Abstract

Stunting remains a significant public health challenge in Deli Serdang Regency, often exacerbated by low health literacy and linguistic barriers in understanding global nutritional information. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) program in improving nutritional understanding among families with stunted children in Percut Sei Tuan District. The ESP program was specifically designed to equip parents with the ability to understand functional nutritional terminology, food labels, and basic health instructions. This study employed a Pre-Experimental (One-Group Pretest-Posttest) design conducted with 22 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The intervention was carried out over five days, from January 19 to 23, 2026. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using the paired sample t-test. The results indicated a statistically significant increase in the respondents nutritional understanding. The mean score rose from 54.1 at pre-test to 83.0 at post-test (p < 0.05). These findings prove that mastering technical nutritional terms through an ESP approach enhances parents self-efficacy in interpreting nutritional information and selecting healthy food. In conclusion, integrating functional language literacy into health interventions is an effective and innovative strategy to accelerate the reduction of stunting rates at the household level.

Abstract

The success rate of drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) treatment in Jambi Province has not yet reached the target. This study aims to determine factors contributing to treatment success in patients with rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (RR-TB) in Jambi Province. The study was conducted in Jambi Province using a retrospective cohort design. Data were obtained from the Tuberculosis Information System (SITB) for the period 2020–2023. A total of 122 patients were included using a total sampling technique. The inclusion criteria comprised patients who received treatment between 2020 and 2023 with complete data. Exclusion criteria included patients who had not completed treatment, had incomplete or duplicate data, or whose treatment outcomes had not been evaluated. The instrument used was the TB RO.03 report. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test and log-linear Poisson regression. The treatment success rate for RR-TB was 61.5%. Age was significantly associated with treatment success, with an adjusted relative risk (aRR) of 1.65 (95% CI: 1.03–2.66). In contrast, no significant associations were found between treatment success and gender, history of previous treatment, anti-tuberculosis drug regimen, diabetes mellitus status, or HIV status. Age was identified as the most dominant factor influencing treatment success. Therefore, special attention should be given to patients aged over 50 years to improve TB treatment outcomes.

Abstract

Household waste management in urban areas remains an important issue because it affects public health and environmental quality. In Jambi Province, waste management coverage has only reached 53.81% of the 70% target, indicating that current practices are still not optimal. This condition may increase the risk of environment-related diseases and lower sanitation quality. Kenali Besar Subdistrict in Jambi City is one of the areas with high waste generation and inadequate waste management. This study aimed to examine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, age, education level, income, and waste bin ownership with household waste management. A quantitative cross-sectional design was used involving 70 housewives selected through multistage random sampling. Data were collected using a validated Environmental Health Risk Assessment (EHRA)-based questionnaire and an observation checklist, then analyzed using Chi-Square tests. The results showed that 50% of respondents had poor household waste management practices, while 50% had good knowledge. Attitudes (p=0.017), education level (p=0.001), income (p=0.002), and waste bin ownership (p=0.000) were significantly associated with waste management. Meanwhile, knowledge (p=0.198) and age (p=0.473) were not significantly associated. In conclusion, improving community attitudes and access to waste management facilities is essential to enhance household waste management practices.

Abstract

Introduction: The nutritional status of children under five is an important indicator in assessing the level of public health and the success of health development. Nutritional problems in toddlers such as malnutrition, stunting and overnutrition are still a concern because they have an impact on children's growth and development. This research aims to determine the nutritional status of toddlers in Kerinci Regency in 2025. Method: This research is a descriptive study with a cross sectional approach using secondary data from the Integrated SIGIZI application. The number of samples in this study was 14,085 toddlers. Assessment of nutritional status is carried out based on indicators of body weight for age (WW/U), height for age (TB/U), and body weight for height (WW/TB). Data analysis was carried out descriptively by presenting frequency distributions and percentages. Result: The research results showed that the majority of toddlers had normal nutritional status, namely 13,122 toddlers (93.2%). There were 438 underweight toddlers based on the BB/U indicator (3.2%). There are 425 toddlers in the short category based on TB/U (3.0%). There were 94 toddlers with malnutrition status based on BW/TB (0.7%) and 6 toddlers with malnutrition (0.0%). Conclusion: This research shows that the nutritional status of toddlers in Kerinci Regency is generally classified as good because it is dominated by the normal category, however, both chronic and acute nutritional problems are still found so that routine growth monitoring, nutritional education to parents, and sustainable nutritional interventions are still found to improve the nutritional status of toddlers. Key words: nutritional status, toddlers, BB/U, TB/U, BB/TB, Kerinci Regency.
