Abstract

In the history of Indonesian politics, the institutionalization of the presidential system has experienced ups and downs. The presidential system has had its own style and character under each regime. The main factor behind this relates to the varying nature of the political systems and patterns of leadership. Since the reformasi era and the amendment of the 1945 Constitution, however, the system has experienced a ‘purification’. During the period of president Habibie, the system was not implemented thoroughly, because of the transitional nature of the government. The embryo of a presidential system begun to emerge with the 1999 general election. The purification was marked by two fundamental changes. Firstly, there was the strengthening between the legislative and the executive. Secondly, there was the restriction of the period in which a president could only be elected for two periods. With these amendments, the opportunities open to an incumbent president during the reformasi era have been restricted by the law. The presidential term makes the periods for presidents and vice-presidents more fixed.DOI: 10.15408/sdi.v21i2.1041

Abstract

Among Muslims the term amar makruf nahi mungkar (promoting good and preventing vice) is frequently used as a kind of motto for lslamic dakwah. This term has been studied by a good number of Islamic scholars-both classical and contemporary including Ibn Taymiyah in his work amar makruf nahi mungkar. The Mu'tazilites interpreted it to fall within the category of al-Ushul al-Khamsah, (the five principles of belief). In fact, for the Mu'tazilites the doctrine of amar makruf nahi mungkar is held to be a part of faith, to the point that amar makruf nahi mungkar must be enforced when necessary. Because of this, theological groups in the past have resorted to acts of violence in carrying out their duty of amar makruf nahi mungkar, even though this is done only as a last resort when there are no other means.DOI: 10.15408/sdi.v14i2.550

Abstract

This paper sheds light on investigating the lexical cohesion on an Indonesian singer song entitled Coke Bottle by Agnez Mo. Lexical cohesion constitutes linguistic devices that help to create cohesiveness of the text. Lexical cohesion occurs when two words or more in a text are semantically related somehow – in other words, they are related in terms of their meaning. This study's design was a descriptive qualitative that attempted to elaborate the discourse analysis about lexical cohesion in Coke Bottle song by Agnez Mo. Some steps were conducted to collect the data, firstly, the lyrics that become the documentation were collected by the researcher from lyrics.com, secondly the researcher read the lyrics to understand the text. Thirdly, marking some words included as lexical cohesions in which they will be the real data of this study. The findings revealed that reiteration and collocation are found in the song, but the antonym that is part of reiteration is absent. Above all, repetition is the most commonly used in this song, especially the word I. This seems to indicate that the songwriter tried to make the song's lyrics match the music's beat, so the song became easy listening, and the listeners can enjoy the music.

Abstract

Islam teaches its people to maintain health and cleanliness in any case. One way is to perform Wudhu. Wudhu is a direct command from Allah SWT which is written in the Qur'an as a way of purification before praying. However, if we examine further the procedures for performing Wudhu in accordance with what was taught by the Prophet Muhammad, it turns out that it contains hidden benefits. This study used a literature review method by examining from the health side based on the results of previous studies. Discussing the benefits of Wudhu for health, factored in a person's physical condition. By doing Wudhutherapy, it turns out that it can reduce anxiety levels so that a sense of comfort and calm arises. Of course, this Wudhu therapy must be done properly so that the nerve points on the body are touched when Wudhuis performed. Wudhu also has other benefits that not many people know. Apart from doing Wudhu, it also has other benefits, namely it can create a sense of calm, reduce anxiety levels, changes in blood pressure and so on.

Abstract

The Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 36 of 2009 concerning Health stipulates the definition of health as a healthy condition, both physically, mentally, spiritually and socially that allows everyone to live socially and economically productive. Spiritual health can be in the form of a strong relationship with Allah (taqarrub ilallah), muraqabah, namely the belief that Allah always sees him and feels that Allah is always watching him, his willingness to share and provide benefits for others, strong worship, strong dhikr, and has a strong intention to carry out Allah’s law. In a healthy soul, will be born and a strong body will appear. If someone has a high sense of trust in God, has a very close relationship with God, is easy to receive guidance/guidance, has a very high sense of caring for others, then in this case a strong physique will also be born even though it is possible (physically) at first (considered) weak. Muraqabah is also defined as an earnest effort to live our life and mysticism in the best way through harmony between the content of the heart and appearance under the supervision of Allah SWT, by believing that Allah always sees all human conditions hear and know their words, their circumstances then determine their destiny, and always see the deeds they do and record them. Through murāqabah one watches over their heart (spiritual) and gains an understanding of the heart’s relationship with its creator and its environment.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe the use of Coherence in the thesis abstracts of the graduate program of the English Education Department of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The descriptive qualitative analysis was used as the methodological design of this research that attempted to describe the phenomenon of discourse analysis, especially about coherence in the abstracts of the graduate program of the English Education Department of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Some steps were conducted to collect the data, in which ten chosen abstracts were collected from the repository of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and analyzed to examine the types of Coherence proposed by Kehler (2002), the topical subject and the topical progression to see how they build coherence in the abstracts. This research shows that four out of eleven types of Coherence proposed by Kehler (2002) are used in twenty abstracts, including Parallel, Contrast, Generalization, and Explanation. Meanwhile, the topical subject shows mood as the dominant topical subject with a 91.74% percentage. In Addition, Sequential progression is a dominant Type of Topical Progression. Furthermore, Discourse Topic is hard to analyze because the abstracts only have one paragraph, so the discourse topic is analyzed based on the terms that frequently emerge to interpret the discourse topic. Finally, this study is expected to contribute to the development of language study, especially for Discourse Analysis, and it is also hoped to contribute to the education field, especially for university students, to improve the quality of English writing in abstracts of their research papers.

Abstract

The advancement of communication technology has sophisticated all aspects of human lives, including Islamic dakwah (preaching) activities, for Muslim communities in Indonesia. As a result, several Islamic organizations in Indonesia try hard to match this advancement by using digital media for their dakwah to reach larger audiences and youth media-savvy generation. This article, by focusing on three Islamic organizations in Indonesia (Nahdlatul Ulama known as NU, Muhammadiyah, and Al Washliyah), addresses the question of how their dakwah activities and strategies respond to advancement of communication technology on a social media platform, YouTube. This study employs digital etnography by collecting the data from YouTube accounts affiliated to the three organizations. By using content analysis for data interpretations, this article finds that each Islamic organization has its own characteristics of virtual dakwah activities and strategies. NU focuses on the teachings of ahlussunnah wal jamaah and religious tolerance, Muhammadiyah emphasizes charity and business, while Al Washliyah aims to strengthen the faith and morals of the society. In addition, their virtual dakwah activities are also in the context of countering transnational Islamic movements that utilize social media for their dakwah.

Abstract

This research investigates the diplomatic correspondence between the Acehnese Sultanate and the Ottoman Empire during the 16th century, shedding light on the transregional alliances that shaped geopolitical dynamics in Southeast Asia. The study employs a structured historical methodology, encompassing heuristics (data collection), verification (authentication of sources and authors), interpretation (critical analysis), and historiography (historical synthesis). The findings reveal a series of preserved letters in the Ottoman archives, documenting official communications during the reign of Sultan Alauddin al-Kahar of Aceh, notably, correspondence with Ottoman rulers Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and Sultan Selim II highlights Aceh’s strategic efforts to secure Ottoman support against Portuguese expansion in the Indian Ocean. Sultan Alauddin al-Kahar’s letters detail three primary requests: formally recognizing Aceh as an Ottoman vassal state, military assistance including cannon makers, naval vessels, and fortification materials, and the dispatch of military advisors and trainers. The records further confirm that the Ottoman Empire responded positively, demonstrating a willingness to assist Aceh, reflecting shared interests in countering Portuguese influence. This study contributes to a nuanced understanding of early modern diplomacy and the interconnected nature of political and military networks across the Indian Ocean, emphasizing the Ottoman Empire’s pivotal role in supporting regional powers like Aceh. Keywords: response, Acehnese, Ottoman, sultan.
