Abstract

This study aims to 1) Produce the valid, practical, and effective of Realistic Mathematics Education based learning tools; 2) Analyzing the improvement of students' mathematical problem solving ability that are learned using Realistic Mathematics Education-based learning tools; and 3) Analyzing the achievement of students' self-efficacy who are taught using Realistic Mathematics Education-based learning tools. The subjects in this study were seventh grade students of Junior High School 1 Lubuk Pakam. Data collection instruments in this development are assessment instruments to assess the products that have been developed. In addition, students were given questionnaires to get data about students' Self-Efficacy. This research is Research and Development with the design of learning development models by Dick and Carey. The steps include: 1) Conducting preliminary research; 2) Making software design; 3) Collecting the materials; 4) Developing the contextual based interactive multimedia; 5) Product reviews and trials; and 6) the effectiveness of product test. The results showed Realistic Mathematics Education-based learning tools on students' mathematical problem solving ability increased from trial I to trial II with an average increase per indicator of 0.35%; 3.99%; 16.22% and 8.32%. The developed learning tool has fulfilled the effective criteria, namely the mastery learning of students classically in the first trial has reached a good category and in the second trial has reached a very good category; the achievement of student learning goals during learning activities meet the ideal criteria specified; student responses is positive to the components of learning tools and learning activities developed; and the allocation of ideal time usage.

Abstract

The development of a descriptive text assessment instrument must be considered in the regularity of the questions in accordance with the question grid. Based on the results of observations at Junior High School (SMP) Methodist Charles Wesley Medan, the teacher gave a questionnaire only in the form of essay questions (explanations) even though, in tests or tests carried out it was actually not just essays, but multiple choices. Feasibility of Higher Order Thinking Skill-Based Descriptive Text Assessment Instruments which is Developed on 7th Grade Students of Junior High School (SMP) Methodist Charles Wesley Medan is eligible and suitable for use in learning. Based on material experts, evaluation experts, Indonesian language teacher assessments and student responses

Abstract

This study aims to determine the history of the Ombilin Sawahlunto coal mine, the use of this site as a historical learning resource based on outdor learning and the obstacles it faces in its utilization. The method used in this research is qualitative with a descriptive approach. The sources used were interviews, literature and newspapers. After collecting the sources and separating the primary and secondary sources, rewrite them. The research results found that government projects in the city of sawahlunto consist of three projects including first, exploitation of coal mines, second, construction of railways, third, construction of the port of Emmahaven (Teluk Bayur). Traces of Dutch heritage that still exist today are the railway museum, Goedang Ranseum, Mbah Soero Mine Hole, and the Coal Mining Museum. This legacy can be used as a source of historical learning based on outdor learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how the difference between mathematical connections and self-efficacy between students who are given a realistic mathematics approach with an inquiry approach at Senior High School  2 Tanjung Morawa. The sample used in this study was Senior High School  2 Tanjung Morawa. With the method of collecting literature study data. The method used is literature study. The results of this study indicate that the overall approach to mathematics is realistic and inquiry, each of which has advantages and disadvantages, but in this study a good approach to use in students' ability to solve math problems is the inquiry approach, because with the inquiry approach students can be more active, and have ideas in solving math problems.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate how the notion of language as cultural practices which construct social and cultural products function in James Joyce selected short stories, The Grace and The Araby within the framework of cultural materialism. Language is major concern of cultural studies and language is as the symbol of power. Language in literary texts plays a major role in constructing meaning and reflecting the author`s intention. James Joyce could be placed among the most dominant cultural authors whose concern is the material life, social class, social identity and cultural crisis. As an outstanding author, Joyce is well known for his typical depiction, musical decoration as well as his sticking to proper cultural and social materials and issues such as religious matters. His selected short stories of Dubliners, revolve around the lifestyle of the Irish middle-class in Dublin around the late 1800s and early 1900s. James Joyce is not so much a writer as he is a painter of words. His works appear simplistic at first glance, but under analysis they reveal the inner world of a character and the reality of the common man through symbols, metaphors, and sensory analysis. Dublin is the city of silence which threads its way through the lives of the Dubliners, for this reason Joyce‘s characters are presented in a silent state. Such silence denotes the sterility of communication and the absence of the art of conversation. Most of Dubliners characters are portrayed as having the ability of verbal activity and they can speak, yet in most cases this ability fails them and they become tongue-tied .The only way which is left for them is speak in a whispering voice. In the modern age, life has completely changed and the city has become a modernized one. This latter is the epitome of such change that has a great effect upon the modern life, bringing with it the trauma and frustration of modern failure. Joyce’s attempts to harness the effects of language and, increasingly with time, languages, may arguably be selected as the feature of his writing which mostly conditioned its technical transformations. Language is only one of those practices implicated in the symptoms of the crisis of late capitalist society. Faced with the ideological mystification of personal lives, Raymond Williams stressed the imperative of establishing connections by emphasizing the role of means of communication, he speaks of "productive communication in shaping community.

Abstract

To determine the role of form-focused instruction on foreign language learners, this study demonstrates noticing necessary in foreign language learning. In other words, an instruction through input enhancement have an effect on foreign language learning.  The participants in the study were 80 students who enrolled in Shamim Language Institute, but only 60 intermediate learners were selected by means of administering a placement test. Based on the results of the placement test, two matched groups, one as the experimental group and the other as the comparison group, were formed. So, the study utilized the experimental paradigm and tested the notion of focusing on form (FonF) as input enhancement for learning. The enhanced text, including conditional sentences as the treatment, time (pretest versus posttest), and task type (a multiple choice test and a cloze test) were used to conduct the study. The participants in control (FonM) group received the unenhanced text and discussed the topic in that session. And experimental group (FonF) concurrently received the same text enhanced and discussed it. To compare the means and the standard deviations of the pretest and the post-test tasks within the treatment, the researcher used T-Test. The results showed that type of instructional treatment led to differences in language learning in the short-term. The scores of the participants demonstrated that the experimental group outperformed the comparison group.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the contribution lecturers’ pedagogical competences, intellectual intelligence and self-efficacy of student learning motivation. The analysis technique in this study is a multiple regression and comparison technique. It observes the relationship or influence among three variables. The sample of this study consisted of 30 students. The validity test results for each variable of lecturer pedagogical competence, intellectual intelligence, self-efficacy, and student learning motivation are valid, while the reliability of each variable is all reliable. The research findings show that the results of the analysis obtained the price of Fhit = 371,862, db = (3.26), p-value = 0,000 <0.05, Ho is rejected. The price of R2 = 0.977, Fhit = 371,862, db = (3.26) p-value = 0,000 <0.05 or Ho is rejected. The contribution of lecturers 'pedagogical competence, intellectual intelligence and self-efficacy to students' learning motivation is 0.977 or 97.7%. Thus, lecturers' pedagogical competence, intellectual intelligence and self-efficacy simultaneously influence student learning motivation.
