Abstract

Education partnerships (EP) between local education authorities (LEAs) and universities including teacher training institutes (LPTK) are seen as sine qua non to improve and develop the service and quality of education. EP is one key strategy to leverage education improvement initiatives in the current education reform and decentralisation. This paper presents the description of EP that exists between Makassar State University as LPTK and all LEAs in the province of South Sulawesi as well as to see the constraints and needs for partnerships in developing and improving education services and quality at local level. A quantitative method by using survey design was employed. A total population sampling was applied to 24 LEAs in the province of South Sulawesi who completed a 21-item questionnaire regarding the research variables. LEA in general have positive perception and attitude towards the importance and power of EP in their efforts to develop and improve education in their regions. The findings reveal EP between LEAs and LPTK have existed and manifested in various education improvement activities. However, there is a discrepancy between the actual needs of LEAs and the existing activities/programs in the current EP. In conclusion, EP is a promising strategy for education improvement, but it is undeveloped in its process and implementation.

Abstract

The dichotomy of retention versus promotion in education is persistent. It is a high stake decision teachers, administrators, and policymakers have to make. This article critically reviewed the die-hard retention factors and looked at alternative ways to deal with them. It emphasizes that the approach to repeating grades cannot be taken frivolously. Teachers, administrators, and policy makers' decisions will not only have life-long effects for the individuals upon whom they are placed, but they will undoubtedly affect the future societies as a whole. This article suggested that both teachers and administrators have the vital and deciding power to elect which approach to take, contextualizing curricula and professional development training sensitive to grade retention issues. Educational administrators and teachers must have the insight to recognize the failures and the courage to accept new ways to deal with old problems.

Abstract

Learning applied in Indonesia from elementary school to undergraduate level generally uses face-to-face or direct learning methods. However, after the Covid-19 disease outbreak, all methods change to online learning methods at all levels and cultures. This affects all aspects of learning such as comfort, understanding and learning outcomes. To find out the difference in the results using face-to-face methods and online methods, a study was carried out on classifying learning media users from elementary school to university level using the k-means method. This study aimed to determine the differences in learning outcomes between the semester before the Covid-19 pandemic and the semester during the Covid-19 pandemic which applies online learning. The results of grouping data on online learning media users showed that all levels of education were considered sufficiently ready to implement online learning. As well as cultural differences in Indonesia have not had an impact on the commitment of schools to implement online learning during the Covid-19 disease outbreak.

Abstract

Studies on the differences in the use of language by men and women are indeed very limited when viewed from a purely biological tendency. In fact, many studies have found that men's language is different from women's language socio-politically and culturally. This difference is constructed by the social order that is closely related to the problem of domination of power in the relationship between men and women. The study of gender differences in language under descriptive perspective aims to reveal the facts of social life in term of differences in roles and relations between women and men in the use of language. In addition, this research also discusses the perspective of moral values education, especially those from the Qur'an regarding the differences between women and men in terms of language use.
