Abstract

Nutrition is a crucial element in food that plays a vital role in ensuring an individual's growth and development. Malnutrition is a common nutritional problem that affects children below the age of five. It occurs when the body lacks or has an imbalance of vital nutrients necessary for growth, cognitive development, and overall well-being. The preliminary study conducted at the Teratak Village Community Health Center found that some toddlers had a body weight that was below the recommended weight according to the age indicator in the KMS. The study had a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-and-post-test approach. A total of 20 toddlers aged between 24 to 60 months who were below the yellow line (BGK) and the red line (BGM) on the KMS graph were sampled during the weighing period between October 2022 – March 2023. The paired sample t-test method was used to analyze the changes in body weight. The study found that 16 toddlers experienced weight gain while two others did not show any increase in weight after the intervention. The statistical test resulted in a p-value of 0.000 (< α = 0.05), demonstrating that providing Moringa leaf tofu nuggets had a significant effect on the weight gain of toddlers. Providing additional food with tofu nuggets and Moringa leaves can increase toddlers' weight, with 50 grams of nuggets containing an additional protein intake of 5.65 grams.

Abstract

The escalating population of Indonesia is a pressing demographic challenge, contributing to a surge in the birth rate. Long-Term Contraceptive Methods (LTCM) offer a viable strategy for postponing and spacing pregnancies, thereby mitigating the adverse effects of population growth. However, LTCM utilization among women in the Glugur Health Center, Medan, remains notably low at 26.9%, indicating a significant gap in contraceptive access and adoption. To elucidate the factors influencing LTCM utilization, this study employed a cross-sectional research design. Data collection involved in-depth interviews with women residing within the Glugur Health Center's catchment area. The gathered data were subjected to rigorous analysis using univariate and bivariate statistical techniques. The findings revealed a strong correlation between Age (p=0,013; OR= 0,353), education (p=0.002; OR=3.594), the number of children (p=0.021; OR=2.545), knowledge (p=0.000; OR=4.278), attitudes (p=0.000; OR=10,818), source of information (p=0.017; OR=2,600), spouse's support (p=0.009; OR=3,135) and support of the health workers (p=0.028; OR=2.527) with LTCM utilization. The study's results underscore the critical role of comprehensive education and support in promoting LTCM adoption. Health officials and the Glugur Health Center should prioritize implementing targeted interventions to enhance women's knowledge and address any misconceptions regarding LTCM. Furthermore, fostering supportive environments, both within families and healthcare settings, is essential for encouraging consistent LTCM use. By addressing these key determinants, policymakers can significantly increase LTCM uptake and contribute to sustainable population growth in Indonesia.

Abstract

Hypnobreastfeeding, a relaxation technique that incorporates positive affirmations, has emerged as a promising strategy for enhancing milk production in postpartum women. By inducing a state of deep relaxation and focusing the mind on positive thoughts, hypnobreastfeeding can stimulate the release of prolactin and oxytocin, hormones crucial for milk synthesis and letdown. This study aimed to investigate the impact of hypnobreastfeeding on breastfeeding expenditure in postpartum women at UPTD Pahandut Health Center. A pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach was used. This design involved measuring participants' outcomes before and after the intervention, allowing for an assessment of any changes that occurred. The total sample size consisted of 36 individuals. The results of the study demonstrated a significant increase in milk production among the participants (p-value = 0.000). This suggests that hypnobreastfeeding can be an effective tool for augmenting milk supply, particularly for women facing challenges in breastfeeding. Hypnobreastfeeding offers a promising approach for increasing milk production in postpartum women. The findings of this study suggest that it can be a valuable tool for supporting breastfeeding and promoting the health and well-being of both mother and infant.

Abstract

Early initiation of breastfeeding (EIBF) is crucial for exclusive breastfeeding success and has many benefits for mothers, babies, and families. Moreover, EIBF also contributes to building the quality of the next generation. This study aims to investigate the factors that determine the implementation of EIBF and its effect on exclusive breastfeeding during the postpartum period. The research used an observational analytic approach with a prospective cohort design on all mothers who gave birth in health facilities in the Beru-beru Health Center working area, West Sulawesi Province in 2021. The research sample included mothers who gave birth in the same area, and were willing to participate as respondents and living in the location. The results of the Chi-Square test analysis showed that the start time and duration of EIBF implementation affected exclusive postpartum breastfeeding, with respective p-values of less than 0.001 and 0.001. This research highlights the importance of implementing EIBF by initiating immediate breastfeeding within five minutes after the baby is born and continuing it for at least one hour. Both the start time and duration of EIBF complement each other in achieving successful postpartum exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Anemia, a prevalent health condition among adolescents, can significantly impair cognitive function and academic performance. Iron deficiency, a primary cause of anemia in young females, arises from insufficient intake of iron, vitamin B12, and folic acid, essential for erythropoiesis. The reduction in hemoglobin levels associated with iron deficiency leads to diminished oxygen delivery to tissues, compromising cellular metabolism and cognitive development. Consequently, individuals with anemia may exhibit decreased work productivity and difficulty concentrating. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between anemia and academic achievement among female students at Baitul Hikmah Tempurejo Vocational School. A cross-sectional correlational design was employed, with a population of 43 Class XII female students. Simple random sampling was used to select 39 participants using the Slovin formula. Data analysis was conducted using the chi-square test. Findings revealed that 61.5% of the female students were anemic, while 38.5% were not. Additionally, 66.7% of the students failed to meet academic standards, compared to 33.3% who passed. Statistical analysis using the chi-square test indicated a weak correlation between anemia and learning achievement (p = 0.005). The study suggests a minimal association between anemia and academic performance among female students at Baitul Hikmah Tempurejo Vocational School. It is recommended that these students enhance their understanding of the potential impact of anemia on their studies.

Abstract

The morbidity and mortality rates of children can indicate the health status of a country. Immunization is one of the programs suggested to improve health status. The success of these programs can be observed by the achievement of UCI (Universal Child Immunization) from the coverage of complete essential immunization. The rejection of vaccination from families is one of the most common reasons why children don't receive complete immunization. Other reasons include busy schedules, remote locations, and frequent illnesses. These factors influence parents to reject or receive particular immunization programs or vaccines, including support factors from the family. The support from family can come in various forms such as providing motivation, offering guidance, or monitoring daily intake of food and medication. This study determines the relationship between family support and the completeness of essential immunization in infants and toddlers. The type of research used is descriptive research with a quantitative approach method and cross-sectional design. The technique used in this research is purposive sampling. The results showed that there is a relationship between family support and the completeness of essential immunization for infants and toddlers. Health workers are recommended to actively involve families by increasing their knowledge about the importance of complete immunization.

Abstract

"Free sex" generally refers to sexual activity occurring outside of a committed, exclusive relationship, often without the expectation of marriage. Adolescent sexuality is a multifaceted and intricate aspect of human development, laden with social and psychological complexities. Research within the Indonesian context reveals a concerning trend: a significant proportion of high school students initiate sexual activity during their formative years. This literature review delves into the multifaceted factors that shape adolescent sexual behavior, encompassing a range of influences such as religious beliefs, peer pressure, the quality of sex education received, and the pervasive impact of social media. A profound understanding of these intricate factors is paramount for the development of effective strategies that empower adolescents to make informed and responsible sexual decisions, ultimately fostering their healthy and holistic development. This study employed a Literature Review methodology, utilizing the PubMed and Google Scholar databases to identify relevant research articles. A total of 16 articles were initially retrieved, with 10 articles ultimately selected based on predefined criteria. The search focused on articles published between 2016 and 2023, prioritizing those available in full text, open access, and published in reputable scientific journals, both in English and Indonesian. A comprehensive review of the selected articles was then conducted, focusing on the specific research topic. The results showed that the factors that influence the occurrence of free sex in adolescents are: Religious Values (p value= 0.017, so p<0.05), the role of parents (p value= 0.002, so p<0.005), peers (p value = 0.005, then p<0.005), information media (p value= 0.003, then p<0.005), and socio-economics (p value= 0, then p<0,005). In conclusion, adolescent sexual activity is influenced by a complex interplay of factors, including religious values, parental guidance, peer influence, media exposure, and socioeconomic conditions. Addressing this issue requires a multifaceted approach that encompasses comprehensive sex education, strong family support, and efforts to mitigate the impact of socio-economic disparities.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major risk factor for deadly non-communicable diseases. Its complications can include direct or indirect damage to organs such as the heart, brain, kidneys, and peripheral arteries. Blood pressure can be lowered through pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Non-pharmacological therapy, an alternative for hypertensive patients, includes consuming foods rich in potassium, calcium, and other beneficial substances, such as cucumbers. Cucumbers are low in calories, have high moisture content, and possess strong antioxidant, anti-fat, anti-diabetic, and anti-edema properties. Hypertension itself is characterized by increased pressure against the artery walls. Generally, it is diagnosed when systolic pressure exceeds 140 mmHg and diastolic pressure exceeds 90 mmHg. This study aimed to determine the effect of Cucumis sativus administration on reducing blood pressure in women of childbearing age within the Narmada Health Center's working area in West Lombok in 2024. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was used, comparing pre- and post-intervention data between the treatment and control groups. The study population comprised all 30 women in the area over the past three months. The sample consisted of pregnant women from Monjok village, selected using total sampling. An independent samples t-test was used for data analysis. The results showed a significant effect of Cucumis sativus on reducing blood pressure in women of childbearing age (p-value 0.007 < 0.05). This study suggests that Cucumis sativus can reduce blood pressure and may be a useful non-pharmacological treatment option.

Abstract

Indonesia faces a significant challenge with child marriage, ranking second highest in ASEAN after Cambodia. This alarming trend has seen a concerning increase, highlighting the urgent need for effective interventions. In 2020 alone, NTB Province recorded 805 cases of underage marriage, emphasizing the critical nature of this issue within the region. This study aims to investigate the crucial role of family and the level of adolescent knowledge regarding early marriage in contributing to this concerning phenomenon. This study employed an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design, conducted at SMPN 02 Batukliang in Central Lombok Regency, involving 98 adolescent students as participants. The results of the study revealed that 39.8% of respondents belonged to families with either "good" or "sufficient" levels of family role, while 20.4% belonged to families with a "poor" level of family role. Regarding adolescent knowledge about early marriage, 36.7% of respondents (36 individuals) exhibited a "good" level of knowledge, and 43.9% (43 individuals) demonstrated a "sufficient" level of knowledge. Data analysis utilizing the chi-square test yielded a statistically significant result (p-value = 0.001), indicating a strong association between family role and adolescent knowledge about early marriage among students at SMPN Satu Atap 02 Batukliang in Batukliang District, Central Lombok Regency. This research concludes that effective parental guidance significantly influences adolescents' knowledge regarding future marriage plans, indirectly contributing to the prevention of underage marriage.

Abstract

Pregnancy-related psychological changes might lead to sleep difficulties. Sleep disturbances are common among pregnant women in Indonesia, accounting for approximately 64% of the cases. Hatha yoga can help pregnant women overcome their sleep difficulties. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of hatha yoga on the sleep quality of the third trimester of pregnant women. The research design used Quasy Experimental with non-equivalent control groups. Purposive sampling was used to identify 44 pregnant women in their third trimester, with 24 in the intervention group and 24 in the control group. Data collection used the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire, data analysis consisted of descriptive and comparative analysis. The study's findings revealed that both the control and treatment groups had poor sleep quality prior to the intervention. After receiving the intervention, the treatment group's average sleep quality was good, but the control group's average sleep quality was low. The Mann Whitney Test results indicated that Zcount = 5.649 > Ztabel = 1.96, with a P value of 0.000 < α0.05. These findings demonstrated that hatha yoga has an impact on the sleep quality of the third trimester of pregnant women. It can be inferred that hatha yoga helps to calm the body and relieve tension. Reduced muscle tone will lead to improved sleep quality. Health facilities are advised to employ hatha yoga as an intervention to address sleep disturbances in pregnant women, hence improving sleep quality
