonesian analysis, and meaning-based scaffolding. This model is designed to support novice translators in producing more accurate, context-sensitive, and culturally appropriate translations. The study contributes to the pedagogical development of Arabic–Indonesian translation studies by highlighting learner needs and offering practical solutions relevant to the early stages of language acquisition.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of flash cards on the mastery of Arabic vocabulary among fifth-grade students at MI Raudlatul Mutaallimin Bangkalan. Using a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design, data were collected through observation, interviews, and tests. Data sources include teachers and students (primary data) and previous scores (secondary data). The population in this study consists of 26 students. Purposive sampling was chosen to determine the sample. Data analysis techniques used in this study include the Normality Test and the Paired Sample t-test. The study results showed a significant increase, with the average student score rising from 55.88 (pre-test) to 87.12 (post-test). The Paired Sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference before and after using the media. Thus, flashcards have proven effective in improving Arabic vocabulary mastery and are recommended as an engaging and enjoyable learning medium, particularly at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level.

Abstract

This study examines using TikTok as a learning medium by Arabic language teachers to improve Generation Z students' speaking skills (maharah kalam) at Al-Ikhlas Islamic School. The research subjects include Arabic language teachers and Generation Z students using TikTok. The population in this study was teachers and students at Madrasah Al-Ikhlas who were taking Arabic language classes. The sample was selected purposively, consisting of 1 Arabic teacher and 11 Generation Z students who actively use the TikTok app as a learning medium. This study adopts a qualitative approach using observation, interviews, and questionnaires, which were analyzed through thematic analysis. The results indicate that TikTok was chosen because it is engaging, easy to understand, and enhances student participation in the learning process. Teachers utilize short video content to present material more varied and less monotonously. Despite challenges such as limited internet access and device availability, using TikTok has proven to support more interactive Arabic language learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and explore the form of syntactic errors in the theses of PBA IAIN Kudus students in the first and current batches, in the form of syntactic error analysis, which is then evaluated and corrected. The subjects of this research are the theses of PBA IAIN Kudus students in the first batch and the current batch. The object of this research is sentences that contain elements of syntactic errors. The method used is a qualitative content analysis approach to errors in the theses of PBA IAIN Kudus students in the first and current batches, using 3 samples in each batch. To find and classify sentences that contain elements of syntactic errors, reading and recording techniques are used. The instrument used is the researcher herself. This study results in 6 syntax errors in the theses of PBA IAIN Kudus students in the first batch (2008) and 26 errors in the current batch (2019). The solutions offered are innovative teaching staff in Arabic language learning, seriousness and concentration in writing theses and taking Arabic language learning seriously.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the poem “رحلة جبلية، رحلة صعبة” by Fadwa Tuqan using Jacques Derrida's deconstruction approach within the framework of postmodern feminist theory. The data source in this research is the poem رحلة جبلية، رحلة صعبة  by Fadwa Tuqan. The data collection technique employed is a literature study, which involves gathering data from writings sourced from articles, academic journals, and other relevant texts supporting the research. The data analysis technique used is content analysis. The analysis results show that Tuqan successfully deconstructs the essentialist construction of female identity and represents the female subject as an active and dynamic agent. From a postmodern feminist perspective, this poem rejects a singular narrative of womanhood and affirms plurality, performativity, and symbolic resistance through poetic language. This study recommends the importance of employing contemporary critical theories such as deconstruction and postmodern feminism in reading modern Arabic literary texts, especially women’s writings, to uncover the political and transformative potential embedded within the aesthetics of language.

Abstract

This article provides an examination of the strategies, methods, and ideology employed in the translated book named "Al-Istisyrāq Wa Al-Mustasyriqūn Mā Lahum Wa Mā Alaihim" by Mushtafa As-Siba'iy. The research used a descriptive methodology, utilising qualitative data consisting of 30 words, phrases, and sentences extracted from the book “Attitudes of Orientalists towards Islam” by the book's translators, KH Em Nadjib Hassan and Ma'mun Bahri. Analysis applied a tripartite framework: (1) Translation strategies, (2) Translation methods, (3) Translation ideology. This study reveals that the analysis of translation strategies identified a total of 14 approaches: specifically, borrowing, calque, literal translation, amplification, reduction, compensation, discursive invention, common equivalence, particularization, linguistic compression, elision, addition, shift, and modulation. Additionally, examining translation methodologies yielded four distinct approaches: literal, adaptation, free, and communicative. The two ideologies under investigation are the philosophies of foreignization and domestication. The research concludes that translators predominantly adopt the ideology of domestication, utilizing appropriate approaches and methodologies, with 22 data points representing 73% of the findings.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Circle Discussion strategy in acquiring historical concepts among seventh-grade basic students. The researchers adopted an experimental approach with a two-group design (experimental and control groups). The study sample consisted of 57 seventh-grade female students from Soz Elementary School, distributed into two groups: the experimental group (32 students) who studied using the Circle Discussion strategy, and the control group (25 students) who studied using the conventional method. A historical concepts acquisition test consisting of 36 items was developed, distributed across three levels (definition, discrimination, and application). The results showed a statistically significant difference at the 0.05 level between the mean scores of the two groups in favor of the experimental group, where the experimental group's mean was (28.06) compared to (24.12) for the control group. The effect size calculation using eta squared showed a value of (0.206), indicating a very large effect of the strategy. The study concluded that the Circle Discussion strategy is effective in improving the acquisition of historical concepts among students.

Abstract

This research aimed to measure the effectiveness of a psychological program in enhancing physiological resilience represented by cortisol and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels among Syrian refugee abused women in Domiz camp in Duhok governorate. The researchers used a quasi-experimental design with a single group and pre-post measurements. The research sample consisted of (20) Syrian refugee abused women selected purposively. A psychological program consisting of (16) sessions distributed over seven weeks was applied, and cortisol and CRP levels in blood were measured before and after the program implementation. Results showed a statistically significant decrease in cortisol levels from (436.30) to (289.30) with a calculated t-value of (4.01), while no significant changes were observed in CRP levels. The researchers recommend implementing similar psychological programs with longer application periods to enhance the effect on inflammatory indicators.

Abstract

The aim of the current research is to examine the effectiveness of a cognitive-behavioral program in reducing cortisol levels among 12th-grade science stream female students. The researchers adopted the experimental method, as it is appropriate for the topic of the research. The study sample consisted of 60 female students from secondary schools in the Faida area, Dohuk Governorate. The sample was divided into two groups: an experimental group of 30 students who underwent the cognitive-behavioral program, and a control group of 30 students who did not receive any intervention during the implementation of the program. The participants were selected using a purposive sampling method. To achieve the research objective, the researchers formulated two main hypotheses: first, there is no statistically significant difference at the (0.05) level between the mean scores of cortisol level reduction in the experimental and control groups, and second, there is no statistically significant difference at the (0.05) level between the pre-test and post-test scores in reducing cortisol levels among the experimental group. The study relied on salivary cortisol measurements to assess psychological stress levels, and the cognitive-behavioral program was prepared by the researchers. The psychometric properties of the biological measurements (validity, reliability, measurement accuracy, result reliability) were established. The measurements were then applied, and data were collected and analyzed statistically using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The research concluded that there is a significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental and control groups in favor of the experimental group in reducing cortisol levels. The results also showed a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group in favor of the post-test in terms of reducing cortisol levels.
