Abstract

This study examines the impact of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and family ownership on financial risk. While existing literature offers mixed evidence on how ESG affects financial risk, it remains unclear whether family-owned firms known for their long-term orientation and socioemotional wealth goals, which align closely with ESG principles are better able to mitigate financial risk. To address this gap, we introduce a novel framework that incorporates family ownership into the analysis of the ESG–financial risk relationship, with a particular focus on Indonesian firms. Using a fixed‑effects model, panel regression on 462 firm‑year observations, we find that stronger ESG performance is associated with lower financial risk. However, our investigation results show that family ownership is not correlated with financial risk, while also reinforcing our finding that family ownership unable to moderate the relationship between ESG and financial risk. This finding will help investors and portfolio managers evaluate how ESG, ESG controversies, and ownership structure influence a firm’s financial risk, and will assist them in making better investment decisions.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of firm size and corporate social responsibility (CSR) on tax avoidance among companies in Indonesia's consumer non-cyclicals sector, a subject gaining importance amid growing scrutiny of corporate tax practices. Integrating agency theory and legitimacy theory, the research aims to understand how external oversight and the pursuit of social legitimacy shape tax behavior, particularly in a context that remains underexplored in Indonesia. Utilizing a quantitative approach, the study analyzes panel data from 30 companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the period 2019 to 2023. Tax avoidance is proxied by the effective tax rate (ETR), CSR is measured using a GRI-based disclosure index, and firm size is assessed through the natural logarithm of total assets. Multiple linear regression was employed following model selection and classical assumption testing. The findings reveal that CSR has a significant negative effect on tax avoidance, whereas firm size does not exhibit a partial effect. However, both variables jointly influence tax avoidance significantly. These results underscore the role of CSR in promoting ethical corporate behavior and suggest that regulators and stakeholders should actively encourage CSR initiatives to enhance tax compliance and corporate transparency.

Abstract

Background: The elderly, defined as individuals aged 60 years and older, experience various physiological changes associated with aging. One significant change is the decline in bodily functions, which affects the body's ability to adapt to the environment and often leads to impaired balance. This condition increases the risk of falls, making fall prevention efforts essential. One such effort is the Otago Home Exercise Programme (OHEP), a structured balance and strength training intervention. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of OHEP on fall risk in the elderly. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with two groups and pretest–post-test. The samples involving 60 participants selected through purposive sampling. The intervention was conducted three times a week for three weeks, and fall risk was measured using the Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT). Data were analysed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: Results showed a significant reduction in fall risk in the intervention group, with high risk decreasing from 10% to 0%, moderate risk from 90% to 80%, and an increase in low risk from 0% to 20% (p = 0.000). Conclusion: It can be concluded that OHEP is effective in reducing fall risk among the elderly and is recommended for wider implementation in elderly care settings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the morphosyntactic forms and semantic meanings of English tenses in students’ utterances across three study programs: Law, Management, and Information Systems at Universitas Murni Teguh. Data were collected from 43 respondents through 40 grammar test items covering four tense categories: Present, Past, Present Perfect, and Future. Findings show that students’ understanding of tense structures varied. The highest mastery was found in the Past and Future tenses, while the most common errors appeared in the Present Perfect Tense. Morphologically, students generally understood basic subject–verb agreement but struggled with consistency in auxiliary verb usage and temporal alignment. Semantically, errors were mainly caused by first language interference (Indonesian) and limited exposure to English in academic contexts. This study emphasizes the importance of meaning-based and contextual grammar instruction that integrates both form and meaning, enabling students, particularly from non-language disciplines, to use tenses accurately in academic and professional communication.

Abstract

Introducing vocabulary to kindergarten children is difficult, especially for foreign languages. They need clear visuals to illustrate a word. Based on the researcher's experience at BiMBA Kindergarten, students were less interested and less motivated in learning English because the learning methods and media were less interesting. Therefore, the researcher aims to conduct this study to assess the effectiveness of the methods and media used on vocabulary mastery. This research was conducted at BiMBA Genuksari with a sample of 30 kindergarten students. A quantitative research method was applied using a pre-experimental design with a pre-test, post-test, and observation as data collection. The results showed the statistical analysis using a paired sample t-test produced a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant difference after treatment. The observation results also showed that students' learning motivation increased after treatment. Therefore, teachers can use flashcards and dragon games to create an engaging and student-centered learning environment. Keywords : Dragon Game, Flashcard, Vocabulary
