Abstract

Long-acting reversible conceptions (LARCs) can be a solution to reduce poverty, unemployment and maternal mortality. The interest of couples of childbearing age in using LARC is still low. The low use of LARCs has resulted in the unmet need for family planning which caused by multiple factors. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between education level and knowledge of couples of childbearing age (CCA) about long-term contraceptive methods (LARCs) in Gupakwarak Hamlet, Sendangsari. This research is an analytic observational study using a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling with 134 respondents. The results showed that there is no significant relationship between education level and knowledge of fertile couples about LARC (p-value 0.109) in Gupakwarak Hamlet, Sendangsari. Knowledge is not only obtained through formal education but also from informal education such as counseling, actively seeking information on social media, antenatal classes, working environment, and/or counseling about LARC in Posyandu. It is recommended that midwives continue to provide counseling regarding LARC to pregnant women to provide consolidation regarding understanding of LARC, prevent misinformation, and help determine the right method for them.

Abstract

The morbidity and mortality rates of children can indicate the health status of a country. Immunization is one of the programs suggested to improve health status. The success of these programs can be observed by the achievement of UCI (Universal Child Immunization) from the coverage of complete essential immunization. The rejection of vaccination from families is one of the most common reasons why children don't receive complete immunization. Other reasons include busy schedules, remote locations, and frequent illnesses. These factors influence parents to reject or receive particular immunization programs or vaccines, including support factors from the family. The support from family can come in various forms such as providing motivation, offering guidance, or monitoring daily intake of food and medication. This study determines the relationship between family support and the completeness of essential immunization in infants and toddlers. The type of research used is descriptive research with a quantitative approach method and cross-sectional design. The technique used in this research is purposive sampling. The results showed that there is a relationship between family support and the completeness of essential immunization for infants and toddlers. Health workers are recommended to actively involve families by increasing their knowledge about the importance of complete immunization.

Abstract

Nutrition is a crucial element in food that plays a vital role in ensuring an individual's growth and development. Malnutrition is a common nutritional problem that affects children below the age of five. It occurs when the body lacks or has an imbalance of vital nutrients necessary for growth, cognitive development, and overall well-being. The preliminary study conducted at the Teratak Village Community Health Center found that some toddlers had a body weight that was below the recommended weight according to the age indicator in the KMS. The study had a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-and-post-test approach. A total of 20 toddlers aged between 24 to 60 months who were below the yellow line (BGK) and the red line (BGM) on the KMS graph were sampled during the weighing period between October 2022 – March 2023. The paired sample t-test method was used to analyze the changes in body weight. The study found that 16 toddlers experienced weight gain while two others did not show any increase in weight after the intervention. The statistical test resulted in a p-value of 0.000 (< α = 0.05), demonstrating that providing Moringa leaf tofu nuggets had a significant effect on the weight gain of toddlers. Providing additional food with tofu nuggets and Moringa leaves can increase toddlers' weight, with 50 grams of nuggets containing an additional protein intake of 5.65 grams.

Abstract

According to WHO (2020) around 10% of pregnant women experience depression and this condition is higher in developing countries, reaching 15.6% during pregnancy and 19.8% after childbirth. Anxiety experienced during pregnancy can have negative consequences for both the mother and the fetus. This unfavorable impact is not only during pregnancy but can also affect the process of childbirth and lactation. There are various kinds of exercise to reduce anxiety, one of which is gymnastics. One type of exercise that is effective for reducing anxiety is tera exercise. Terra gymnastics is a breathing exercise combined with movement and adopted from Tai Chi exercises. All movements in tera exercise can reduce anxiety, stress, and reduce levels of depression. Currently researchers are doing it on pregnant women aiming to control the level of anxiety facing the birth process using movements that are safe for pregnant women, especially breathing technique exercises. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of tera exercise on reducing the anxiety level of pregnant women facing childbirth. The research method used is a true experiment with a pretest-posttest approach without a control group design. The research respondents used a purposive sampling technique by means of random sampling, totaling 30 pregnant women as respondents in the working area of the Batujajar Health Center. Data analysis using univariate and bivariate with Marginal homogeneity test. The results showed that of the 30 respondents before the intervention, there were 27 people (90%) who had moderate anxiety levels and 3 people (10%) had severe anxiety levels. After being given the intervention, 16 people (53.3%) had no symptoms, 12 people (40.0%) had moderate anxiety and 2 people (6.7%) had moderate anxiety, and none of them had severe anxiety (0%). Bivariate analysis obtained the results of p value = 0.000 <0.05, Ho was rejected, it was concluded that there was an effect of intervention on anxiety levels.

Abstract

Mothers in the postpartum phase need to adapt to the psychological changes that occur after childbirth. The phase of adaptation, called letting go is crucial for mothers to be able to embrace their new role. Failure to adapt to these psychological changes can lead to disorders such as depression, which can occur in 3.5% to 63.3% of cases. To address this issue, a study was conducted to analyze the effectiveness of online classes for expectant mothers in achieving psychological adaptation (letting go) during the postpartum period. The research was designed as a quasi-experimental study. The sample population consisted of all third-trimester primigravida pregnant mothers in Paiton Village, Probolinggo, totaling 30 mothers. The research sampling technique was total sampling. The data was analyzed using the chi-square statistical test (α=0.05). The results showed that 50% of the 30 respondents who were given an online class for prospective mothers were able to achieve psychological adaptation of letting go within 10 days. The analysis showed that the online class for prospective mothers had a significant effect on the timing of achieving psychological adaptation with p value <0.05. The study concluded that online classes for expectant mothers can be effective in helping mothers adapt to their new role more quickly. This research contributes to knowledge enhancement techniques for postpartum mothers in dealing with psychological adaptation.

Abstract

Anaemia, a common condition during pregnancy, has been found to be associated with various factors such as physiological changes occurring during pregnancy, gestational fetal age and medical history of the pregnant woman. The current study was conducted to investigate the potential impact of consuming dates on the elevation of haemoglobin levels in pregnant women undergoing treatment at the Barokah Pajang Clinic. Employing an experimental design with pretest and posttest measurements using a control group, the study followed a quantitative approach. The sample collection method used was non-probability sampling, specifically sequential sample collection. The collected data was analyzed using the independent sample t-test, which revealed that pregnant women with anaemia who consumed dates experienced a statistically significant increase in haemoglobin levels at the Barokah Pajang Clinic. The findings suggest that taking iron supplements and consuming seven dates on an empty stomach for a week can help improve haemoglobin levels among pregnant women with anaemia. The P-value of 0.049 indicates the statistical significance of the results. This study highlights the potential benefits of a dietary intervention for pregnant women with anaemia, and it is recommended that they follow this regimen to ensure healthy pregnancies.

Abstract

Breastfeeding is a crucial process that requires adequate milk production to ensure the baby's health and growth. However, mothers may face difficulty in breastfeeding after giving birth due to insufficient milk production. To address this problem, intervention can be done through a combination of acupressure techniques and aromatherapy using essential fennel oil. This approach has been proven effective in increasing breast milk production and making the process smoother for the mother. The study aimed to determine the effect of acupressure and fennel oil aromatherapy in increasing breast milk volume. The research design was a quasi-experiment with a pretest and posttest group design. The study involved 30 breastfeeding mothers who met the inclusion criteria and were divided into two groups using purposive sampling. The results showed that there was a significant increase in breast milk production after providing acupressure techniques and fennel oil aromatherapy. The acupressure technique helped release oxytocin, which is essential in increasing breast milk production. Moreover, providing fennel oil aromatherapy during the acupressure process can help the mother become more relaxed and increase breast milk production. Therefore, we recommend that midwives use acupressure techniques and fennel oil aromatherapy as complementary therapies to help increase breast milk production and ensure a healthy breastfeeding experience for mothers and their babies.

Abstract

Acute respiratory infections are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality due to infectious diseases worldwide. Nearly 4 million people die from acute respiratory infections each year, 98% of which are caused by lower respiratory infections. ARI cases are a concern because they can have serious impacts on the health and development of young children. Although the Pagar Alam City Health Center has made various efforts in prevention and treatment, such as immunization and health education, many ARI cases are still not properly addressed. This indicates the need for a deeper understanding of the factors related to the incidence of ARI in young children in the health center environment. The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between immunization status, maternal knowledge, and household occupancy density together with the incidence of ARI in young children at the Gunung Dempo Health Center in Pagar Alam City in 2023. The growth of acute respiratory infection cases in South Sumatra Province over the last three years has been significant, as seen in the data: 25,366 cases in 2020, 32,336 cases in 2021, and 519,167 cases in 2022. The method used is cross-sectional with independent data collection to find the relationship between ARI-related factors. The study results show an influence between maternal knowledge and the incidence of ARI, with an odds ratio of 11.66. This indicates that maternal knowledge affects the incidence of ARI, with a Chi-Square p-value result (0.000 < 0.050). ARI incidence is higher in children with incomplete immunization status at 26.7%, and in households with poor occupancy density at 25.8%. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that maternal knowledge, immunization status, and occupancy density are related to the occurrence of ARI cases in young children..

Abstract

Back pain is a frequent and often debilitating symptom experienced by pregnant women during their third trimester. As the fetus grows and the woman's center of gravity shifts forward, the strain on the lower back can increase significantly. This can lead to discomfort, pain, and limited mobility. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of Balasana (child pose) in alleviating back pain for pregnant women in Kediri Community Health Center 1. Thirty pregnant women experiencing back pain participated in the study. A one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, with pain levels assessed using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). Participants performed Balasana as an intervention, followed by a post-intervention pain assessment. The results of the Wilcoxon signed-rank test revealed a significant reduction in back pain levels following the intervention (p = 0.000 < α = 0.05). This suggests that Balasana is an effective strategy for managing back pain in pregnant women. The findings of this study highlight the potential benefits of yoga and mindfulness practices in addressing pregnancy-related discomforts. It is recommended that pregnant women explore various relaxation techniques, including Balasana, to alleviate back pain and promote overall well-being during pregnancy. Balasana has demonstrated effectiveness in reducing back pain among pregnant women. This study underscores the importance of incorporating relaxation techniques into prenatal care to improve the overall comfort and well-being of pregnant individuals.

Abstract

Anemia, a prevalent health condition among adolescents, can significantly impair cognitive function and academic performance. Iron deficiency, a primary cause of anemia in young females, arises from insufficient intake of iron, vitamin B12, and folic acid, essential for erythropoiesis. The reduction in hemoglobin levels associated with iron deficiency leads to diminished oxygen delivery to tissues, compromising cellular metabolism and cognitive development. Consequently, individuals with anemia may exhibit decreased work productivity and difficulty concentrating. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between anemia and academic achievement among female students at Baitul Hikmah Tempurejo Vocational School. A cross-sectional correlational design was employed, with a population of 43 Class XII female students. Simple random sampling was used to select 39 participants using the Slovin formula. Data analysis was conducted using the chi-square test. Findings revealed that 61.5% of the female students were anemic, while 38.5% were not. Additionally, 66.7% of the students failed to meet academic standards, compared to 33.3% who passed. Statistical analysis using the chi-square test indicated a weak correlation between anemia and learning achievement (p = 0.005). The study suggests a minimal association between anemia and academic performance among female students at Baitul Hikmah Tempurejo Vocational School. It is recommended that these students enhance their understanding of the potential impact of anemia on their studies.
