Abstract

This study delves into "Syamarih fi ilmi Tarikh" by Jalaluddin al-Sayuti, an exploratory work on historical methodologies. The objective is to illuminate the essence of historical study through al-Sayuti's lens, highlighting the importance of understanding history as a discipline. Despite its profound contributions to historical discourse, al-Sayuti's text remains underexplored among scholars, signaling a gap in academic discussions on historical conceptualizations. Utilizing content analysis, this research uncovers al-Sayuti's motives and his unique approach to presenting history. Our findings indicate that al-Sayuti perceives 'tarikh' (history) as inherently linked to temporal dynamics, incorporating aspects of chronological, cyclical, and natural times. This conceptualization is closely tied to Islamic principles, suggesting that his interpretation serves not only as an academic endeavor but also as a reflection of Islamic civilization's understanding of time. Al-Sayuti's work, thus, provides insightful perspectives on the interplay between time and history, emphasizing the significance of temporal frameworks in shaping historical narratives. The conclusion underscores al-Sayuti's contribution to historical thought, offering a nuanced view that enriches our comprehension of history as both a subject and a methodology. This research affirms the critical need to further investigate such foundational texts to enhance our grasp of historical sciences.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine the dynamics of the division of Nagari Tapan. The study employs a historical research method, consisting of several stages: heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography, to analyze the development of Nagari Tapan. The findings show that the division was regulated by Government Regulation No. 09 of 2000 concerning the Basic Provisions for the Reorganization of Villages in West Sumatra into nagari administrations. The impact of this policy became evident in 1999 when Nagari Tapan was officially divided into the Basa Ampek Balai Tapan District with a single nagari administration. By 2012, the number of nagari administrations had grown to 20, along with two district governments. This division of nagari was part of an effort to establish new autonomy in Electoral District V (Dapil V), beginning with the division of nagari and districts. Following the division in 2012, significant changes occurred in Tapan, including: first, the growth of local democracy (politics); second, increased economic development; and third, the strengthening of social and cultural values.

Abstract

This study aims to find out and understand the history of blasphemy in the mass media in Indonesia, especially regarding the case of blasphemy in the Monitor Tabloid starting from its background, public response to the case, to its resolution. The research method used is the historical research method. The historical research method is a research method consisting of four stages: heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. Based on the results of the research conducted, it can be known and understood that: the publication of the article "Ini Dia: 50 Tokoh yang Dikagumi Pembaca Kita" was not based on any intention except as entertainment. The intolerance and insensitivity of Arswendo Atmowiloto as the editor-in-chief of Monitor towards religion was caused by the lack of education about the sacred basic values of other religions (re: Islam). The public response in the form of anger and mass riots in responding to the case was inseparable from the influence of the New Order government's repression against religious people and the rampant issue of Christianization among the community at that time. As a result of his negligence, Monitor Tabloid's license was revoked, Arswendo was removed from all positions he held, and was brought to court on the basis of Article 156 A of the Criminal Code concerning Blasphemy and Its Elements with a sentence of 5 years in prison.

Abstract

This article discusses the background and objectives of the establishment of Adi Soemarmo Airport and the history of its establishment as a center for the departure and return of hajj pilgrims in Central Java Province and the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province. This study uses a historical method consisting of topic determination, heuristics, verification, interpretation and historiography. This paper uses primary and secondary sources in the form of archives, newspapers, books, journals and interviews. The results of the study indicate that Adi Soemarmo Airport was established in 1974 with the aim of being an alternative transportation connecting Surakarta-Jakarta. Another goal is to increase the socio-economic and historical cultural potential in the city of Surakarta and its surroundings. Adi Soemarmo Airport is an enclave civil airport built in a military air base area that has existed since the Dutch colonial era (1940). In 1997, this airport was designated as a center for the departure and return of Hajj pilgrims from Central Java and Yogyakarta. This airport was chosen because it has the most adequate (longest) runway so that it can accommodate the take-off and landing of large aircraft that are usually used to transport hajj pilgrims.

Abstract

This study examines the establishment and development of Hoogere Kweekschool in Purworejo between 1914 and 1930, emphasizing its role in shaping the educational landscape in colonial Indonesia. During the early 20th century, education in Indonesia remained inaccessible for the majority, with opportunities restricted to elite circles, primarily to fulfill colonial administrative needs. The founding of HKS marked a significant step in expanding access to advanced teacher training for local youth, aligning with the colonial government's Political Ethical Policy aimed at improving education for indigenous populations. HKS Purworejo, designed to train graduates of kweekschools into highly skilled teachers, offered advanced curricula including pedagogy, Dutch language, mathematics, and general sciences. Using historical research methods, this study explores primary and secondary sources to assess the institution's influence. Findings reveal that HKS Purworejo not only fulfilled colonial labor demands but also contributed significantly to the intellectual and social awakening of Indonesians, laying foundations for the post-independence education system. The study underscores the dual role of colonial education as both an instrument of exploitation and a pathway to empowerment.

Abstract

This research investigates the diplomatic correspondence between the Acehnese Sultanate and the Ottoman Empire during the 16th century, shedding light on the transregional alliances that shaped geopolitical dynamics in Southeast Asia. The study employs a structured historical methodology, encompassing heuristics (data collection), verification (authentication of sources and authors), interpretation (critical analysis), and historiography (historical synthesis). The findings reveal a series of preserved letters in the Ottoman archives, documenting official communications during the reign of Sultan Alauddin al-Kahar of Aceh, notably, correspondence with Ottoman rulers Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and Sultan Selim II highlights Aceh’s strategic efforts to secure Ottoman support against Portuguese expansion in the Indian Ocean. Sultan Alauddin al-Kahar’s letters detail three primary requests: formally recognizing Aceh as an Ottoman vassal state, military assistance including cannon makers, naval vessels, and fortification materials, and the dispatch of military advisors and trainers. The records further confirm that the Ottoman Empire responded positively, demonstrating a willingness to assist Aceh, reflecting shared interests in countering Portuguese influence. This study contributes to a nuanced understanding of early modern diplomacy and the interconnected nature of political and military networks across the Indian Ocean, emphasizing the Ottoman Empire’s pivotal role in supporting regional powers like Aceh. Keywords: response, Acehnese, Ottoman, sultan.
