Abstract

This study analyzed the impact of DGBL on the learning outcomes of PAI students in class X SMKN 2 Jember because most of PAI lessons mostly use the lecture method, so learning it needs an interesting innovation to improve student learning outcomes. Using the Quasi-Experiment One-Group Pretest—Post-test Design method with a sample of 35 DKV Class X students, data was collected through pretest and post-test with CP and TP-based instrument. Analysis was conducted using SPSS, including normality, reability, validity, ANOVA, and simple linear regression tests. The results showed a significant increase from the mean score of the pretest (62.8) to the posttest (83.3) and an increase in the percentage of students reaching the KKM from 11% to 91%. DGBL proved to have a significant effect on learning outcomes, with the regression model explaining 93,5% of the observed variation. This study demonstrates that DGBL is effective in improving the motivation and learning outcomes of PAI students, confirming the importance of technology-based learning innovations in religious education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of the collaborative learning approach in teaching speaking in English as a foreign language (EFL) classrooms in Indonesia. Adopting a qualitative case study approach, the research involved two English teachers from a non-formal English course institution. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews and classroom observations to explore how teachers applied the collaborative learning approach and the challenges they encountered. The findings reveal that this approach enhances students' confidence in speaking English, encourages more active participation in discussions, and improves their comprehension of the material. Teachers observed that students working in small groups tend to absorb language structures more effectively and develop greater fluency compared to those engaged in individual learning. However, several challenges arise, including variations in students’ proficiency levels, unequal contributions within groups, and difficulties in managing classroom dynamics. To address these challenges, teachers implement strategies such as assigning specific roles within groups and establishing structured speaking guidelines. Moreover, this approach positively impacts students' emotional engagement by boosting their motivation and fostering a more interactive learning environment. In conclusion, collaborative learning has been proven to effectively enhance students' speaking skills. However, its successful implementation requires well-planned strategies to ensure active participation from all students

Abstract

This study explores the role of TikTok in shaping English vocabulary skills in Generation Z students at SMK Nusantara Bangorejo. The development of digital technology, especially social media platforms such as TikTok, has created a significant informal learning space for the digital native generation. The research aims to identify patterns of consumption of English-language content, analyze the types of vocabulary acquired, evaluate the effectiveness of TikTok as a learning resource, and develop a conceptual framework for its integration in formal learning. Using a qualitative approach, the data was collected through semi-structured interviews with 20 students and one English teacher, as well as indirect observation of student activity on TikTok. The results of the study showed that 75% of participants experienced an increase in English vocabulary after accessing TikTok regularly, with a preference for song, vlog, and game-based educational materials. The platform facilitates the acquisition of contemporary and informal vocabulary that is rarely encountered in formal curricula through incidental learning. Key challenges include the gap between passive recognition and active production of vocabulary, as well as potential addiction. It is concluded that TikTok has the potential to be an effective pedagogical tool when it is integrated in a structured manner with digital literacy in mind, through a conceptual framework that includes a social media responsive curriculum, authentic content-based pedagogy, informal learning assessments, and digital literacy development.

Abstract

Many previous studies evaluating the accuracy of Google Translate showed many issues and problems in the translation process through the variation of language pairs. However, those previous studies explored the general terms of accuracy, not one specific aspect of the translation output. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of Google Translate in translating English polysemous words found in the feature article. This study was conducted to foresee one specific area of semantics: polysemous words. Five feature article pairs that have already been published were used as the subject of this study. The data were all of the polysemous words found in the source text, divided into speech parts and the Google Translate output. These were evaluated using dictionaries of both languages to determine whether the meaning transferred was accurate. The result showed that Google Translate accurately translates English polysemous words. However, as not all the accuracy of the part of speech reaches 100%, Google Translate users still need to recheck the translation output and post edit so that the translation accuracy of the polysemous word can reach 100%.

Abstract

This study explores interrogative modality in educational discourse at SMA 7 Mataram, specifically in English language classrooms. The research aims to investigate how teachers utilize interrogative modality and to determine its impact on the learning process. Adopting a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through classroom observations, audio recordings, and semi-structured interviews with four experienced English teachers. The analysis revealed that teachers employ diverse interrogative modalities, with "can" being the most frequently used (25%), followed by "could" (15%) and "would" (10%). These modalities serve different pedagogical functions, from facilitating simple recall to encouraging critical analysis. The strategic use of interrogative modality significantly enhanced the learning process in multiple ways. Student engagement increased from 50% to 80% throughout the semester in classes featuring analytical and evaluative questions. Students also demonstrated development in critical thinking skills, with responses evolving from brief and factual to nuanced analyses with textual evidence. Additionally, responses to analytical questions were 30% longer than those to factual questions, showcasing improved language production with more complex sentence structures and diverse vocabulary. Teachers utilized interrogative modality as an effective formative assessment tool to identify misconceptions and adjust teaching strategies in real-time. The findings indicate a shift from traditional IRE (Initiation-Response-Evaluation) patterns toward more dialogic IRF (Initiation-Response-Feedback) interactions, highlighting the need for professional development focused on strategic use of interrogative modality in English language learning contexts in Indonesia.
