Abstract

Undernutrition significantly impacts child development in Indonesia, with a prevalence of 17.1% among toddlers. Malnutrition in early childhood has severe consequences, including increased mortality, higher healthcare costs, and impaired cognitive development. This study investigates the potential of nutrient-rich mung bean porridge to improve weight gain in malnourished toddlers, addressing a critical public health challenge. Recognizing the crucial role of nutrition in early childhood, this study investigates the potential of mung bean porridge as a nutritional intervention to improve weight gain in malnourished toddlers receiving treatment at PT. Sumur Pandanwangi Clinic. Mung beans are a rich source of essential nutrients, including carbohydrates and protein, making them a promising candidate for addressing nutritional deficiencies in this vulnerable population. This study aimed to determine the effect of mung bean porridge on weight gain in malnourished toddlers treated at PT. Sumur Pandanwangi Clinic using a pre-experimental framework with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. A total of 20 research participants were selected using Consecutive Sampling. Weight measurements were obtained using a digital scale, and observations were recorded on standardized sheets. The data collected were analyzed using the Paired-t Test. The study found that the average weight of toddlers before receiving green bean porridge was 10,955 grams. After consuming the green bean porridge, their weight increased to 11,080 grams, marking an increase of 125 grams. Subsequent analysis demonstrated a significant effect of the green bean porridge on weight gain among malnourished toddlers. The findings yielded a p-value of 0.001, which is statistically significant as it falls below the threshold of 0.05. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of mung bean porridge in improving weight gain in malnourished toddlers. The significant weight increase observed among participants provides strong evidence for its use as a cost-effective and locally available nutritional intervention to address undernutrition in Indonesia.

Abstract

One indicator of declining population development in Indonesia is the decline in the number of unmet needs. The proportion of women who do not currently use any kind of contraception and do not wish to have more children or postpone getting pregnant is known as unmet need. In Indonesia, there was an increase of 9.1% in 2016 and the incidence of unmet needs was 8.5 percent in 2017. This The goal of the study is to determine the variables that affect PUS's unmet family planning needs. The method used is a literature review study which includes a systematic search study of computerized databases: Scopus, ProQuest, PubMed, Garuda, Science Direct, and Google Scholar in the form of research articles totaling 11 articles published from 2019-2022, full text, speak Indonesian and English in accordance with the inclusion criteria. Article searches used the keywords "unmet need", "contracepcion", "unmet need factors", "unmet need for contraception", "family planning", "unmet need factors in mothers who are not family planning acceptors". The results of the study show that the factors that influence the unmet need for family planning in PUS are: Knowledge (p value= 0.033), age (p value = 0.077), employment (p value= 0.004), education (p value= 0.004), history of family planning (p value= 0.00), parity (p value= 0.01), place of residence (p value= 0.01), husband's support (p value= 0.03). Factors that influence unmet need for EFA are knowledge, age, employment, education, history of family planning, parity, place of residence, and husband's support. . Health workers are expected to work together with KB cadres and Village PLKB to disseminate in-depth information about the KB program so that it can reduce cases of unmet need. Fertile couples who have not used KB are expected to seek information through existing health workers.

Abstract

Postpartum fatigue can be addressed through pharmacological and non-pharmacological/traditional approaches. One common non-pharmacological intervention is light physical exercise such as swimming, aerobics, yoga, cycling, and massage. Massage is a form of traditional medicine that has been passed down through generations and is believed to have health benefits, including improving sleep quality and body relaxation. Massage with the right technique is believed to improve overall health. In its implementation, massage often uses lotions, oils, or balms as lubricants to facilitate movement. Clove oil, extracted from the Syzygium aromaticum plant native to Maluku, Indonesia, has analgesic properties that have been shown to relieve postpartum musculoskeletal pain. Furthermore, the aroma produced by clove oil has the potential to provide a relaxing effect and reduce stress levels in mothers. This research aims to develop a clove oil-based lotion formulation that will be used in massage practice. The research design used is a clinical trial consisting of several stages. These stages include obtaining ethical approval, permits from Kesbangpol (Ministry of Home Affairs), laboratory permits, and finally the lotion formulation process. The evaluation of the clove oil lotion preparation formula D for postpartum massage involved testing viscosity, pH, organoleptic properties, homogeneity, spreadability, and adhesion. The results showed that the lotion was white in color with a distinctive clove aroma, had a viscosity of 5620 cps which was in accordance with standards, a pH of 5.96 which met SNI standards, a good spreadability value of 6.9 cm, and a very good adhesion value of 4.37 seconds. The sensitivity test also showed negative results, which means the lotion did not cause irritation. Based on these test results, it can be concluded that the clove oil lotion preparation formula D was successfully formulated after four trials.

Abstract

Early initiation of breastfeeding (EIBF) is crucial for exclusive breastfeeding success and has many benefits for mothers, babies, and families. Moreover, EIBF also contributes to building the quality of the next generation. This study aims to investigate the factors that determine the implementation of EIBF and its effect on exclusive breastfeeding during the postpartum period. The research used an observational analytic approach with a prospective cohort design on all mothers who gave birth in health facilities in the Beru-beru Health Center working area, West Sulawesi Province in 2021. The research sample included mothers who gave birth in the same area, and were willing to participate as respondents and living in the location. The results of the Chi-Square test analysis showed that the start time and duration of EIBF implementation affected exclusive postpartum breastfeeding, with respective p-values of less than 0.001 and 0.001. This research highlights the importance of implementing EIBF by initiating immediate breastfeeding within five minutes after the baby is born and continuing it for at least one hour. Both the start time and duration of EIBF complement each other in achieving successful postpartum exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Pregnancy-related psychological changes might lead to sleep difficulties. Sleep disturbances are common among pregnant women in Indonesia, accounting for approximately 64% of the cases. Hatha yoga can help pregnant women overcome their sleep difficulties. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of hatha yoga on the sleep quality of the third trimester of pregnant women. The research design used Quasy Experimental with non-equivalent control groups. Purposive sampling was used to identify 44 pregnant women in their third trimester, with 24 in the intervention group and 24 in the control group. Data collection used the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire, data analysis consisted of descriptive and comparative analysis. The study's findings revealed that both the control and treatment groups had poor sleep quality prior to the intervention. After receiving the intervention, the treatment group's average sleep quality was good, but the control group's average sleep quality was low. The Mann Whitney Test results indicated that Zcount = 5.649 > Ztabel = 1.96, with a P value of 0.000 < α0.05. These findings demonstrated that hatha yoga has an impact on the sleep quality of the third trimester of pregnant women. It can be inferred that hatha yoga helps to calm the body and relieve tension. Reduced muscle tone will lead to improved sleep quality. Health facilities are advised to employ hatha yoga as an intervention to address sleep disturbances in pregnant women, hence improving sleep quality

Abstract

"Free sex" generally refers to sexual activity occurring outside of a committed, exclusive relationship, often without the expectation of marriage. Adolescent sexuality is a multifaceted and intricate aspect of human development, laden with social and psychological complexities. Research within the Indonesian context reveals a concerning trend: a significant proportion of high school students initiate sexual activity during their formative years. This literature review delves into the multifaceted factors that shape adolescent sexual behavior, encompassing a range of influences such as religious beliefs, peer pressure, the quality of sex education received, and the pervasive impact of social media. A profound understanding of these intricate factors is paramount for the development of effective strategies that empower adolescents to make informed and responsible sexual decisions, ultimately fostering their healthy and holistic development. This study employed a Literature Review methodology, utilizing the PubMed and Google Scholar databases to identify relevant research articles. A total of 16 articles were initially retrieved, with 10 articles ultimately selected based on predefined criteria. The search focused on articles published between 2016 and 2023, prioritizing those available in full text, open access, and published in reputable scientific journals, both in English and Indonesian. A comprehensive review of the selected articles was then conducted, focusing on the specific research topic. The results showed that the factors that influence the occurrence of free sex in adolescents are: Religious Values (p value= 0.017, so p<0.05), the role of parents (p value= 0.002, so p<0.005), peers (p value = 0.005, then p<0.005), information media (p value= 0.003, then p<0.005), and socio-economics (p value= 0, then p<0,005). In conclusion, adolescent sexual activity is influenced by a complex interplay of factors, including religious values, parental guidance, peer influence, media exposure, and socioeconomic conditions. Addressing this issue requires a multifaceted approach that encompasses comprehensive sex education, strong family support, and efforts to mitigate the impact of socio-economic disparities.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major risk factor for deadly non-communicable diseases. Its complications can include direct or indirect damage to organs such as the heart, brain, kidneys, and peripheral arteries. Blood pressure can be lowered through pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Non-pharmacological therapy, an alternative for hypertensive patients, includes consuming foods rich in potassium, calcium, and other beneficial substances, such as cucumbers. Cucumbers are low in calories, have high moisture content, and possess strong antioxidant, anti-fat, anti-diabetic, and anti-edema properties. Hypertension itself is characterized by increased pressure against the artery walls. Generally, it is diagnosed when systolic pressure exceeds 140 mmHg and diastolic pressure exceeds 90 mmHg. This study aimed to determine the effect of Cucumis sativus administration on reducing blood pressure in women of childbearing age within the Narmada Health Center's working area in West Lombok in 2024. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was used, comparing pre- and post-intervention data between the treatment and control groups. The study population comprised all 30 women in the area over the past three months. The sample consisted of pregnant women from Monjok village, selected using total sampling. An independent samples t-test was used for data analysis. The results showed a significant effect of Cucumis sativus on reducing blood pressure in women of childbearing age (p-value 0.007 < 0.05). This study suggests that Cucumis sativus can reduce blood pressure and may be a useful non-pharmacological treatment option.
