This journal publishes articles on community service and empowerment results that are problem-solving, comprehensive, meaningful, and sustainable, with clear goals. Various community service and empowerment activities must have novelty (have innovation and creativity), so that they do not just replicate the same activities in different places, have measurable results and impacts on society, and support the achievement of the goals set forth in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDGs are a global action plan agreed by world leaders, to end poverty, reduce inequality and protect the environment. The SDGs contain 17 Goals and 169 Targets, so that each article must be linked to these goals and targets (as stated in the contribution statement).

Abstract

The use of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) from garlic and onion skin waste has the potential to be an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical fertilizer AB Mix in the cultivation of curly lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) in a vertical garden system. This research aims to describe the quality of LOF with the addition of Eco Enzyme, analyze the effect of various LOF concentrations on the height, number, biomass, and morphology of curly lettuce, and describe the impact of implementing LOF application that can support SDG 2.2 food security indicators. The research was conducted from September to November 2025 at the Oase Tembok Gede Smart Village in Surabaya. The research method uses 2 stages: LOF prototype creation and nutrient content testing at BSPJI Surabaya, referring to the Minister of Agriculture Decree No. 261/KPTS/SR.310/M/4/2019. Additionally, LOF implementation on curly lettuce plants in a vertical garden with parameters of height, number, biomass, and morphology of curly lettuce. The data analysis technique used was descriptive quantitative analysis, followed by a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments (P0: budikdamber water control, P1: 40 mL, P2: 50 mL, P3: 60 mL) and three replications. The quality test results showed a K₂O content of 2.03% meeting the minimum standards of the Ministry of Agriculture Decree No. 261/KPTS/SR.310/M/4/2019. ANOVA analysis showed no significant difference between treatments (p > 0.05), but treatment P3 (60 ml) produced the best growth with a height of 11 cm, 7 leaves, a fresh weight of 11 grams, and fresh green leaves. Although the nutrient quality of LOF is not yet optimal, the growth of curly lettuce remains good because it is supported by suitable environmental conditions. This research supports SDG indicator 2.2 (Zero Hunger) thru the utilization of household waste for local food security based on urban agriculture.

Abstract

Writing journal is a part of problem occurring for student congregations in GKSI Mojogedang. This study aims to describe the implementation of a process approach in training members of the Indonesian Sangkakala Christian Church (GKSI) to write academic articles in English. The process approach focuses on the stages of writing, including pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. It is estimated that this method can improve the quality of writing and the confidence of participants. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through direct observation during the training process, in-depth interviews with participants and facilitators, and documentation of participants' written work. The results show that the process approach has a positive impact on improving the academic writing skills of church members in English. Participants showed improvement in their understanding of article structure, use of academic language, and ability to revise their work independently. In addition, this approach encourages collaboration, reflection, and active participation of participants in the writing process. The challenges faced include differences in educational backgrounds and limited training time. These findings suggest that the process approach is effective in non-formal contexts such as church communities, with the caveat that strategies must be tailored to the characteristics of the participants.

Abstract

This article discusses the role of da'wah communication in maintaining interfaith harmony, focusing on persuasive and empathetic da'wah strategies in interfaith communities. In the context of a multicultural society, da'wah is not only understood as the activity of conveying religious teachings, but also as a medium for social dialogue oriented towards strengthening the values of tolerance and social cohesion. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive analytical approach to explore forms of da'wah communication that can bridge differences in beliefs and build harmonious relations between people. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation of interfaith da'wah activities organized by religious leaders and religious institutions at the community level. The results show that persuasive da'wah strategies that emphasize dialogue, respect for differences, and the delivery of moral messages in a humanistic manner are capable of fostering social empathy and strengthening a sense of togetherness amid plurality. The empathetic approach taken by preachers has proven effective in reducing interfaith prejudice and enhancing constructive social interaction. Thus, da'wah communication based on persuasive and empathetic values plays a significant role in maintaining harmony and strengthening social cohesion in a pluralistic society.

Abstract

Indonesia is entering an aging population phase, characterized by a significant rise in the number of elderly individuals. As they age, they are more prone to diverse health problems that require holistic care. Detecting health issues early is vital to prevent worsening conditions, reduce illness and disability, and improve the quality of life of the elderly. The activity focuses on empowering elderly residents and staff in nursing homes to identify health issues at an early stage. This community service activity applied a descriptive qualitative approach. By conducting interviews, observations, and examinations, the team identified the main complaints and health conditions experienced by most elderly residents in nursing homes. A total of 75 elderly residents underwent health screenings, including 60 females (80%) and 15 males (20%), with an average age of 78.92 years. The screenings covered medical record reviews, interviews, vital sign checks, and health education sessions. Hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, hyperuricemia, and cataracts were identified as the five most common illnesses among elderly residents. The predominant complaints reported were muscle pain, headaches, skin injuries/bruises, and itchy skin. Through early detection, holistic assessment, and risk factor identification, elderly health can be optimally maintained, quality of life enhanced, and aging experienced with greater independence, comfort, and meaning.

Abstract

Deep learning-oriented instruction, characterized by meaningful, mindful, and joyful learning, is increasingly promoted as a pathway to strengthen 21st-century learning. However, many teachers still experience conceptual and procedural difficulties when implementing project-based learning in ways that genuinely engage students in inquiry, collaboration, and problem solving. This community service program aimed to strengthen teachers' performance in Deep Learning-integrated Project-Based Learning (DL-PjBL) among Muhammadiyah junior secondary school teachers in Batu City, Indonesia. The program was implemented from June to December 2025 and involved 20 teachers from multiple subject areas. Program stages included socialization, intensive workshop sessions, guided module development, classroom implementation, mentoring, and reflection. Quantitative data were obtained from expert reviews of teaching modules and classroom observations of four model teachers, using a five-point performance rubric across six DL-PjBL stages: driving question, project planning, scheduling, monitoring, assessment, and reflection. Descriptive analysis showed clear improvement after the intervention. In module design, mean scores increased from 1.4-1.8 before the workshop to 3.0-3.5 after the workshop. In classroom practice, mean scores improved from 1.4-1.8 to 2.5-3.5. The greatest gains were observed in project planning, scheduling, and monitoring, while product assessment and reflection still required reinforcement during classroom implementation. Qualitative reflections indicated stronger teacher understanding of problem positioning, greater confidence in designing contextual projects, and more positive attitudes toward active and collaborative learning. Overall, the mentoring program strengthened teachers' understanding, skills, and professional appreciation of DL-PjBL and demonstrated their growing readiness to implement more meaningful, mindful, and joyful learning in school practice.

Abstract

This research is driven by the phenomenon of dehumanization in contemporary education, which tends to overemphasize cognitive aspects, technical skills, and mechanical productivity for industrial needs, thereby neglecting the affective, spiritual, and social dimensions of students. Vocational schools (SMK) face a unique challenge in balancing industrial competence demands with the formation of noble character and social concern. SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Bantul (MUSABA) seeks to address this by integrating Al-Ma’un theology as a foundation for humanizing education. The objectives of this research are to describe and analyze the implementation of Al-Ma’un values at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Bantul, to interpret the practices of educational humanization at the school, and to examine the integrative model of Al-Ma’un values as a philosophical and operational basis for developing humanistic education. This study is qualitative research using a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the Principal, ISMUBA teachers, and students, direct observation of school interactions and social activities, and documentation of school policies. Data analysis followed the interactive model by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The research findings indicate that: (1) The implementation of Al-Ma’un values at MUSABA is manifested through social concern (ta’awun), sincerity, and siding with the marginalized (mustad’afin), which are integrated into the school’s vision, mission, and organizational culture. (2) Educational humanization is practiced through inclusive policies, dialogic pedagogy, and a school environment that functions as a “second home” without violence or discrimination. (3) Al-Ma’un values serve as the basis for humanization by transforming the paradigm of students from “industrial objects” to “God’s mandates” (Amanah), realized through spiritual-humanist counseling and scholarship programs (Lazismu) to empower those in need. The conclusion of this research confirms that Al-Ma’un theology has successfully transformed vocational education at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Bantul into an institution that produces graduates who are not only technically skilled but also possess strong social character and humanistic values.

Abstract

Community aspirations play an essential role in shaping the direction of public service development. The SP4N-LAPOR! application, designed under the No Wrong Door Policy, serves as a platform for channeling public complaints to authorized institutions. This study aims to analyze community readiness and legal culture in using SP4N-LAPOR!, evaluate the effectiveness of the socialization program, and identify obstacles in managing public complaints. Using a qualitative descriptive method through interviews, observations, and document analysis, the socialization in Mekar Agung Village increased public participation in reporting issues such as damaged roads, inadequate street lighting, and high stunting rates. However, limited digital literacy, weak legal awareness, and slow institutional response remain significant barriers. The findings align with public service and e-government theories, emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring, capacity building, and cross-sector collaboration to strengthen the effectiveness of public complaint management.

Abstract

Generation Z, often referred to as the internet generation (iGen), born between 1997 and 2012, is a generation deeply immersed in technological advancements. The rapid development of technology across various financial sectors has meant that Generation Z is also a generation that is enjoying the shift from traditional financial services to digital financial services, such as online loans and paylater schemes. Online loans are services that make it easy for users to borrow money online, whilst paylater schemes allow users to obtain the products or services they desire first and make payment at a later date. The rising incidence of non-performing loans in online lending and paylater services is driven by materialistic tendencies such as compulsive buying, a propensity for debt, and ‘flexing’, as well as the phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) – the fear of appearing outdated on social media – which often leads Generation Z to view online lending as a quick alternative to sustain their lifestyle. Given this urgency, this Community Service (PkM) activity aims to enhance Generation Z’s understanding of digital credit risks through financial risk management training, an introduction to the mechanisms of online loans and paylater services, and the fostering of wiser financial behaviour. The partners for this activity are students from SMK Budi Perkasa in the Tambun area of Bekasi. The implementation of the PkM comprises three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The outcomes of the ‘ ’ PkM activity were evaluated using pre- and post-tests, and the results indicate that interactive and practical training is highly effective in enhancing participants’ knowledge of digital credit risk management. Overall, this PkM activity successfully achieved its set objectives and had a positive impact on changes in students’ financial knowledge and attitudes.

Abstract

This study examined how Village Funds (Dana Desa) were managed in Sambirejo Village, Prambanan, Sleman, to optimize Village Original Income (PADes) and strengthen community empowerment. The study used an exploratory qualitative design conducted from August to October 2025. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis involving seven key informants: the village head, village secretary, planning officer, finance officer, BUMDes manager, community leader, and a beneficiary group representative. The findings show that Sambirejo adopted a productive and participatory management strategy built on four pillars: (1) village-level planning from hamlet deliberation to Musrenbangdes and APBDes formulation; (2) capital strengthening for BUMDes and support for village tourism assets, especially Tebing Breksi; (3) community empowerment through UMKM training, mentoring, and market facilitation; and (4) transparency, monitoring, and evaluation through village information media and direct community oversight. Financial records indicate that BUMDes made a substantial contribution to PADes, while PADes-funded activities supported tourism maintenance, capacity building, community health, local culture, and business capital. The increase in PADes was associated with expanded job opportunities, improved basic services, stronger local entrepreneurship, and wider participation in village development. The main constraints were limited community initiative and regulatory rigidity in the use of village resources. The article contributes an empirically grounded model of village fund management that supports SDG 8 by linking local revenue growth with inclusive rural economic empowerment.

Abstract

Village-owned enterprises have been positioned as strategic instruments for strengthening local economic autonomy, yet many village enterprises in Indonesia still struggle to contribute meaningfully to village original revenue. This study examining how participatory-based management was implemented in BUM Kalurahan Tridadi Makmur, Sleman, and how such management supported the optimization of village original revenue. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving the enterprise director, supervisory board, village head, and members of the village consultative body. Data were analyzed using the Miles et al interactive model comprising data collection, condensation, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that effective management was built through four interrelated functions: participatory planning, adaptive organizing, business-oriented implementation, and continuous supervision. Community participation appeared not only in deliberative forums but also in labor involvement and capital participation. Quantitative institutional records indicate strong business growth from 2023 to 2024, including a 37% increase in total assets, a 30% increase in gross income, and a 541% increase in net income. However, annual transfers from the enterprise to village revenue fluctuated across 2018-2024, indicating that financial contribution depends on wider operational and strategic considerations, not merely business expansion. The major supporting factors were village government support, leadership, community participation, and pentahelix collaboration, whereas human-resource constraints and increasing business competition remained key obstacles. The article contributes an empirically grounded management model for strengthening village enterprises and supports SDG 8 by demonstrating how locally managed enterprises can expand productive employment and inclusive rural economic growth.
