Abstract

Social media is an emerging social platform through which millions of people share information and interact with one another daily. Studies on the predictors of self-disclosure on social media tend to give varying results. Therefore, this study investigated personality traits and gender as predictors of self-disclosure on social media among university undergraduates. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design while a purposive sampling technique was used to select the study population. Data were collected from 301 undergraduates using validated questionnaires and analyzed using an independent samples t-test and multiple regression analysis at p  < 0.05 level of significance. The result showed that personality traits of extraversion, agreeableness, openness to experience, conscientiousness and neuroticism jointly predicted self-disclosure on social media among study participants. Also, the result revealed that gender significantly influences self-disclosure on social media among study participants such that female undergraduates were higher in self-disclosure on social media than their male counterparts. The study concluded that personality traits and gender are strong predictors of self-disclosure on social media among study participants.

Abstract

The present study aims to adapt a workplace bullying scale in Bengali that will enable us to assess workplace bullying precisely in the Bangladeshi job sector. Previous workplace bullying studies identified two elements on the WB scale, namely work-related and person-related. In the adapted version of the WB scale, these components are conceptually comprehensible and comparable to the original scale. We have performed different psychometric analyses to adapt the WB scale to Bengali. Item analysis tests were executed using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Findings from both of these tests were satisfactory for the test items. Next, we performed reliability tests using Cronbach’s alpha to assess internal and external reliability to assess inter-rater reliability. The scale demonstrates a satisfactory internal and external reliability level, indicating consistency. Finally, a convergent validity test was performed by comparing the obtained WB and well-being scale scores. The significant negative correlation between workplace bullying and well-being enables us to align the theoretical concept of the workplace bullying variable with pertinent variables, demonstrating a reasonable degree of convergent validity of the scale. This adapted WB scale has proved to be an efficient psychometric tool that appropriately measures workplace bullying in Bengali.

Abstract

Impulsive buying has become a major issue among the younger generation. Identifying factors that can prevent impulsive buying is crucial for promoting both mental and financial well-being. This study aims to explore the relationship between self-regulation and impulsive buying among members of online shopping communities. We focused on several Telegram communities consisting of people who often shop online only during big promotions. This correlational quantitative research involved 100 participants, selected using a convenient sampling technique. Data analysis using Pearson product moment correlation analysis showed a coefficient value of -0.590 and R² = 0.348 with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This result indicates that there is a medium-strength negative relationship between self-regulation and impulsive buying. In other words, as self-regulation increases, impulsive buying decreases. These findings highlight the importance of developing self-regulation skills to reduce impulsive buying behavior, which can contribute to better mental and financial health among young people who are active in online shopping.

Abstract

Ideally, offenders need to gain public belief in their redeemability, which eases their reintegration process and prevents repeated criminal offenses, especially juvenile offenders, as the majority of Klitih offenders are. Otherwise, the fact is that not only do they have to face criminal punishment but also social sanctions, even though they have completed their sentences. This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the role of Husnudzon and belief in a punitive God in determining belief in klitih offender redeemability. The data was collected using Husnudzon Scale, Belief in A Punitive God Scale, and Offender Redeemability scale. The sample was selected using purposive sampling with inclusion criteria, namely, being an Indonesian citizens aged 18–60 years, being a Muslim, living in Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) at least since 2016 for at least 2 years, and having updated the news and/or discussed klitih cases in DIY. The results of multiple linear regression analysis (N = 136) showed that Husnudzon positively predicted belief in offender redeemability, and belief in a punitive God negatively predicted belief in offender redeemability. This research suggested that the public should balance two perspectives of religious belief, which are forgiveness-based and punishment-based, to advocate belief in offender redeemability in supporting positive criminal justice.

Abstract

Guidance related to Sexual behavior is important for adolescents due to the high risks and potentially negative impacts of this behavior. This study to investigate the effect of religiosity and parenting pattern on sexual behavior and to test whether motivation to avoid premarital sexual behavior mediate the effect. This quantitative correlational study involved 204 adolescents living in Kebumen regency of Central Java, selected using cluster random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and hypothesis testing was carried out using path analysis which technically uses multiple regression analysis. The research results showed that religiosity has a significant effect on motivation to avoid premarital sexual behavior with a contribution. Meanwhile, parenting pattern does not have a significant effect on the motivation variable to avoid premarital sexual behavior, and the religiosity has a significant effect on sexual behavior.  Furthermore, parenting pattern has a significant negative effect on adolescent sexual behavior and motivation to avoid premarital sexual behavior cannot completely become an intervening variable for religiosity and parenting Pattern regarding sexual behavior. Implications of this findings are further explained.

Abstract

Nigeria is currently facing a significant shortage of qualified healthcare professionals. With forecasts suggesting that the population could reach 263 million by 2030 and a growing trend of medical practitioners leaving the country, this challenge is expected to worsen unless addressed effectively. Utilizing social exchange theory, this study explored the relationship between psychological contract breach, abusive supervision, and the turnover intentions of healthcare workers in Nigeria, as well as, investigating the mediating effect of organizational cynicism in these relationships. A cross-sectional survey design was employed to collect data from a sample of 200 healthcare professionals in tertiary and secondary public hospitals across the three senatorial districts in Ondo State, Nigeria. The findings revealed that both psychological contract breach and abusive supervision were positively correlated with turnover intentions among this group. Furthermore, organizational cynicism was found to fully mediate these relationships. This study implies the need for the government and healthcare management commitments against abusive supervision in the healthcare system.

Abstract

Coffee has become a lifestyle among Indonesians, and the trend of coffee culture is growing rapidly, especially among young people. The development of coffee culture has made coffee shops not only a place to transact coffee, but also to gather, conduct meetings, and even do assignments. As one of the popular locations, coffee shops have become a favorite place for most students or workers who work from anywhere (WFA) in Indonesia. Several related studies have highlighted the attributes of the coffee shop rather than the motives of the people to go to coffee shop. Therefore, this study aims to understand the subject's motives in choosing a coffee shop as a place to work or study. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method on visitors who work on assignments or in coffee shops with subject criteria who work on assignments or work in coffee shops at least once a week and have a status as a student. This research succeeded in revealing four significant findings, namely: 1) motive of achievement; 2) types of tasks carried out in the coffee shop; 3) Encouragement as a reinforcement of the motive of achievement; and 4) factors that influence the work carried out in the coffee shop. This research concludes that coffee shops have an essential role as an alternative place for students to study and work. By providing a conducive atmosphere, adequate facilities, and quality products, coffee shops can support students' academic productivity in completing assignments.

Abstract

Every child is born with different abilities and potential in both academic and non-academic fields. This difference in potential is because not all children are born in perfect physical and mental condition or are called children with special needs (ABK). ABK require special attention and supervision, especially in receiving educational services. One group of ABK is children with mental retardation. The reading process for mentally retarded children involves complex cognitive processes, including the ability to remember, think, and reason. The aim of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of the picture and picture learning method in improving reading skills in a student with mild intellectual disabilities at SLB X The research method is experimentation with a single case design. The intervention was implemented in 3 phases, namely baseline (A1), intervention, and baseline (A2) for 2 research subjects. Data were analyzed graphically to identify changes in reading ability. The results showed that both research subjects experienced significant improvements in reading ability after intervention. Reading scores increased from the first baseline to the second baseline. Picture and picture learning method has proven to be effective in improving reading ability and learning motivation of children with mild intellectual disabilities.
