Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether Indonesian Folktale can improve students’ reading comprehension  or not. This research is pre experimental research design consist of one group pre-test and post-test. The Population of this research are the eight grade of SMP Negeri 2 Dondo in 2016/2017 academic year. The sample of this research is selected by using purposive sampling technique and the selected class is VIIIb consisted of 29 students. In collecting the data, the researcher conduct test covered pre and post test. The researcher analized the data statically.The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in posttest 74.83 is higher than pretest 33.38. To know the significant difference between pretest and posttest, the researcher compared the value of t-counted and t-table by applying 0.05 level of significance for two-tailed test with 28 degree of freedom (29-1=28), the researcher found that the t – table is 2.048. It means that the t-counted (23.96) is higher than t-table (2.048) and the hypothesis of this research is accepted.The researcher concluded that using Indonesian Folktale can improve students’ reading comprehension at eight grade of SMP Negeri 2 Dondo.Key Word: Reading comprehension, Indonesian Folktale.

Abstract

This research belongs to experimental design with pre-test and post-test activity. The objective of the research is to know effectifness used discovery technique to imcrease student vocabulary mastery. Sample of the research were 30 students’ of ten grade of SMA Negeri 2 Tolitoli. In doing this research, the researcher used discovey techique. The data analysis of the research was quantitative measurement to find the mean Based on the data analysis from pre-test and post-test activity. Based on the result, it was found that the use of Discovery in Teaching English is effective to increase the students’ vocabulary mastery and very beneficial for the students in order to facilitate them in Learning English. Key words: discovery, vocabulary, increasing.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to prove whether word search puzzle can be applied to increase students’ vocabulary.. This pre-experimental study uses 33 students as a sample. They are grade VIIf of SMP N 3 Tolitoli. The procedure of this research consists of pretest, treatment, and posttest. The result of the analysis shows that word search puzzle contribute greatly to the students’ vocabulary.. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 76.09 while in the post-test improved up to 84.61. The data of this research are analyzed by using SPSS Program version 16.0. Then the data of both tests are analyzed by using T-test, and the result shows that the T-test value 11.818 is high than T-table value 2.037. It can be inferred that word search puzzle was very effective to increase students’ vocabulary.  Keywords:  Increasing, vocabulary, word search puzzle

Abstract

This research design belongs to a pre-experimental research. The instruments of collecting data are pretest and posttest. The test was used to obtain data in order to find out the effect of using sequences pictures in writing procedure text.The result of the research shows that: 1. by using sequences pictures can improve students’ writing ability in procedure text, 2. there is significant difference between the result of pretest and posttest, the mean score of posttest was 78,40 it was higher than the mean score of pretest 56,0. 3. The testing hypothesis shows that Tcount 9,167was higher than Ttable 2,093. It indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) accepted. Finally, this research shows that students’ ability was improved after they were taught using sequences pictures. They were better in their procedure text writing. It was signed by their improvements of writing component are organization, Vocabulary and grammar. Key Words: Sequence Pictures, Ability, Writing, Improving.

Abstract

This research objective was to prove that whether of the use of pictures can improve students writing descriptive test or not. The design of this research was pre-experimental research. The sample of the research was the seventh grade students that consisted of 27 students. They were grade VIIA of SMP Negeri 2 Tolitoli. The data obtained from pre-test, treatment and post-test. The researcher gave pre-test and post-test to know students previous ability in writing descriptive text. The result of the data analysis showed that pictures contributed greatly to the students writing descriptive text. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 36.41 while in the post-test improved up to 68.52. The data of this research were analyzed by using SPSS program version 16.0. The Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson was 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of both tests were analyzed by using T-test, and result showed that the T-test value 18.43 was high than T-table value 2.056 . The result indicates that there was an improvement in writing descriptive text by using pictures. It can concluded that teaching writing descriptive text by using pictures is effective to improve students writing descriptive text.Keywords : Writing, Descriptive text, Pictures.

Abstract

This study is conduct to find out whether there is a significant difference between reading comprehension ability of students at SMP Negeri 1 Dako Pemean who are teach by using Herringbone technique. The method use is experimental method. The instrument for collecting the data is a reading comprehension test. It is conduct in one class (VIII C). The data are obtained through a pre-test and post-test. The researcher use SPSS 16.0 program to analyze the data collection. The result of the analysis show that the application of Herringbone technique improve students’ ability in reading comprehension. The mean score of pre-test is 39.30 while in the post-test improve up to 73.43. Moreover the minimum mastery criterion of English lesson is 65 (sixty-five). Then the data of both test are analyzed by using T-test, and the result show that the T-count value is 13.074 greater than T-table value is 2.074. it can be inferred that the application Herringbone technique is very effective to improve students’ ability in reading comprehension. Keywords: Improving, reading comprehension, Herringbone technique

Abstract

The  aims  of  this  research  is  to  find  out  the  significant  correlation  between  the students’ attitude toward the students English achievement, to find out the significant correlation between learning motivation toward the students English achievement, and to find out the significant simultaneously between students’ attitude and learning motivation toward the students English achievement at the first grade in SMAN 3 Tolitoli. This research use quantitative analysis, the population of this research is the first grade of SMAN 3 Tolitoli and the sample of this research are 33 students. The researcher used questionnaire   as the main technique of collecting the data, the result of this research showed that there was significant correlation between students’ attitude toward the students English achievement, it is proved Tcount2,1113>Ttable 2,045. The second, there was no significant correlation between learning motivation toward the students English achievement, it is proved Tcont0,3234<T table 2,045,  the  third  there  was  no  significant  simultaneously  between  students’  attitude  and learning  motivation  toward  the  students  English  achievement  it  is  proved  sig  f  change 0,136>0,05.  The  conclusion  from  this  research  there  was  no  significant  simultaneously between students’ attitude and learning motivation toward the students English achievement.Keyword: Attitude, motivation, achievement

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve the students’ achievement on IPA subject through Cooperative Learning Picture and Picture type. This research is belongs to Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of this research was the teacher and the VII grade students of SMP 4 Tolitoli. It consist of 23 students. The technique of collecting data used in this research was observation and test. The observation was used to collect information about the teaching and learning process whereas the test was used to find out the students achievement after being taught by using Cooperative learning. The result shows that, there is improvement of students achievement. The improvement was occurred after the Cooperative learning implemented. This research was done in two cycles. In the first cycle the successful percentage was 78, 26% and in the second cycle the successful percentage was 86, 96. It indicates that there is a significant improvement between the first and the second cycle. It means that the use of Cooperative Learning Picture and picture type is successfully improve the students’ achievement on IPA subject at the VII grade students of SMP 4 Tolitoli.Keywords : IPA, Cooperative,Picture and Picture Tipe Grade VII Students of,Junior High School.

Abstract

This study aims to determine what are the teaching skills that implemented by students in the microteaching course at the University of Madako Tolitoli. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research that located in University of Madako Tolitoli. The data source consists of 10 students who had practiced microteaching class. Data collection techniques used interview and documentation. The result of this study shows that students majoring in English who had been followed the practice of microteaching implemented seven (7) teaching skills. They are opening skill, explaining skill, reinforcement, variation skill, questioning skill, class management skill, and closing and evaluating skill.Key words : teaching skill, microteaching

Abstract

 The objective of this research uses to find out the correlation between students’ attitude and reading comprehension toward English achievement. This research is correlation research. The sample of this research consisted 15 students of XI MIA. The data are obtained from questioner, test and last final result (report). In measuring the data correlation, the researcher used SPSS 21 program. The finding of this research, (1) The result of the students’ attitude toward English achievement was 0,013 > 0,05. It indicates that there is no correlation between students’ attitude toward English achievement. (2) The result of reading comprehension toward English achievement was 0,066 > 0,05. It means that there is no correlation between reading comprehension toward English achievement. (3) The result showed students’ attitude and reading comprehension toward English achievement simultaneously was 0,973>0,05. It can be concluded that there is no correlation between students’ attitude and reading comprehension toward English achievement at the second grade of SMA Katolik Atmajaya Tolitoli.Keywords:Correlation, Attitude, Reading Comprehension, English  Achievement.
