Abstract

K.H M. Hasyim Asy'ari is a scholar whose name is familiar in the archipelago. He is a scholar and at the same time a national hero because of his big role which was very influential in the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, progress and glory of the Islamic religion. The services he has rendered are enormous with great sacrifices. Among his great services was establishing the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School in Tebuireng (1899-1947). The establishment of this Islamic boarding school was one of the greatest achievements he had made. He founded the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School and began preaching for the benefit of the people. So what and what was his strategy in preaching to spread the religion of Islam? Therefore, this research was formulated and aims to find out how K.H Hasyim Asy'ari's preaching strategy was in spreading Islam in Tebuireng in 1899-1947. This research uses a historical research method which has four stages, namely heuristics, criticism, interpretation and historiography. The results of this research show that in preaching, K.H Hasyim Asy'ari used various strategies, such as building Islamic boarding schools, preaching bil kalam wa risaleh, establishing the Nadhatul Ulama (NU) organization, and Jihad Resolution. Apart from that, he also carried out special methods in preaching to fight for Indonesian independence. K.H Hasyim Asy'ari's achievements not only have an impact on the benefit of religion, but also have a big impact on maintaining the independence of the Republic of Indonesia to this day.

Abstract

This article discusses the background and objectives of the establishment of Adi Soemarmo Airport and the history of its establishment as a center for the departure and return of hajj pilgrims in Central Java Province and the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province. This study uses a historical method consisting of topic determination, heuristics, verification, interpretation and historiography. This paper uses primary and secondary sources in the form of archives, newspapers, books, journals and interviews. The results of the study indicate that Adi Soemarmo Airport was established in 1974 with the aim of being an alternative transportation connecting Surakarta-Jakarta. Another goal is to increase the socio-economic and historical cultural potential in the city of Surakarta and its surroundings. Adi Soemarmo Airport is an enclave civil airport built in a military air base area that has existed since the Dutch colonial era (1940). In 1997, this airport was designated as a center for the departure and return of Hajj pilgrims from Central Java and Yogyakarta. This airport was chosen because it has the most adequate (longest) runway so that it can accommodate the take-off and landing of large aircraft that are usually used to transport hajj pilgrims.

Abstract

This study examines the establishment and development of Hoogere Kweekschool in Purworejo between 1914 and 1930, emphasizing its role in shaping the educational landscape in colonial Indonesia. During the early 20th century, education in Indonesia remained inaccessible for the majority, with opportunities restricted to elite circles, primarily to fulfill colonial administrative needs. The founding of HKS marked a significant step in expanding access to advanced teacher training for local youth, aligning with the colonial government's Political Ethical Policy aimed at improving education for indigenous populations. HKS Purworejo, designed to train graduates of kweekschools into highly skilled teachers, offered advanced curricula including pedagogy, Dutch language, mathematics, and general sciences. Using historical research methods, this study explores primary and secondary sources to assess the institution's influence. Findings reveal that HKS Purworejo not only fulfilled colonial labor demands but also contributed significantly to the intellectual and social awakening of Indonesians, laying foundations for the post-independence education system. The study underscores the dual role of colonial education as both an instrument of exploitation and a pathway to empowerment.

Abstract

In the 1880s, H. Djamhari mixed tobacco and cloves to produce a product called klobot cigarettes. The cigarettes were then in great demand by the public so that demand from consumers increased rapidly. In 1906, Nitisemito was interested in adopting the business conducted by Djamhari so that in 1914, Nitisemito officially registered his cigarette brand under the name Tjap Tiga Bal and built a factory which was later named Kretek Cigaretten Fabriek M. Nitisemito Koedoes. The business carried out by Nitisemito experienced a very rapid increase, making many people interested in doing the same business. Not only indigenous people, non-indigenous people also made a business in the field of cigarettes as was done by Tjo Kang Hay who founded N.V. Trio. This research aims to find out how the development of the kudus kretek cigarette industry is seen through its historical perspective. After Indonesia gained sovereignty, the government tried to develop the economy by protecting indigenous entrepreneurs. These efforts have not been able to bear fruit due to inadequate human resources and competition with the cigarette industry from non-indigenous companies with large capital and foreign companies that began to enter Indonesia.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the factors underlying the use of the Aceh-type tombstone style on the tombs of the Sultans of Banten and to reconstruct the relationship between the Aceh Sultanate and the Banten Sultanate during the 16th-17th centuries from the existence of traces of the tombs of the Sultans of Banten using the Aceh-type tombstone style. The method used in this research is the archaeological method using typological analysis to study the shape and size, as well as the analysis of the decorative variety of the Aceh-type tombstones in the Tomb Complex of the Sultans of Banten. In addition, a comparative method is also used by comparing the Aceh tombstone style with the Aceh tombstone style used on the tombstones of the Sultans of Banten. This research uses a historical approach and is carried out in several stages, namely preparation and observation, data collection, data processing, data analysis, and interpretation. Based on the results of the study through literature studies and field studies, it can be concluded that the use of the Aceh tombstone style on the tombstones of the Sultans of Banten cannot be separated from the aspects of trade, Islamic preaching, and cultural contact. The tombstone, in addition to being a grave marker, is also a symbol that shows the position of the buried figure. Thus, the use of Aceh-type tombstones among the kings and clerics of Banten was probably motivated by the reason that the buried figure was a distinguished person in terms of social status. This was probably also aimed at increasing the prestige as well as an effort to legitimize the power of the Banten Sultanate as an Islamic sultanate considering that Samudera Pasai was the oldest Islamic kingdom that had ever triumphed in the archipelago.

Abstract

This research analyzes the resistance strategies of Raden Intan II against the Dutch during the period of 1850-1856 using historical research methods. The findings indicate that Raden Intan's resistance was driven by his ancestral belief regarding the Dutch as enemies to be fought, as well as his role as the leader of Kahuripan. This resistance was carried out through guerrilla tactics in response to the Dutch's superiority in weaponry. However, the success of this strategy was halted when Raden Ngarapat betrayed, revealing Raden Intan II's whereabouts, resulting in his death. The impact was felt by both parties; the Lampung community lost their resistance leader and suffered material losses, while the Dutch also lost personnel and assets due to the six-year-long resistance, requiring significant war funds.
