Abstract

Abstract

The development of transportation modes is one of the keys to developing a region towards modernity. The development of modes of transportation always moves in line with technological developments in its time, making the emergence of transportation, whether land, sea or air, always a marker of progress and modernization of a country or region. In the city of Surabaya, the emergence of modern modes of transportation is a support for city mobilization which relies on the industrial and economic sectors. The city of Surabaya is developing because the economic sector is increasingly growing with the emergence of various forms of transportation that are driving the mobility of people and goods that connect the city of Surabaya with its supporting areas and other areas. The development of transportation in this city is also a sign of the increasingly advanced city of Surabaya from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, which was based on the applied technology and industrial sectors. Transportation advances are not only limited to supporting the economic sector, but are also used for administrative and military purposes in the city of Surabaya.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the dynamics of the division of Nagari Tapan. The study employs a historical research method, consisting of several stages: heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography, to analyze the development of Nagari Tapan. The findings show that the division was regulated by Government Regulation No. 09 of 2000 concerning the Basic Provisions for the Reorganization of Villages in West Sumatra into nagari administrations. The impact of this policy became evident in 1999 when Nagari Tapan was officially divided into the Basa Ampek Balai Tapan District with a single nagari administration. By 2012, the number of nagari administrations had grown to 20, along with two district governments. This division of nagari was part of an effort to establish new autonomy in Electoral District V (Dapil V), beginning with the division of nagari and districts. Following the division in 2012, significant changes occurred in Tapan, including: first, the growth of local democracy (politics); second, increased economic development; and third, the strengthening of social and cultural values.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to find out and understand the history of blasphemy in the mass media in Indonesia, especially regarding the case of blasphemy in the Monitor Tabloid starting from its background, public response to the case, to its resolution. The research method used is the historical research method. The historical research method is a research method consisting of four stages: heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. Based on the results of the research conducted, it can be known and understood that: the publication of the article "Ini Dia: 50 Tokoh yang Dikagumi Pembaca Kita" was not based on any intention except as entertainment. The intolerance and insensitivity of Arswendo Atmowiloto as the editor-in-chief of Monitor towards religion was caused by the lack of education about the sacred basic values of other religions (re: Islam). The public response in the form of anger and mass riots in responding to the case was inseparable from the influence of the New Order government's repression against religious people and the rampant issue of Christianization among the community at that time. As a result of his negligence, Monitor Tabloid's license was revoked, Arswendo was removed from all positions he held, and was brought to court on the basis of Article 156 A of the Criminal Code concerning Blasphemy and Its Elements with a sentence of 5 years in prison.

Abstract

This research investigates the diplomatic correspondence between the Acehnese Sultanate and the Ottoman Empire during the 16th century, shedding light on the transregional alliances that shaped geopolitical dynamics in Southeast Asia. The study employs a structured historical methodology, encompassing heuristics (data collection), verification (authentication of sources and authors), interpretation (critical analysis), and historiography (historical synthesis). The findings reveal a series of preserved letters in the Ottoman archives, documenting official communications during the reign of Sultan Alauddin al-Kahar of Aceh, notably, correspondence with Ottoman rulers Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and Sultan Selim II highlights Aceh’s strategic efforts to secure Ottoman support against Portuguese expansion in the Indian Ocean. Sultan Alauddin al-Kahar’s letters detail three primary requests: formally recognizing Aceh as an Ottoman vassal state, military assistance including cannon makers, naval vessels, and fortification materials, and the dispatch of military advisors and trainers. The records further confirm that the Ottoman Empire responded positively, demonstrating a willingness to assist Aceh, reflecting shared interests in countering Portuguese influence. This study contributes to a nuanced understanding of early modern diplomacy and the interconnected nature of political and military networks across the Indian Ocean, emphasizing the Ottoman Empire’s pivotal role in supporting regional powers like Aceh. Keywords: response, Acehnese, Ottoman, sultan.
