Abstract

The development of social media has created various forms of slang language widely used by teenagers to express identity, emotions, and social attitudes. In its use, slang often contains implied meanings in the form of implicatures, making it interesting to study from a pragmatic perspective. This study aims to describe conventional implicatures and conversational implicatures in teenagers’ slang utterances on social media. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with slang utterances on social media platforms as the object of study. The data consist of slang expressions containing implicatures found in comments, captions, statuses, and digital conversations on TikTok, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Twitter (X) during 2025. Data were collected through documentation and note-taking techniques and analyzed through identification, classification, and interpretation based on Grice’s implicature theory. The results show that conventional implicatures appear through commonly understood slang vocabulary, while conversational implicatures depend on context and often function as satire, criticism, or evaluation.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the transformation of news delivery styles on TikTok, which tend to be informal and expressive. The phenomenon on the Metro TV TikTok account shows that the use of a satirical style by Valentinus Resa effectively attracts audience attention, yet still needs to be examined from the perspective of linguistic politeness. This study aims to describe the forms and functions of linguistic politeness principles within those narratives using a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The data for this research consist of utterances by Valentinus Resa sourced from news videos uploaded to the official Metro TV TikTok account. Data were collected through documentation, observation, and note-taking techniques, then analyzed based on the communicative context. The results of the study show that the forms of politeness applied include six maxims consisting of the Tact Maxim, the Generosity Maxim, the Approbation Maxim, the Modesty Maxim, the Agreement Maxim, and the Sympathy Maxim These forms are manifested through various linguistic units, including word choice, phrases, terms, metaphors, and comparisons. In addition, two strategic functions of politeness in the narrative were found, namely the function of criticizing and the function of presenting factual information to the audience. The satirical and humorous style of news delivery proved to remain within the principles of politeness without offending the audience. The research conclusion revealed that this strategy allows critical news messages to be well received by the public through a more flexible and communicative approach without neglecting linguistic ethics.

Abstract

This study examines the myths and local wisdom of the Jalawastu Traditional Village community through ethnolinguistic studies. The study aims to explain the forms of myths, taboos, oral traditions, and ecological values contained in the culture of the Jalawastu community as an effort to protect the environment and prevent natural disasters. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative with an ethnolinguistic approach. Research data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation of traditional leaders and the community of the Jalawastu Traditional Village in Brebes Regency, Central Java. The results show that the Jalawastu community possesses local knowledge that is passed down through generations through cultural language, as described below. The myth regarding the forbidden forest functions as a social control in maintaining forest sustainability and preventing environmental damage. The prohibition on wearing green clothing reflects a symbol of the community's respect for nature, which is considered to have a balance that must be maintained. The Ngasa ritual serves as a means to strengthen the harmonious relationship between humans, ancestors, and nature through the use of ritual language and cultural symbols. Oral traditions and the culture of mutual cooperation also play a role in passing on environmental conservation values to the younger generation. Thus, the myths and local wisdom of the Jalawastu community serve not only as cultural heritage but also as a form of environmental preservation and disaster mitigation based on local culture.

Abstract

Attachment patterns are psychological factors formed since childhood and influence the way individuals communicate, especially in stressful situations such as interpersonal conflicts. This study aims to examine the influence of attachment patterns on the tendency to use ambiguous language in interpersonal conflicts among students of the Indonesian Language Education Study Program at Wijaya Kusuma University, Surabaya. A descriptive quantitative approach was used involving 39 active students in semesters 1 to 7 as samples obtained through the Slovin formula. The research instrument used a Likert scale (1–5) consisting of an attachment pattern scale (ECR-R, 13 valid items) and an ambiguous language scale (8 valid items). Data analysis was carried out using simple linear regression with the help of IBM SPSS version 22. The results showed a t-value of 4.810 with a significance of 0.000 < 0.05 and R Square = 0.385, which means that attachment patterns have a significant effect on the use of ambiguous language by 38.5%. Students with insecure attachments (anxious and avoidant) are more likely to use ambiguous language as an emotion regulation strategy in conflict. These findings extend psycholinguistic research by integrating the psychological dimensions of attachment into the analysis of language behavior.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low speaking skills of students in negotiation text learning, such as lack of confidence in expressing opinions, passive participation during discussions, and limited opportunities to practice speaking. This study aimed to determine the differences in students’ speaking skills between classes using the Cooperative Script learning method and classes not using the method, as well as to determine the effectiveness of the Cooperative Script method in improving negotiation text speaking skills of tenth-grade students at SMK Nasional Berbah. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental research design and a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The population consisted of tenth-grade students of SMK Nasional Berbah, with a sample of 56 students divided into an experimental class and a control class. Data collection techniques included observation, tests, questionnaires, and documentation. Data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and t-tests with the assistance of SPSS 26 software. The results showed that the Cooperative Script learning method was effective in improving students’ speaking skills in negotiation text learning. This was indicated by the posttest mean score of the experimental class, which was 85.43, higher than the control class score of 67.68. In addition, the normality test results showed that the data were normally distributed, indicating that the statistical analysis requirements were fulfilled. Therefore, the Cooperative Script method can be used as an alternative learning method to improve students’ activeness and speaking skills in negotiation text learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the lyrics of the song “Bahagia Lagi” by Piche Kota through a historical-psychological approach to uncover the emotional dynamics and psychological structures embedded within the text. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research design, utilizing song lyrics as primary data and scholarly literature as secondary data. The analysis is conducted using content analysis techniques, including text segmentation, thematic coding, psychological interpretation, and historical contextualization. The findings reveal that the song does not merely represent emotional recovery or happiness after relational conflict. Instead, it reflects complex psychological dynamics, including emotional dependency, denial, cognitive dissonance, and maladaptive coping. The notion of happiness constructed in the lyrics functions as a psychological defense mechanism rather than an authentic emotional condition. From a historical perspective, this phenomenon aligns with contemporary trends in popular music that emphasize “healing” narratives as a form of emotional expression. This study contributes to literary and cultural studies by offering a critical interpretation of popular song lyrics through an integrated historical and psychological framework. It also challenges the assumption that representations of happiness in texts necessarily reflect genuine emotional states.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the application of the drill-and-practice method in reading literacy instruction for 12th-grade students at Haf-Sa BPPT Genggong High School by analyzing the implementation process of the method, the patterns of interaction between teachers and students, and various contextual factors that influence its implementation. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design focused on a single 12th-grade class during the reading literacy instruction process in the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. The research subjects consist of one Indonesian language teacher and six students selected through purposive sampling based on variations in reading literacy proficiency levels. Data collection was conducted through classroom observations over six sessions, semi-structured interviews, and a review of instructional materials and student exercise results. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of gradual, repetitive reading exercises contributes to the formation of systematic learning habits, increased precision in students’ comprehension of reading materials, and strengthened pedagogical feedback processes during instruction. However, the implementation of this method is also influenced by several constraints, such as limited instructional time, differences in students’ initial abilities, and the potential for burnout due to intensive practice. The findings indicate that the success of the drill-and-practice method is not solely determined by the repetition of exercises, but also depends heavily on the quality of instructional design, teachers’ adaptability, and effective pedagogical interaction.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the learning strategy that utilizes dice media in teaching negotiation text writing, the challenges encountered during its implementation, and the teacher's contribution in improving the participation of tenth-grade students at MA Al-Muttahidah. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive study design. The participants consisted of an Indonesian language teacher, tenth-grade students, and the vice principal for curriculum affairs. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the use of dice media through a game-based learning approach helped students explore ideas, determine themes, and creatively construct negotiation dialogues. The implementation of dice media also created a more dynamic learning environment, as students became more actively involved in discussions and group activities. However, several challenges were identified during the implementation, including students’ lack of self-confidence, difficulties in organizing the structure of negotiation texts, and limited instructional time. Furthermore, the teacher played a crucial role as a facilitator, motivator, and classroom manager in supporting students’ participation throughout the learning process. Therefore, dice media can serve as an effective alternative instructional medium for teaching negotiation text writing.

Abstract

This study presents a textual and contextual analysis of the podcast featuring Deddy Corbuzier and Aiman Witjaksono using Teun A. Van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis model, and examines its relevance to the teaching of expository texts to 10th-grade students at MA Darut Tauhid in Krejengan, Probolinggo. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data sources including podcast transcripts, observation results, interviews with teachers and students, and learning documentation. Data collection techniques involved observation, interviews, note-taking, and documentation, while data analysis was conducted through the stages of data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the macro structure of the podcast focuses on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on human life. The podcast’s superstructure is systematically organized through an introduction, development of arguments, and conclusion. The micro structure is characterized by the use of persuasive, evaluative, and emotional language. In terms of social context and social cognition, the study explains the influence of social reality, knowledge, and the speaker’s experiences in constructing discourse. Additionally, the podcast is relevant as a medium for teaching expository texts because it can develop students’ critical thinking skills through information analysis and the construction of logical arguments.
