Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas kemampuan peserta didik memanfaatkan peranti kebahasaan dalam pengonstruksian teks resensi yang dihasilkan melalui metode saintifik. Variabel yang diukur yaitu kemampuan peserta didik memanfaatkan peranti penghubung intrakalimat, peranti penghubung antarkalimat dan peranti penghubung antarparagraf. Keseluruhannya dideskripsikan secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Dengan itu, teori relevan yang digunakan adalah teks resensi, konjungsi, reiterasi, perujukan, dan antonimi disertai instrumen penilaian hasil pembelajaran. Pemerolehan data dilakukan dengan metode simak libat cakap atau istilah lainnya disebut observasi partisipatif dengan teknik purposive sampling, simple random sampling, dan sampling sistematis. Selanjutnya, data dianalisis menggunakan metode padan intralingual dan padan ekstralingual dengan teknik hubung banding membedakan (HBB), teknik hubung banding menyamakan (HBS) dan teknik hubung banding menyamakan hal pokok (HBSP) sebagai teknik lanjutan. Terakhir, data disajikan dengan metode informal dan formal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peranti penghubung intrakalimat dimanfaatkan dengan sangat baik dan peranti penghubung antarkalimat digunakan dengan cukup baik. Akan tetapi, peserta didik belum mampu memanfaatkan peranti penghubung antarparagraf dengan baik terutama pada fitur kebahasaan repetisi makna, katafora, antonim dan hiponim. Namun secara keseluruhan, peserta didik dikategorikan cukup mampu memanfaatkan peranti kebahasaan dengan perolehan nilai akhir sebesar 67.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ketepatan pemilihan kata dalam campur kode anak usia dini hasil perkawinan endogami saat berkomunikasi dengan anggota keluarga dan teman sejawat. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Adapun subjek penelitian terdiri dari tiga orang anak yaitu NQD, AHA, dan QIM dengan rentang usia empat sampai lima tahun. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode observasi, wawancara, metode simak dengan teknik rekam dan catat. Analisis data dilakukan dengan tahapan transkripsi, identifikasi, klasifikasi, analisis dan verivikasi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data diperoleh hasil bahwa anak usia 4-5 tahun sudah mampu menggunakan pilihan kata dalam campur kode dengan tepat sesuai dengan arti dan maksud tuturannya

Abstract

This research aims to determine how students' self-confidence is seen from their fluency in speaking English, types of self-confidence in students seen from their self-confidence, and also the strategies used by teachers to increase students' self-confidence at SMP Islam Terpadu Generasi Muslim Cendikia. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected using observation techniques, speaking tests, questionnaires, and interviews. The subjects were 24 female students of class VIII/C at SMP Islam Terpadu Generasi Muslim Cendikia. The observations were indirect observations, where the researcher was not directly involved in the activities. A speaking rubric was used to measure the level of fluency in speaking English, and student self-confidence was determined based on self-confidence indicators during student speaking. For the questionnaire, a Likert scale is used and finally, the researcher conducted interviews were conduct is used with related teachers to determine strategies to increase student self-confidence. Based on the results of the analysis the results of the speaking test and survey questionnaire showed that students who have a high level of confidence also have high scores, and vice versa. There are 5 kinds of self-confidence in students, namely confidence in speaking in formal situations, confidence in speaking in class discussions, confidence in speaking with peers, confidence in speaking in everyday situations, and confidence in speaking in academic contexts, it is also found that there are 8 strategies that teachers can use to increase students' self-confidence.

Abstract

Pembelajaran yang bahasa Inggris yang efektif sebagaimana diharapkan dalam Education 4.0 adalah yang pembelajaran bahasa yang melibatkan siswa untuk berpartisipasi dan berkolaborasi dengan siswa lainnya di kelas secara lisan dan tulisan. Namun sebagian besar  guru Bahasa Inggris mengajar menggunakan metode mengajar teacher-centered yang mengakibatkan siswa pasif dan enggan untuk berpartisipasi dan berkolaborasi dengan siswa lain. Berdasarkan hal tersebut kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat bertujuan: 1) untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kemampuan guru dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran yang melibatkan partisipasi aktif siswa dalam belajar melalui model pembelajaran kolaboratif dan partisipatif,  2) memecahkan salah satu permasalahan utama yang dihadapi guru-guru bahasa Inggris terkaiti rendahnya motivasi dan kemampuan siswa dalam berkolaborasi, berpikir kritis, berkreasi dan berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Inggris, dan (3) mengembangkan kerjasama antara Program Studi S2 Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FKIP UNRAM dengan pemangku kepentingan terutama guru-guru Bahasa Inggris di lingkungan MAN Lombok Barat. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah dengan presentasi untuk menyampaikan informasi tentang pembelajaran kolaboratif dan partisipatif  pemberian model, dan praktik atau latihan terbimbing dan mandiri. Jumlah peserta kegiatan yaitu 30 orang guru di lingkungan MAN Lombok Barat. Luaran kegiatan ini adalah artikel yang diterbitkan pada jurnal Paper akan diterbitkan di Jurnal Pengabdian Darma Diksani.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the learning strategies used by students in acquiring vocabulary through TikTok, the hurdles that they face, and how they overcome them utilizing the Oxford’s (1990) theory. This study is designed to use a qualitative descriptive method. The majority of the data in this study are collected through focus group discussions (FGDs), questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this study consist 66 of eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Mataram who use TikTok for vocabulary acquisition. The analysis reveals that the overall use of learning strategies in acquiring vocabulary through TikTok is at a medium level, with an average score of 2.73. The most frequently used strategy is the affective strategy, with an average score of 3.06. Meanwhile the least utilized strategy is the social strategy, with an average score of 2.04. Other strategies include memory (3.05), cognitive (2.87), compensation (2.87), and metacognitive strategies (2.52). Furthermore, the findings indicate that the most common hurdles faced by students include difficulties in understanding vocabulary, reported by 30% of the students, followed by a lack of detailed explanations (20%), variability in content quality (18%), and inaccurate subtitles (14%). Students primarily overcome these hurdles by using additional tools (27%), followed by asking experts (18%), repeating videos (15%), and seeking other videos (11%). The implications of these findings suggest that enhancing students’ awareness of effective learning strategies and improving content quality could significantly benefit vocabulary acquisition through digital platforms.

Abstract

This study explores interrogative modality in educational discourse at SMA 7 Mataram, specifically in English language classrooms. The research aims to investigate how teachers utilize interrogative modality and to determine its impact on the learning process. Adopting a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through classroom observations, audio recordings, and semi-structured interviews with four experienced English teachers. The analysis revealed that teachers employ diverse interrogative modalities, with "can" being the most frequently used (25%), followed by "could" (15%) and "would" (10%). These modalities serve different pedagogical functions, from facilitating simple recall to encouraging critical analysis. The strategic use of interrogative modality significantly enhanced the learning process in multiple ways. Student engagement increased from 50% to 80% throughout the semester in classes featuring analytical and evaluative questions. Students also demonstrated development in critical thinking skills, with responses evolving from brief and factual to nuanced analyses with textual evidence. Additionally, responses to analytical questions were 30% longer than those to factual questions, showcasing improved language production with more complex sentence structures and diverse vocabulary. Teachers utilized interrogative modality as an effective formative assessment tool to identify misconceptions and adjust teaching strategies in real-time. The findings indicate a shift from traditional IRE (Initiation-Response-Evaluation) patterns toward more dialogic IRF (Initiation-Response-Feedback) interactions, highlighting the need for professional development focused on strategic use of interrogative modality in English language learning contexts in Indonesia.
