Abstract

Water scarcity has influenced economic, social, cultural, and behavioral development, making it a global concern. This study approaches the crisis not merely as a technical or politico-economic issue as emphasized in previous water justice studies but as an ethical problem. Drawing on Spinoza’s metaphysics of biospheric egalitarianism and collective rationality, it develops the concept of water ethics, which regards water as an entity possessing intrinsic value and the right to exist. Using the interpretivist philosophical method, the study finds that all entities, including water, are modifications of a single substance endowed with conatus—the drive to preserve existence and relate to others on egalitarian terms. From this perspective, the study proposes three fundamental dimensions of water ethics: eco-justice, water rights, and water democracy, forming the basis for a new paradigm that guides humanity toward an ethics of coexistence within the biosphere. It concludes that addressing the water crisis requires a paradigmatic shift from the distributive justice framework of water justice to an ethical awareness of the existence and rights of non-human entities within water ethics.

Abstract

Automation of organizational decision-making reshapes authenticity, freedom, and responsibility within the organization. These automated decision-making systems risk creating legal and ethical issues, eroding the transparency, accountability, and integrity of organizational decisions. This study aims to examine authenticity, freedom, and ethics in the use of organizational decision-making automation. The method of philosophical conceptual analysis is used to examine moral responsibility in automated decision-making. Van de Poel's attributive account is used to assess how explanation, justification, and contestation are operationalized in algorithmic systems within legal frameworks and stakeholder roles. The results of the study reveal the importance of proper legal and ethical protection to maintain authenticity and freedom in the automation of organizational decision-making. The study concludes that epistemic, legal, and ethical considerations are essential for preserving authenticity and freedom in organizational decisions. Its contribution lies in advancing a comprehensive epistemological-ethical framework that integrates both theoretical understanding and practical governance of decision-making automation in organizations.

Abstract

This study attempts to address existential issues related to self-authenticity in the context of social media. Social media is characterised by existential problems that have the potential to prevent humans from finding their authentic selves. For Heidegger, the authentic self is one that is courageous and capable of being oneself through deep reflection amid the various offers of self-identity that one encounters. Social media has another impact, making it easy for humans to surrender their self-image to digital media algorithms. The problem that arises is the loss of self-integrity between the factual world and the virtual world. The purpose of this study is to expand the constellation of discussions about the authentic self in Heidegger's thinking, particularly in the context of the issue of self-authenticity on social media. To achieve this, this research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method by conducting a literature study that supports the study in this research. The recommendations from the research found that Heidegger's views are relevant to answering the issue of self-authenticity by continuously striving to explore and find existential meaning in real life experiences.

Abstract

Inclusive education is an educational paradigm that places all students as individuals who have equal rights, dignity, and learning opportunities without differentiating physical, intellectual, social, and cultural conditions. From the perspective of educational philosophy, inclusive education is not only interpreted as a policy of accepting children with special needs (ABK) in general schools, but as an effort to build a humanistic, democratic, and equitable education system through respect for human diversity. This study aims to analyze the problems of inclusive education at SMAN 4 Jambi City from the perspective of educational philosophy. The novelty of this research lies in the philosophical analysis of inclusive education through ontological, epistemological, and axiological dimensions at the high school level, which has so far been studied more from the aspects of policy and implementation. The state of the art of previous research focuses on inclusive education management, teacher competence, and adaptive learning, while the research gap of this study shows the limited study of inclusive education philosophy that integrates aspects of student existence, construction of learning knowledge, and human values in the practice of inclusive education. This research employed a qualitative research method with a case study approach. Data collection included observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, followed by data

Abstract

Oil palm expansion in Jambi has generated ecological, social, and epistemological crises affecting the marginalization of the Suku Anak Dalam (SAD). This study examines the issue through environmental philosophy and science education by positioning Indigenous knowledge as a foundation for ecological justice. The research employed a qualitative-critical approach through philosophical analysis, literature review, and ethnographic perspectives. Findings reveal that oil palm expansion not only causes deforestation and biodiversity loss but also erodes Indigenous ecological knowledge systems. In contrast, Jambi coffee agroforestry represents a harmonious relationship between humans and nature that supports environmental sustainability. The study emphasizes that integrating local knowledge, metacognitive values, and environmental ethics into science education can foster ecological awareness, critical thinking, and students’ moral responsibility. Philosophically, this research contributes to strengthening science education grounded in ecological justice and epistemic pluralism in the Anthropocene era.

Abstract

Communication science is a scientific discipline that studies the principles of information delivery and opinion formation in society. Philosophy plays a crucial role as a foundation for science and an integral part of life, including communication. Through an axiological framework, the philosophy of science examines communication from the perspective of ethical and aesthetic values, thus providing a foundation for determining the goals, methods, and impacts of communication. However, communication practices in society often do not optimally apply the axiological dimension. This study aims to analyze the essence of communication from an axiological perspective and to examine its implications within communication. The method used is a conceptual-philosophical study based on literature. The results of the study indicate that axiology plays a crucial role in communication, thus achieving good, effective communication and a harmonious society

Abstract

This study critically examines the thought of Diogenes of Sinope as a radical expression of Cynic philosophy that challenges social conventions, materialism, and authority as foundations of human life. Employing a qualitative approach through critical-philosophical analysis and interpretive hermeneutics, this study does not aim to measure phenomena empirically but rather to interpret, critique, and conceptually evaluate Diogenes’ ideas and their relevance to the philosophy of science and fashion studies as a cultural system. The study reinterprets Diogenes’ views within the framework of modern philosophy of science while relating them to contemporary issues in fashion as a system of cultural values. The analysis demonstrates that Diogenes’ critique is significant as a marker of the dangers of dogmatism, the commodification of knowledge, and the domination of social norms. However, the extremity of his position generates ethical contradictions that cannot be directly applied to scientific practice or fashion. A total rejection of norms and materiality neglects the social, institutional, and psychological dimensions essential to the production of knowledge and the construction of identity through fashion. This study concludes that Diogenes’ thought is more appropriately positioned as a corrective ethical framework rather than an epistemological model, and that its relevance to fashion lies in encouraging reflective, ethical, and humanistic practices without falling into nihilism or anti-structuralism. The main finding of this research indicates that Diogenes’ thought does not function as an epistemological model but operates as an ethical-corrective critique of dogmatism, the institutionalization of knowledge, and the commodification of values, thereby enriching philosophical reflection in the philosophy of science and contemporary visual culture. This study offers a conceptual contribution by bridging the discourse between philosophy of science and fashion, while expanding the understanding of radical critique as a foundation for value transformation in contemporary visual culture.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between Pancasila philosophy and Sundanese philosophical values, particularly the meanings of Silih Asih, Silih Asah, and Silih Asuh within the educational context. The research emphasizes how these three values reflect the fundamental principles of Pancasila in shaping individuals who are faithful, intelligent, and socially responsible through a spirit of mutual cooperation. The research method employed is a literature study using a hermeneutic approach, focusing on interpreting the philosophical and moral meanings found in Sundanese cultural texts and Pancasila philosophy literature. The analysis technique involves interpretation, understanding of meaning, and reflection on the relevance of these values in modern educational practice. The findings reveal that Silih Asih, Silih Asah, and Silih Asuh correspond with the divine, humanistic, unity, deliberative, and justice values of Pancasila. The integration of these values in education can strengthen students’ character to become empathetic, critical, and socially ethical individuals, making education not only a medium of knowledge transmission but also a foundation for character formation rooted in national culture.

Abstract

This article examines the recontextualization of Tan Malaka's Madilog in fostering rational-scientific reasoning within the contemporary digital society. The YouTube channel "MALAKA" serves as a philosophical discourse space that challenges established public thinking patterns. This study aims to analyze how Madilog's ideas are mediated, reinterpreted, and debated by audiences within the virtual public sphere. Employing a netnographic approach and content analysis of videos and user comments on the MALAKA channel, this research maps the dynamics of public reception toward dialectical materialism and logic. The findings reveal a spectrum of contradictory responses: ranging from support for scientific rationality and philosophical dialogue to resistance rooted in persistent mystical beliefs. This study demonstrates that the recontextualization of Madilog on YouTube has successfully transformed philosophy into an integral part of contemporary public conversation, enhancing intellectual accessibility while simultaneously creating a tension between scientific reason and local cultural constructs in the digital realm.

Abstract

Rationality is a key aspect in the development of modern Islamic thought, particularly in responding to social dynamics and the advancement of contemporary science. However, studies on modern Islamic rationality are still predominantly dominated by normative-legalistic approaches and tend to overlook the philosophical dimension as their epistemological foundation. This gap has limited the exploration of how the relationship between reason, revelation, and historical context can be constructed in an integrative manner within the framework of modern Islamic thought. Based on this gap, this study aims to critically analyze the contribution of philosophy in shaping modern Islamic rationality through the thought of Fazlur Rahman, particularly in constructing an epistemological synthesis between reason, revelation, and history. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, along with descriptive-critical analysis of Fazlur Rahman’s works and relevant literature. The findings indicate that philosophy functions not only as a tool of reflection but also as an epistemological framework that enables the reconstruction of Islamic rationality in a more contextual and ethical manner. Through a historical-philosophical approach and the concept of ethical rationality, Fazlur Rahman constructs a dialectical relationship between reason and revelation that is complementary rather than antagonistic. The novelty of this research lies in emphasizing philosophy as an epistemological foundation in developing an integrative modern Islamic rationality, thereby moving beyond textualistic approaches toward an understanding oriented to universal moral values and the objectives of Islamic law (maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah)
