Abstract

The increasingly complex environmental and social crises demand a renewed educational paradigm that integrates technology, pedagogy, and epistemological reflection. This study aims to map and analyze literature related to the integration of AI-based progressive practices, philosophy of science perspectives, and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The method used is a literature study employing a narrative literature review approach, drawing from journal articles, research reports, and recent academic publications. The findings indicate that the implementation of AI in progressive practices can enhance learning experiences through personalization, scientific exploration, and realistic simulations of environmental problems. Perspectives from the philosophy of science provide epistemological and axiological frameworks for understanding the concept of “sustainable knowledge,” particularly concerning information validity, scientific rationality, and ethical considerations in the use of technology. The literature mapping identifies three main themes: (1) the use of AI to strengthen student agency and problem-based learning; (2) the contribution of the philosophy of science in shaping how students construct knowledge about sustainability; and (3) implementation challenges related to technological bias, ethics, and digital access gaps. This review affirms that the integration of AI-supported progressive practices grounded in the philosophy of science has the potential to serve as a conceptual model for advancing sustainable education in Indonesia

Abstract

This study analyzes the phenomenon of the creation of a new ontological order as a consequence of technology based on the thinking of Jacques Ellul. Ellul asserts that technology does not only encompass tools, but is a principle of efficiency pursued by humans and determines the direction of their actions. Technology has become the main force behind technology and the creation of modernity. Technology has entered various aspects of human life and created a technological system. Using a literature review method, this study examines how the technological system creates a new ontological order that ultimately influences the way humans exist. This study finds that the ontological order created by technology binds and constrains humans. Humans are unconsciously directed and forced to follow the demands of the technical system in order to live their lives and function in society. Humans think they are free subjects, but in reality, they are controlled by technical logic. This study shows that the main problem experienced by humans is not merely the visible development of technology, but also the new ontological order created by technology that influences the basic structure of human existence in the world. This study is expected to contribute to the philosophical understanding of technology and serve as a wake-up call regarding the importance of critical awareness in living a modern life today.

Abstract

This article examines the integration of emotional intelligence with the principles of humanistic philosophy as a comprehensive approach in modern educational practice. The background of this study is rooted in the demands of 21st-century education, which emphasize not only cognitive abilities but also social-emotional competencies that shape learners’ character and humanity. The purpose of this study is to describe the nature of emotional intelligence, elaborate the principles of humanism in education, and analyze the conceptual relationship between the two as a foundation for developing more humanistic and learner-centered learning approaches. This study employs a literature review method, drawing on various up-to-date sources relevant to humanism, educational psychology, and emotional intelligence. The findings indicate that emotional intelligence plays a significant role in fostering self-regulation, empathy, and learners’ interpersonal skills, while humanistic philosophy provides ethical and pedagogical foundations that emphasize respect for human dignity, freedom, and potential. The integration of these two perspectives results in an educational model that positions learners as active, autonomous subjects who develop holistically. In instructional practice, this integration can be implemented through the strengthening of emotionally safe learning environments, self-reflective practices, positive interpersonal relationships, collaborative learning, and teachers’ emotional role modeling. In conclusion, humanism-based emotional intelligence is highly urgent in modern education, as it effectively addresses challenges related to character development, emotional maturity, and the quality of social relationships in learning. This article offers both a conceptual foundation and practical direction for educators in developing a more humanistic, inclusive, and contemporary learning ecosystem.

Abstract

This research begins with the issue of the assumption of language neutrality in scientific and political discourse, particularly in state speeches, which in practice contain certain identity and ideological constructions. This study aims to analyze how metaphors and modalities function in constructing collective identity representations and affirming the ideological orientation of the state through the language of state speeches. The research uses an interpretive qualitative approach by combining linguistic hermeneutics and Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis model. The research data consists of the text of the state speech of the President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the joint session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) in 2025, obtained through official text documentation. Data analysis was carried out in stages at the textual level, discourse practice, and social practice. The results show that metaphors are used to frame social reality and state policy in a normative and persuasive manner, while modalities play a role in establishing the authority of the speaker and legitimizing the position and institutional actions of the state. The integration of hermeneutics and Critical Discourse Analysis allows for the disclosure of ideological meanings that are not visible on the surface of the text, while simultaneously revealing the power relations at work in the production of state discourse. This study concludes that language in state speeches is not neutral, but rather functions as an ideological instrument in the formation of meaning, identity, and political legitimacy

Abstract

Modern education is often trapped in a monologic communication pattern that positions students as passive objects, a phenomenon that stifles critical thinking and creativity. This article aims to reconstruct the foundations of pedagogy through a dialogue-based educational approach by integrating three main philosophical pillars: Socratic Dialogue, Hermeneutics, and Dialectics. This research uses a literature study method with a qualitative approach. Socratic Dialogue is used to stimulate inquiry through the art of asking questions; Hermeneutics is used to deepen the process of interpretation and understanding of meaning; while Dialectics is used as a means to achieve knowledge synthesis through conflicting ideas. The results of the study show that the integration of these three pillars can shift the learning paradigm from mere information transfer to a collaborative truth-seeking process. This article concludes that interactive discussion is not merely a methodological choice, but an existential necessity to humanize students and revive the spirit of education as an effort to cultivate intellectual intelligence.

Abstract

This article discusses the relevance of Imam al-Ghazali's thoughts in Tahafut al-Falasifah to the discourse on modern urban geography, environment, and sustainability. The problem addressed in this research stems from the reality that environmental crises, urban disasters, and spatial injustice cannot be solved solely through a technocratic approach, but require a solid epistemological and spiritual ethical foundation. The purpose of this research is to describe al-Ghazali's epistemology, explain his critique of natural determinism, and interpret his contribution to strengthening ecological ethics and moral spatial governance. This research employs a conceptual study method based on library research, utilising a review of the classical text Tahafut al-Falasifah, Islamic philosophy literature, critical geography, and contemporary urban studies. The analysis was conducted using a hermeneutic-philosophical approach to produce a conceptual synthesis relevant to the modern context. The research findings indicate that al-Ghazali's critique of determinism opens the door for rejecting environmental determinism while simultaneously affirming human moral responsibility in space management. His thinking reunites the spiritual and material dimensions in urban life and offers a basis for ecological ethics rooted in monotheism. The conclusion of the research states that al-Ghazali's thinking provides a significant philosophical framework for the development of just, sustainable, and spiritually grounded cities.

Abstract

The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) in Indonesia requires an ethical framework guided by the values of national identity, in addition to technical effectiveness. The UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of AI and the EU AI Act, among others, provide important guidelines at both technical and legal levels. However, they are Western-oriented, secular, and individualistic in their paradigms. An axiological gap occurs between such frameworks when applied to communal societies with transcendental responsibility like Indonesia.[1] This study offers an alternative ethical framework for AI based on the five principles of Pancasila. [2] through qualitative philosophical research using hermeneutics analysis, wherein current international normative orders on AIs are critically compared vis-à-vis the values embodied within Pancasila. The results suggest a framework of "Digital Humanism" as: 1) theocentric accountability (First Principle), 2) preservation of human dignity from digital reductionism (Second Principle), 3) prevention of algorithmic polarization to develop social cohesion (Third Principle), 4) XAI-Explainable Artificial Intelligence fosters deliberative democracy (Fourth Principle), and sharing technological benefits to prevent data monopolies (Fifth Principle). Finally, this study discovered that Pancasila is very much needed as a moral compass to ensure that Indonesia's digital transformation is humanistic, culturally oriented, and social.

Abstract

This article aims to critically elaborate the concepts of moral asymmetry and the heuristic of fear in Hans Jonas’s ethics of responsibility, and to assess their relevance as a normative framework for addressing contemporary ecological and technological crises. The advancement of technology, industrialization, and development has multiplied the causal power of modern humanity, producing impacts that are long-term, transgenerational, and often irreversible. This situation exposes the limitations of classical moral ethics, which remain oriented toward present, reciprocal, and short-term intersubjective relations. The fundamental philosophical problem that arises is how moral obligations can be imposed on present agents with regard to subjects who have not yet been born and who lack the capacity to defend their own interests. This study employs a normative philosophical analysis using conceptual and hermeneutic approaches to Hans Jonas’s major work, particularly The Imperative of Responsibility, complemented by a limited dialogue with utilitarianism and contractualism. The analysis demonstrates that moral asymmetry highlights a structural imbalance between present moral agents and future affected parties, thereby generating obligations that are unilateral and non-reciprocal. Meanwhile, the heuristic of fear functions as a rational tool for evaluating existential risks under conditions of radical uncertainty, by prioritizing the prevention of irreversible destruction over short-term benefit calculations. This article affirms that Hans Jonas’s ethics is not an ethic of pessimism or irrational fear, but rather an ethic of existential prudence that is highly relevant for articulating intergenerational responsibility in environmental ethics, the philosophy of technology, and the normative foundations of public policy.

Abstract

The Bhagavadgītā is one of the sacred scriptures of Hinduism that contains practical teachings serving as guidance for humanity to unite with the Creator through the path of yoga (yoga mārga). The Bhagavadgītā outlines four paths of yoga; however, among these four (bhakti, karma, jñāna, and rāja yoga). Hindus generally tend to practice the path of bhakti. This path is considered relatively easier to implement compared to the other three. This tendency is particularly evident among Hindu communities living outside Bali, many of whom do not possess or formally study Hindu scriptures, such as Hindu transmigrants residing in Hanjak Maju Village, Kahayan Hilir District, Pulang Pisau Regency. In this context, devotional practices are often performed merely as habitual offerings to God, without a comprehensive understanding of the philosophical essence of bhakti as prescribed in the scriptures. Based on this condition, the present study aims to analyze the gap between the textual teachings of the Bhagavadgītā and their contextual implementation among Hindus in Hanjak Maju Village. This research employs a field research design using a descriptive qualitative approach. The findings indicate that the philosophy of bhakti as taught in the Bhagavadgītā has been concretely internalized in the lives of the Hindu community in Hanjak Maju Village, despite their limited textual understanding of the Bhagavadgītā. Hindus have been able to implement bhakti across various dimensions of life, including personal, familial, social, and religious spheres. These practices are highly consistent with the teachings of the Bhagavadgītā.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the ethical dilemmas frequently experienced by scientists in the fields of industry and the military. When confronted with conflicting values, scientists are required to make moral decisions in which choosing one value entails sacrificing another value that is equally important. Such dilemmas bring together deontological obligations to tell the truth, utilitarian considerations regarding the greatest benefit for society, and the demands of virtue ethics, which emphasize integrity and moral responsibility. The tension between scientific openness and the interests of the majority or institutional priorities constitutes the core of ethical dilemmas in contemporary scientific practice. Through a critical-philosophical research method grounded in the ideas of David B. Resnik, this study seeks to uncover various ethical violations, such as data fabrication, the misuse of research subjects, and involvement in destructive research that exacerbates the crisis of public trust in science. The findings indicate that standards of ethical conduct are crucial, as science is a collaborative practice that depends on trust, both among researchers and between science and society. In industrial and military contexts, ethical principles such as honesty, transparency, and freedom often clash with demands for confidentiality driven by commercial interests and national security concerns. Although confidentiality may be justified in certain contexts, it is not absolute; whistleblowing can be morally justified when it aims to prevent public harm. Furthermore, confidentiality in industrial and military science carries ideological and political dimensions that have the potential to reinforce economic hegemony and the concentration of state power. This study concludes that strengthening the principles of scientific ethics, accompanied by effective mechanisms of public oversight, is key to maintaining the integrity of science
