Abstract

Kata Kunci: Budaya Patriarki; Feminisme; Representasi Perempuan; Novel Ahlamun-Nisa'i Al-Harim; Fatima Mernissi.

Abstract

Humans essentially possess a personal life that involves inner conflicts within themselves. A person’s attitudes and actions are the result of the psychological struggles that occur within their mind. This is reflected in the character of Said Mahran, the protagonist in Al-Liṣṣ wa al-Kilāb (The Thief and the Dogs) by Naguib Mahfouz. This study aims to examine the personality structure of the main character and to identify the internal and external factors underlying his personality conflict in the novel. The research found the presence of the elements of the Id, Ego, and Superego, which contribute to the protagonist’s personality conflict in The Thief and the Dogs. The personality structure consisting of the Id, Ego, and Superego forms an individual’s personality and determines the attitudes and actions taken by that individual. Keywords: Personality Psychology, Literature, Main Character.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of patriarchy and female resistance through the character of Fathiya in Yusuf Idris’s short story An-Nadahah (1962). Employing Kate Millett’s radical feminist theory, the research analyzes how patriarchal domination operates through sexual violence, male passivity, and the internalization of oppressive values within female consciousness. Using a qualitative approach with close reading techniques, the findings reveal that patriarchy functions not only as an external system of male domination, embodied by Afandi’s sexual violence, but also through Hamed’s silence and failure as a husband. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that Fathiya internalizes patriarchal norms that frame silence, shame, and self-sacrifice as moral imperatives. This analysis highlights how patriarchy controls women both structurally and psychologically, reinforcing the relevance of radical feminist theory in literary criticism. Keywords: Patriarchy, Radical Feminism, and Yusuf Idris’s Short Story “An-Nadahah”

Abstract

Background: In Palestinian literature, the olive tree symbolizes identity, memory, and resistance. However, the role of human metaphors as a cognitive strategy of rehumanization in Mahmoud Darwish's Syajarah al-Zaitūn al-Sāniyah remains underexplored.. Purpose: This study investigates how human metaphors construct rehumanization through a cognitive semantic perspective. Method: Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study analyzes metaphorical expressions in the poem based on Michael C. Haley's metaphor hierarchy through cognitive mapping and thematic interpretation. Results: Seven human metaphors were identified, portraying the olive tree as an entity with emotional, social, ethical, and moral agency. These metaphors form a coherent cognitive structure that represents steadfastness, historical legitimacy, and dignified resistance against colonial dehumanization Conclusion: Human metaphors function not merely as literary devices but as a cognitive strategy of rehumanization, contributing to cognitive semantic studies and modern Arabic resistance literature. Keywords: Human Metaphor, Syajarah al-Zaitūn al-Sāniyah, Mahmoud Darwish, cognitive semantics, Rehumanization.

Abstract

This study examines how Yusuf al-Siba‘i’s Naib Izrail turns death into a narrative mechanism that destabilizes the legitimacy of office, honor, and public recognition. Previous studies have identified its religious messages, social criticism, representation of the Angel of Death, and authorial subjectivity, but have not explained how the novel withdraws symbolic recognition from dominant actors. Using Pierre Bourdieu’s concepts of doxa, symbolic capital, symbolic power, and legitimate language, the study applies qualitative close reading to narration, dialogue, characterization, and episodes involving Yusuf, Izrail, elites, and ordinary people. The findings show that worldly authority is constructed as a doxic order that misrecognizes status as moral worth; Izrail’s authorized speech reverses human hierarchies; death prevents elite capital from converting into immunity; and fantastic satire exposes manipulation, materialism, and governmental abuse. Death is therefore not symbolic power itself, but a counter-classificatory device that interrupts doxa and reveals human legitimacy as contingent within society.

Abstract

Background: Articulation errors remain a major challenge for Indonesian learners of Arabic due to differences in speech organ coordination and phonological systems. Purpose: The usual sections defined in a structured abstract are Background, Purpose, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. This paragraph should not be indented. Method: A qualitative Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted by analyzing ten national and international journal articles on Arabic phonetics published between 2016 and 2024.. Results: Five error types were identified: substitution, omission, addition, distortion, and vowel duration errors. The most frequent errors involve pharyngeal, uvular, emphatic, and interdental sounds. These errors result from limited articulatory control and L1 phonological interference, which interact through reinforcement and error fossilization. Conclusion: Arabic pronunciation errors are shaped by physiological and linguistic factors; therefore, pronunciation instruction should integrate makhārij al-ḥurūf training with cross-linguistic phonemic awareness Keywords: articulation errors, physiological factors, mother tongue, phonological interference, Arabic phonetics.
