This journal publishes articles on community service and empowerment results that are problem-solving, comprehensive, meaningful, and sustainable, with clear goals. Various community service and empowerment activities must have novelty (have innovation and creativity), so that they do not just replicate the same activities in different places, have measurable results and impacts on society, and support the achievement of the goals set forth in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDGs are a global action plan agreed by world leaders, to end poverty, reduce inequality and protect the environment. The SDGs contain 17 Goals and 169 Targets, so that each article must be linked to these goals and targets (as stated in the contribution statement).

Abstract

Food safety and halal compliance are critical components of public health, particularly in Indonesia, which has the world’s largest Muslim population. This study aimed to enhance food safety literacy among high school students by integrating halal principles through a community service-based educational intervention at a vocational pesantren school - SMKI Anharul Ulum Blitar. A total of 29 students and 3 teachers participated in seminars, practice sessions, and discussions covering food safety fundamentals, halal principles, product identification, and practical hygiene applications. Pre- and post-intervention assessments measured knowledge, integrative reasoning, product identification skills, and practical application. Results indicated substantial improvements in basic knowledge, with average scores increasing from 71.6 to 94.8 for food safety (32.5% increase) and from 57.5 to 95.4 for halal principles (66% increase). Integration of food safety and halal knowledge showed a modest gain (14.3%), suggesting that participants still viewed these domains separately. Skills in identifying halal products improved moderately (11.5%), while practical application of food safety and halal principles increased by 36.4%. The findings highlight that while knowledge acquisition is achievable through short-term interventions, translating this knowledge into confident, practical behavior requires hands-on learning, repeated practice, and reinforcement. Incorporating activities such as label-reading exercises, product case studies, and supervised demonstrations can enhance participants’ competence and confidence. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of integrating halal principles into food safety education, emphasizing the importance of experiential learning and structured guidance to foster sustainable behavioral change. The results provide a model for school-based programs aiming to improve food safety literacy and halal awareness among the younger generation in Indonesia.

Abstract

This community service program aims to support the development of sustainable garden tourism in Jubung Village, Jember, through community assistance and empowerment. Jubung Village has great potential in agricultural-based tourism; however, its management and promotion are still limited. The program was implemented through participatory approaches involving local communities, village officials, and tourism stakeholders. The methods included community training, workshops on sustainable tourism management, branding and digital marketing assistance, as well as the design of eco-friendly tourism activities. The results show that the community gained increased knowledge and skills in managing tourism resources sustainably, developing creative products, and strengthening collaboration among stakeholders. In addition, the program encouraged local awareness of environmental preservation and created new economic opportunities for villagers. This activity demonstrates that continuous community assistance plays a vital role in realizing sustainable garden tourism that not only supports local economic growth but also preserves environmental and socio-cultural values.

Abstract

This program is a response to significant public health challenges, where non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and poor oral health are still prevalent and impact the quality of life of residents, while awareness of routine health checkups and preventive behaviors remains low. This program aims to conduct early detection of NCD risk factors and increase community knowledge about healthy lifestyles and oral health maintenance. Activities include health examinations covering blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, uric acid, and dental examinations, followed by health education and guidance sessions by the Regular Community Service Program (KKN) IPE 010 of Muhammadiyah University Yogyakarta. A total of 46 residents participated in the check-ups, with results showing a high prevalence of hypertension (63.1%) and high cholesterol (80%), while most participants had normal blood sugar levels (94.6%) and normal uric acid levels (80%). Dental examinations revealed a very high DMF-T index (7.91), indicating widespread and untreated dental problems. This program has proven to enhance community understanding regarding early detection, the importance of routine health monitoring, and the adoption of healthy lifestyle behaviors. These findings underscore the need for sustained promotive and preventive interventions through collaboration between healthcare workers and stakeholders to improve health outcomes.

Abstract

This community service project was conducted to address the limited inclusivity and accessibility of outdoor learning environments at SLB YPAC Surabaya, a special needs school in Indonesia. The objective was to design inclusive front yard and central courtyard spaces that support educational, therapeutic, and social activities for students with diverse disabilities. The project provided the school with two conceptual, ready-to-implement design proposals developed through a participatory process. A qualitative, participatory approach was used, involving site observations, spatial analysis, and a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with school stakeholders. Data gathered informed design solutions based on universal design principles and multisensory accessibility. The front yard design includes guiding blocks, inclusive waiting areas, and accessible circulation routes, while the central courtyard features a multisensory interaction zone with rubber flooring, therapeutic paths, tactile walls, and shaded resting areas. Both designs address key accessibility, comfort, and learning needs identified through FGD. This project shows that inclusive spatial planning, even without physical implementation, can generate practical and meaningful outcomes. The designs not only align with universal design theory but also reflect the real needs of users, offering a foundation for inclusive educational infrastructure that can be replicated in similar school contexts.

Abstract

English proficiency in the context of digital communication has become an essential skill in the era of globalization, including for the managers of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes). This community service program aims to enhance the English digital communication competence of BUMDes Purworejo managers in Pesawaran Regency, Lampung, in order to support the promotion of the village’s superior products through social media. Based on preliminary observations, there are still limitations in practical English skills and the professional use of social media. Through an English for Specific Purposes (ESP)-based training approach, participants were equipped with skills in creating English promotional content, captioning techniques, storytelling, and the introduction of commonly used digital marketing terminology. This activity is expected to improve the digital branding capacity of BUMDes, expand market reach, and strengthen the competitiveness of local village products. Moreover, the program contributes to the development of applied English studies in the field of digital business communication and community empowerment through language and technology literacy.

Abstract

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is essential in nursing for providing high-quality care that improves patient outcomes and enhances nurses’ professionalism. Although nurses in Indonesia have learned about EBP during their academic education, many remain less eager to apply it in daily practice due to limited knowledge and competence. Bridging this gap between knowledge and practice is vital for advancing nursing standards. In addressing this issue, a community service program was conducted in September 2025 at one of the largest hospital foundations in Greater Jakarta. The program aimed to provide EBP training and workshops for nurses in the region, while also allowing participation from other areas through a hybrid format. The activity began with a preparatory session, followed by an implementation phase featuring four expert speakers who explained the step-by-step process of applying EBP in nursing. A total of 142 nurses participated, with 98 completing both pre- and post-tests and receiving national continuing education credits. The evaluation results showed significant improvement in knowledge (pre-test: 63 ± 10.02 vs. post-test: 82.24 ± 15.23; t = -5.64, p < 0.001). Participants also practiced searching and appraising research evidence in small groups. Overall, the program effectively enhanced nurses’ understanding and application of EBP.

Abstract

We need new and better ways for Environmental Community to talk to each other to deal with climate change. This Community Service project shows how Agroforestry and Mangrove Conservation can work together to make the message of climate change stronger through Green Public Communication. This is happening in Taiwan and Indonesia. This program is part of the University Social Responsibility (USR) program in Taiwan, and Tzu Chi University works with the program. First, the event's goal was to raise awareness about the environment by having volunteers clean up in Ximen, Taipei. Participants worked together to clean up public spaces, pick up trash, and spread the word about how important it is to keep the city clean and protect the environment. Second, this activity is all about the Agroforestry area, with a tour at the Tzu Chi University Agroforestry Area in Hualien. Third, there was a seminar and workshop in Jakarta for documentary filmmakers that taught them how to make digital campaign content about the environment for social media to make the message of climate change stronger. The goal of this program is to get more people involved in protecting mangrove ecosystems and agroforestry to fight climate change. The results show that working together across sectors and using Environmental Action methods and Digital Campaigns to spread public education messages through Social Media posts can make the climate change message stronger in society and get more people involved in protecting the environment.

Abstract

Effective communication enhances patient-centered care by improving engagement, outcomes, and health literacy, particularly in chronic disease management. Pharmacists’ communication skills are essential for building trust, improving adherence, and ensuring rational drug use, though gaps remain. Healthcare communication is influenced by psychological, social, and environmental factors, requiring validated and practical training tools. Simulation-based approaches, such as role-playing, effectively strengthen empathy and communication skills in pharmacy students, promoting humanistic care and preparedness to engage diverse patient populations. A community service activity was conducted at SMK Kesehatan Mandonga, Kendari, in April 2025 by STIKES Pelita Ibu, IAI Southeast Sulawesi, and pharmacy students. It involved three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The event began with a pre-test on healthcare communication, followed by interactive counseling and role-playing exercises to enhance understanding of communication in pharmaceutical practice. Participants’ knowledge increased notably from 77.45% before the intervention to 92.36% afterward, supported by a p-value of 0.001, indicating a significant improvement following the educational and training activities. Role-playing in health communication education is highly relevant for pharmacy students, enabling experiential learning that fosters interpersonal, ethical, and empathetic communication within simulated pharmaceutical care settings.
