Abstract

In this study we address and investigate university students’ perspective on utilizing online learning in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic. This research used qualitative descriptive method. The subject of this research were the learners of Elementary School Teacher Education, Physical Education, Sociology Education and English Education Department of Universitas Megarezky in 2019/2020 academic year. The number of respondents was 40 respondents. The research instruments were questionnaire that was obtained by google form through analyzing participants’ response to know their perspective in using online learning and in-depth interview.  The study showed that previously, students did not use online learning before the pandemic because learning was conducted in the classroom. In the midst of covid-19 pandemic, the students are interested in using online learning in which can be accessed flexible, anywhere and everywhere. The best application used by lecturers and students was WhatsApp application. It can be concluded that the students’ perspective on online learning had a positive impact in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest multicultural countries in the world. This reality can be seen through the diverse and extensive socio-cultural and geographical conditions. This study aims to investigate the implementation of the Inside-Outside Circle (IOC) instructional model for the multicultural education. This research used qualitative and quantitative methods. Methods of data collection using observation, interviews and literature study. The results showed that multicultural education can be used as a strategic instrument to develop awareness of one's pride in one's ethnic group. Multicultural education is also very relevant to a pluralistic society such as Indonesia, which emphasizes an understanding of multi-ethnicity, multi-religion, and multiculturalism which requires a new construction of justice, equality and a democratic society. The application of integrative multicultural education can use a cooperative learning model, namely the Inside-Outside Circle (IOC) linstructional model and the application of multicultural education in an integrated curriculum with other subjects such as in the Sociology Education program.

Abstract

Verbal interactions will occur when both the teacher/lecturer and learners could completely understand what each other means. It happens verbally among the teacher and learners during the teaching learning activity (Mardiana et al., 2019). This study was mainly conducted to examine the University students’ perception on verbal interaction through WhatsApp chat group. This study used qualitative descriptive method was used to achieve the objective of this study. Observation and a questionnaire were adopted as tools for data collection. A total number of samples was 14 English as a Foreign Language learners in university students. The analysis of the data revealed that university students’ perception on verbal interaction gave the positive feedback towards WhatsApp chat group. This proves that ordinarily learners selected agree with utilizing WhatsApp chat group in doing verbal interaction. Hence, utilizing of WhatsApp chat group can be recommended as an efficient technique in verbal interaction for teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to develop local content reading books for the history of Wajo in an effort to add insight for educators and students from aspects of local history in Wajo Regency. The development of reading books follows 3 (three) stages from 4 (four) stages of development in the Four D development model. The research subjects consisted of validators as media experts and material experts, two history teachers as practitioners, and 60 students as a test subject. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and interviews, which were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results of the study showed that: students needed interesting history learning and motivated students to learn more about history so there was a need for reading books that support learning the history of local content in the Wajo Region. Local history was seen as more interesting because it was more contextual than national history. The development of teaching material for the history of Wajo was realized into a digital book (e-book) through the stages of validation and testing to determine the level of practicality. The validity of reading books was carried out by validation by teaching material experts, media experts and Wajo historians. The practicality of this reading book reaches 75.22% in the good category so that it is suitable for use and does not need revision.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the lecturers’ and students’ response on independent learning - independent campus (MBKM) in teaching and learning English. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis to examine the opinions of lecturers and students. The research sample was only 7 lecturers and 12 students who had passed in independent learning - independent campus program. Data was collected through surveys in the form of response questionnaires distributed to lecturers and students who have joined the program which purpose was to measure the success of MBKM activity process. The results show that there was a good understanding of students, several lecturers regarding policies of MBKM Program that have been chosen by the students namely student exchange, teaching assistant in an educational unit and build villages/thematic community service program have good response for the students. It can be concluded that MBKM program properly implemented, graduates with both hard and soft skills (speaking, writing and reading) who are prepared to face the world of work on their own, creatively, and toughly especially teaching and learning English
