Abstract

The objective of the research is to identify whether the use of story map technique can improve students’ ability in writing narrative text. This pre-experimental study uses 23 students as a sample. They are grade eight at MTs DDI Kel. BaruTolitoli. The procedure of this research consists of pretest, treatment, and posttest. The researcher gives pretest and posttest to know the use of story map technique can improve the students’ ability in writing narrative text or not. The result of the analysis shows that story map technique contributes greatly to the students in comprehending narrative text. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test is 62.30 while in the post-test improve up to 82.09. The data of this research are analyzed by SPSS Program 16. Moreover, the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson is 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of both test are analyze by using T-test, and the result show that the T-test value 7.572 is greater than T-table value 2.074. It can be inferred that story map technique is very effective to improve students’ ability in writing narrative text. Keywords: Improving, reading comprehension, narrative text, scanning technique.

Abstract

This research design belongs to a pre-experimental research. This research aims to find out whether the use of song lyric can increasing students’ vocabulary at VIII grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Tolitoli. The instrument of collecting data are pretest and posttest. The test was used obtain data in order to find out the effect of using song lyric. The result of the research shows that: 1. By using song lyric can increasing students vocabulary in listening music, 2. There is significant difference between the result of pretest and posttest , the mean score of posttest was 82.42 it was higher than the mean score of pretest 77.09. 3. The testing hypothesis shows that T-count 9.609 was higher than T table 2.036 it indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) rejected and (Ha) accepted. That ability was increase after they were taught using song lyric. They was better in their listening music.Key word: Vocabulary, Verb, Lyric, Song, Increase.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether the application of picture effective to improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text. It is a pre-experimental research. The study is the first grade of MTs. DDI Kel. Baru Tolitoli. It is conduct class (VII A). The data are obtain through a pre-test and post-test. The writer use SPSS 16.0 program to analyze the data collection. The result of the analysis show that the application of picture contribute greatly to the students in writing descriptive text. The mean score of  pre-test is 65.70 while in the post-test improve up to 79.46. Moreover, the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson is 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of  both test are analyze by using T-test, and the result show that the T-count value is 10.839 greater than T-table value is 2.045. It can be inferred that the application of picture is very effective to improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text. Key words: picture, writing, descriptive text.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to identify whether the use of mind mapping was effective to improve students’ skill in writing narrative text. This pre-experimental study  used 25 students as a sample. They were grade VIIIC of MTs DDI Kel.Baru. The procedure of this research consisted of pretest, treatment, and posttest. The researcher gave pretest and posttest to know the use of mind mapping technique can improve the students’ writing ability or not.  The result of the analysis showed that mind mapping technique contributed greatly to the students in writing narrative text. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 48.60 while in the post-test improved up to 71.00. The data of this research were analyzed by using SPSS Program 16.0.Moreover, the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson was 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of both tests were analyzed by using T-test, and the result showed that the T-test value 11.362 was greater than T-table value 2.064. It can be inferred that mind mapping technique was very effective to improve students’ ability in writing narrative text.  Key words: improving, teaching writing, narrative text, mind mapping technique. ABSTRACT

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether pop song significant or not to improve students’ listening skill at SMP Negeri 2 Galang. This research is pre-experimental research design consists of one group pre-test and post-test. There are two variables of this research namely dependent and independent variables. The independent variable is Pop Song and dependent variable is students’ listening skill at eight grade of SMP Negeri 2 Galang. The Population of this research is the eight grade of SMP Negeri 2 Galang in 2016/2017 academic year. The sample of this research is selected by using purposive sampling technique and the selected class is VIIIa consisted of 24 students. In collecting the data, the researcher conduct test covered pre and post test in order to measure the students’ listening skill before and after given pop song media. The researcher analized the data statically.The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in posttest 72,91 is higher than pretest 31,16. To know the significant difference between pretest and posttest, the researcher compared the value of t-counted and t-table by applying 0.05 level of significance for two-tailed test with 23 degree of freedom (24-1=23), the researcher found that the t – table is 3,768. It means that the t-counted (9,15) is higher than t-table (3,768) and the hypothesis of this research is accepted. The researcher concluded that using Pop Song can improve students’ listening skill at eight grade of SMP Negeri 2 Galang.  Key words:improving, listening skill, and pop song.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the empirical evidence concerning whether story mapping  is effective or not to improve students reading comprehension. Story mapping is use to motivate students in reading because it helps them to visualize the important elements of story and make students’ thoughts to be more organized, the researcher is interested to conduct a research by applying the technique of story mapping toward students’ reading comprehension through the material. This study was held in March 2015 at SMAN 1 Ogodeide. This study used a quantitative method in the design of pre-experimental study. The sampling technique use in this study is purposive sampling. The researcher took one class as the subject of this study. The sample is XB class. The improvement of students’ score can be seen from the differences between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pretest is 34.24 and it improves to 77.52 in post. Moreover the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson is 70 (seventy). Then the data of both test are analyzed by using T-test, and the result showed that the T-test value 18.27 was greater than T-table value 2.064. According to the criteria of the test, the result showe that there is a significant improvement between students' achievement in reading comprehension by using story mapping before and after pre-test and post-test are conducted. It means that story mapping technique is effective and applicable at the X grade of SMAN 1 Ogodeide to teach students’ reading comprehension. Key words: Improving, reading comprehension, story mapping

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the application of Task Based Learning strategy to improve students’ ability in reading descriptive text. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Ogodeide from March to April 2017. This research is categorized as a collaborative classroom action research. The researcher worked collaboratively with one English teacher, Mr. Lisman S.Pd in the class. The researcher did two cycles in which each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The data were gathered through qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were gained by analyzing observation result, field note, and interview. Then quantitative data were obtained from the students’ reading test. The result of this study show that task based learning is effective in improving students’ reading ability. Researchers conduct II cycles in this study. In cycle I the students’ mean score increased from 48% (preliminary test result) to 68% (final result of cycle I test). In cycle II, the students’ mean score is 80%. This means that classroom action research is successful. Then, the researcher concludes from this data, that task based learning is appropriate for reading because it makes students more active, participation and student value increase in reading ability. Key Word: Improving, Reading ability, Descriptive text, Task based learning.

Abstract

The students of SMP Negeri 3 Tolitoli had problem when they read the text. This research aims improving the reading comprehension of VIII grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Tolitoli through Task Based Learning. This is pre- experimental research design. The sample was 31 students at class VIIIH. The data were collected through observation, pretest, and posttest. The pretest was conducted to know the students’ prior knowledge before treatment, whereas posttest was accomplished to measure their knowledge after treatment. The researcher analyzed the data statistical. The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in posttest 72.29 is higher than pretest 60.81. The testing hypothesis shows t-count 14.36 was higher than t-table 2.042. It indicates that null hypothesis (Ho) rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) accepted. In other words, the students’ reading comprehension can be improved through Task Based Learning.Key Words: Improving, reading comprehension, and Task Based Learning.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve students reading comprehension of the VII grade of MTs. Hi. Hayyun Salumpaga by using humor story. This research belongs to experimental design following the three step is pretest, treatment, posttest. The population of the research is the VII grade students of MTs. Hi. Hayyun Salumpaga. The data were analyzed by using experimental analysis in order to know the significant difference of the achievement of the students in pretest and posttest. By applying 0.05 level of significant, the researcher find out that tcount 5.900 is higher than ttable 2.060. It is suggested that humor story in teaching English can be recommended for the English teacher. But the English teacher a hold select appropriate humor story to the students.Key Word: Improving, Reading Comprehension, Humor Story.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether mind mapping strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension or not..This research is pre experimental research design consist of one group pre-test and post-test. The Population of this research is the eighth grade of SMPN 5 Tolitoli in 2016/2017 academic year. The sample of this research is selected by using purposive sampling technique and the selected class is VIII b consisted of 21 students. In collecting the data, the researcher took from the result of pre-test and post-test. The researcher analized the data  statically.The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in posttest 81.14 is higher than pretest 51.4  To know the significant difference between pretest and posttest, the researcher compared the value of t-counted and t-table by applying 0.05 level of significance for two-tailed test with 20 degree of freedom (21-1=20), the researcher found that the tcounted (15,98) is higher than ttable (2,080) and the hypothesis of this research is accepted.The researcher concluded that application mind mapping strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension of eight grade at SMP N 5 Tolitoli.  Key words:improving reading comprehension,and mind mapping.
