Bali Anatomy Journal is published semiannualy by Department of Anatomy, Medical Faculty, Universitas Udayana , Bali as well as supports the anatomical development, both local and abroad. We welcome enthusiastic readers, researchers, scientists, and stakeholders to deliver scientific thoughts into this journal. Of course, the presence of the Bali Anatomy Journal can be a scientific pool and accommodate the spirit of both scientific research and publications from among students, biomedical, lecturers, and even clinicians. Reflecting on the lack of anatomical research since last decade, we appear to strengthen the basic science of anatomy still exist and valuable.

Abstract

Background: Estrogen has major role to control LDL levels in woman’s body, therefore if a woman experienced hypoestrogen condition usually during menopause phase, there is an increase of the LDL levels. Anthocyanin has similar structure with isoflavones, which have been widely studied and proven to be estrogenic. One of the food ingredients that is rich in anthocyanin is the peel of red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus), so it is hoped that this red dragon fruit peels can be a source of phytoestrogens that can play a role in improving LDL levels in menopausal women. Aim: To determine the effect of red dragon fruit peel (Hylocereus polyrhizus) on Low Density Lipoprotein levels in menopause wistar rats. Method: This study was a purely experimental study with a randomized post-test only control group design with a sample of 27 female wistar rats that had fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study sample was divided into 3 (three) groups with each group consisting of 9 female wistar rats, namely the control group (P0), the ethanol extract of red dragon fruit peels at a dose of 60mg / 200grBB group (P1), and dose 90mg / 200grBB group (P2).Result: There was a significant difference between P0 and P1 so that between P0 and P2, meanwhile comparison between P1 and P2 showed only slight difference. Conclusion: The red dragon peel extract can control LDL levels, therefore it is possible to be a substitute of estrogen endogen in menopausal women.

Abstract

Background: Pronated foot posture to over pronated foot posture are an indication of the incidence of genu valgum which is a deformity of the lower limbs where the soles of the feet are pronated and far from each other while the knees are in a close position until they are attached. Children at the age of three to eight years will experience genu valgum physiologically. Aim: The purpose of this study was to find out the general description and to prove the correlation between foot posture and the incidence of genu valgum in elementary schools children throughout Denpasar. Methods: This study was an analytic observation method with cross-sectional study design with total sample was 77 participants and used simple random sampling method. This study was conducted from January to February 2020 at 18th Pemecutan Elementary School, 26th Dangin Puri Elementary School, 9th Sesetan Elementary School, and 10th Dauh Puri Elementary School. Results: The results showed out of 77 samples analyzed, concluded 45 (58.4%) male and 32 (41.6%) female participants. There were 37 (48.1%) participants indicated genu valgum and 40 (51.9%) participants with normal foot. Total were 36 participants indicated with pronated foot posture and 41 participants with normal foot posture. Based on the Mann-Whitney U test results obtained p value of the left and right foot posture of <0.001 which means there is a correlation between the left and right foot with incidence of genu valgum. Conclusion: This study concluded that there is a correlation between foot posture and the incidence of genu valgum in elementary schools children throughout Denpasar.

Abstract

Background: Migraine is closely related to physical and biopsychosocial problems on human. The increasing number of migraine cases can affect the quality of life and increasing financial burden. Aim: The study aims to simply review the presentation of TNF- α and IL-1 in migraine mechanisms as well as the perspective of their future agenda. Review: The characteristics of migraine symptoms include unilateral and pulsating headaches precede by fatigue, irritability, decrease of concentration, and daytime sleepiness. Vascular and neurovascular theory are previous theory about the pathophysiology of migraine. Recent knowledge state that cortical spreading depression is the underlying mechanism of the aura and migraine. Other literatures showed that neurogenic inflammation also play a role in migraine particularly mast cells. Mast cells degranulate pro-inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α and IL-1, chemokines, and other substances. The involvement of TNF-α and IL-1 in migraine will be discussed in this review.

Abstract

Background: Selemadeg Public Health Center (PHC) had reported, in 2018, hypertension is still included as the top 10 diseases within its community care area. The last registration data showed that mostly hypertension cases was still related to productive age population. Aims: This study aims to assess the incidence of hypertension in preventing the risk factors of hypertension. Method: This research was conducted at Selemadeg PHC, Tabanan in the period of time between February-March 2020, using a descriptive study form with a consecutive sampling technique. Results: It indicated that 33.3% from all patients had experienced hypertension. Based on gender, more in female respondents, on the rate of 41.7%. Based on the family history, it was found that 50.0% of them have had a family history of hypertension. Based on the obesity status, 55.6% with a BMI> 25. Based on high salt consumption was found 50.0% and based on low physical activity was 37,9% on smoking habits 44.4% indicated that the patient was a smoker. Conclusion: The proportion of hypertension involved productive age patients as well as it was found more in the female gender group, with a family history of hypertension, high salt consumption, smokers, obesity and has a low physical activity pattern.

Abstract

Background: Genetically, peripheral precocious puberty can be caused by congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). Radiological examination is used for etiology findings and diagnostics. Peripheral precocious puberty of CAH generally affects girls with genitalia disambiguate, less common in boys. Incidence is I in 15.000 to 20.000 children with a female to male ratio of about 20:1. Case Report: A 5-year-old boy with voice change and hair growth in his penis. An immunoserology, endocrinology, electrolyte laboratory examination had been performed. Besides, some radiological tests of diagnostic bone age, upper abdominal ultrasound, and testicular ultrasound had been determined as confirmation of laboratory findings that support peripheral precocious puberty. In this case, an examination of human skeletal maturity was obtained according to the age of 14. Ultrasound examination showed adrenal enlargement with a size of 4 x 0.6 cm with a V-shaped and cribriform appearance. No testicular was found in the scrotum or the inguinal canal. Both 17-hydroxyprogesterone and testosterone level was increased subsequently. Conclusion: Bone age examination is needed to determine skeletal maturity. An ultrasound can be used to determine both etiology and concomitant abnormalities of the genital system. However, ultrasound can not detect the location of the testicle intraperitoneally. MRI examination is an imaging technique that is recommended if no testicles are found in the scrotum or inguinal.

Abstract

Background: The most recent finding in interventional cardiology is "more distal radial accesses." The success rate of this access reached 97,7%. Variation in lumen diameter at the puncture site can be a contributing factor to access failure. However, this variation has not been well recorded due to the absence of studies regarding it. Aim: To determine the variation of the lumen diameter of the distal radial artery in the anatomical snuffbox. Methods: This study was an observational study on 13 cadavers with a total of 25 hands. Dissection of the cadaver was done by the anatomical dissection method, and the lumen diameter was measured. Results: Descriptive measurement showed significant variation in lumen diameter of the distal radial artery. Conclusion: There is medium to very high variation in lumen diameter based on hand side, gender, and both.
