Abstract

The learning system that only focuses on delivering material from lecturers should be replaced with two-way learning between lecturers and students. Case-Based Learning (CBL) is one of the learning systems that emphasizes student activeness during lectures. The role of the lecturer is no longer as a material provider with the lecture method, but only as a facilitator in providing direction to students so that the discussion does not get out of the substance of the ongoing course. From the research, it was found that students have difficulty learning CBL if there are other activities outside of learning, such as extracurricular activities, family problems, and even romance. For their own learning ethos, students have enthusiasm if the lecture is conducted using the CBL method. They are eager to find out about the cases given, do assignments without delay, and have a high level of confidence when doing assignments. Difficulties in applying CBL in Epidemiology Methods courses come from non-academic sources, such as family problems, extracurricular activities. Lecturers as educators are expected to apply various learning methods, and involve students more actively during lectures.

Abstract

The existing temporary waste disposal sites (TPS) are no longer sufficient to accommodate the increasing amount of waste. As a result, many residents dispose of their waste improperly. Along with the growing population, the volume of waste also increases. If waste is not managed properly, it can lead to significant issues, such as negative impacts on health and environmental cleanliness. In RT 11, Bagan Pete Village, Alam Barajo District, Jambi City, this issue is quite noticeable because there is no proper waste management system in place. Residents often dispose of household waste in random places, including along main roads. This community service activity aims to enhance the knowledge of RT 11 residents about the processing of organic waste into liquid organic fertilizer (POC). The service is carried out through outreach and training on making POC from household organic waste. The event was held at one of the residents' homes and attended by 25 housewives invited by the RT head. The outreach was conducted using a presentation media and distributing leaflets about household organic waste. Afterward, participants were given hands-on training on how to make POC. The outcome of this activity is an increased understanding among the community about organic waste and how to manage it. Residents were also trained to make POC, which can be used to fertilize plants in their yards. It is hoped that, through this outreach and training, the residents of RT 11 will be able to manage organic waste independently, reduce the habit of improperly disposing of waste, and create a cleaner and healthier environment.

Abstract

Introduction: Early marriage remains a significant social issue in Indonesia, with adverse economic and health consequences, particularly for young girls. In Jambi Province, the prevalence of early marriage is notably high. Social norms, including parental attitudes, normative expectations, and reference group practices, are critical factors influencing this phenomenon. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the role of social norms in shaping parents' intentions to marry off their daughters at an early age in Jambi City. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 200 parents using cluster sampling across 11 sub-districts in Jambi City. Data on parental attitudes, empirical and normative expectations, sanctions, and reference group practices were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using chi-square tests and multivariate logistic regression. Results: Parental attitudes (OR=4.08, 95% CI: 1.74–9.34, p=0.001), normative expectations (OR=3.62, 95% CI: 1.58–8.28, p=0.003), and reference group practices (OR=2.93, 95% CI: 1.36–6.33, p=0.009) were significantly associated with intentions for early marriage. Multivariate analysis confirmed parental attitudes as the strongest predictor (OR=3.42, 95% CI: 1.46–8.00, p=0.005). Conclusion: Social norms significantly influence parents' intentions to marry off their daughters early. Strategies to mitigate early marriage should focus on educating parents and community leaders, enforcing regulations, and reshaping societal norms to protect adolescents' health and future.
