Abstract

Robert browning and the form of poetry known as “dramatic monologue” inevitably go togather. It is already made known that dramatic monologue is esssentially a narrative spoken by a single character. We are to imagine that it is being listened to but never answered; it is a dialogue of which we are to hear only one side. It gains added effect and dimensions through the character’s comments on his own story and the circumtances in which he speaks. It is through the single character’s speech that Browning present the plot, characters and scenes. It is through the words of Andrea that the reader can feel the presence of the plot, characters and scenes. This article tries to describe how Robert Browning handles his three objects in writing dramatic monologue through his poem entitled Andrea Del Sarto.

Abstract

This research investigates personal deixis that indicate solidarity in campus environment. Students and lecturers conversation transcription were collected and analyzed by the researcher to identify the types of personal pronoun that commonly used to pointer the participants. The result showed that there were three kinds of pronoun used commonly by the participants and those indicate close relationship among others such as first person singular, second person singular, and third person plural. The finding revealed that the second person singular of bro, sist, and jeng are common in pointing speakers’ audience. Eventhough, those become slang language in society. The implication of this research suggested for other types of pronoun to be exist in campus environment and indicate power.

Abstract

The research was carried out to investigate whether there was any significant contribution of family background and parental involvement towards students’ achievement, and which spesific parental involvement aspects best predict students English performance. To this end, English test was administered to Indonesian senior high school students (n= 222), and questionnaire was to their parents.Path analysis with smartPLS was utilized to analyze the data. The results revealed that the contribution of family background towards parental involvement is significant. However, there are no significant contributions of parental involvement and family background towards students’ achievement. No significant contribution is also found between family background and students’ achievement through intermediary variable of parental involvement. Other finding indicated that parents’ aspiration and expectation along with enhancing learning opportunities at home had the strongest effects on students’ achievement.

Abstract

Chomsky states that language is a mirror of the mind. From that opinion, he creates a concept which is known as competence and performance. Competence is the fluent native speaker’s knowledge of his language; meanwhile, performance is what people actually say or understand by what someone else says on a given situation. Chomsky adds that there are two structures involved in constructing a sentence namely, Deep Structure and Surface Structure. A sentence always derives from Deep Structure which exists in the mind of speakers. Then, syntactic rules will be applied to the Deep Structure. After applying the rules, Surface Structure will be obtained. The syntactic rules applied in a sentence are Movement Transformation, Deletion Transformation, and Substitution Transformation. However, the main discussion in this article is Movement Transformation. This article will elaborate some types of movement transformation in constructing English sentences.

Abstract

The objective of the study is to reveal the types of errors made by students in transforming direct to indirect speech in the form of statements. Furthermore, it attempts to find out the kind of errors that the students do most. To achieve the objectives of the study, the writer conducted a field research in which a test of grammar was administered. Then she did the library research in order to find some books and references that were related to error analysis and grammar. The subjects of the study were the second grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Peusangan. There were 295 students from which 34 students were taken as the sample. With the intention of drawing representative sample, simple random sampling was applied. The data were in the form of students’ scores on the tests. The data shows that the students made errors on the selection of appropriate tenses, pronouns, and adverb of time. The most errors they made were in changing pronoun. In line with the result of the research, the writer suggested that to improve the students’ ability in transforming direct to indirect speech, students have to learn more about pronoun, tenses, and adverb of time in turning direct to indirect speech. Additionally, it is essential to the teacher to know that choosing the appropriate pronoun is still hard for the students, so that they have to find a new way to improve it.

Abstract

Setiap anak dilahirkan dengan bakat tersediri, tidak terkecuali anak yang menyandang disleksia. Mereka terlahir dengan kesulitan belajar, namun pada umumnya mereka adalah anak yang cerdas. Sejatinya yang mereka perlukan adalah treatment yang sesuai untuk mengatasi kesulitan belajar yang dialami. Salah satu kesulitan yang sering muncul adalah kesulitan dalam kegiatan membaca yang merupakan salah satu skill dalam berbahasa. Kesulitan tersebut dapat mempengaruhi anak dalam memahami informasi dan pengetahuan terkini karena mayoritas kegitan belajar melibatkan aktivitas membaca. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, orang tua dan guru sepatutnya bersabar dalam melatih serta secara simultan memotivasi si penderita untuk terus membaca. Instruksi yang jelas dan dorongan yang memadai memungkinkan anak mampu mewujudkan cita-citanya di kemudian hari.

Abstract

RA Al- Azhar Kota Langsa menerapkan kelas sentra untuk proses pembelajarannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana sentra persiapan menyajikan proses pembelajaran untuk mengenalkan pembelajaran membaca, menulis, dan berhitung. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan indepth – interview, observasi dan studi dokumen. Pembelajaran membaca dimulai dengan strategi pengenalan huruf dan angka terlebih dahulu. Proses pengenalan huruf dan angka dilakukan dengan menggunakan media lagu. Pembelajaran membaca juga disajikan dengan menggunakan kartu acak. Pembelajaran menulis dilakukan dengan tahapan, merangkai huruf yang telah ditulis dengan garis putus-putus, menebalkan huruf, hingga menulis tingkat lanjutan berupa menulis kata-kata sederhana. Begitu juga pembelajaran berhitung dilakukan secara bertahap. Dimulai dari pengenalan angka, pemahaman konsep dituangkan ke dalam penulisan lambang angka, kemudian pada tahap lebih lanjut anak dikenalkan dengan operasi berhitung. Seluruh aktivitas pembelajaran dilakukan dengan bantuan alat dan media yang dapat meningkatkan minat dan kreativitas siswa. Selain itu, aktivitas pembelajaran disajikan dalam bentuk permainan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat citra modernitas dalam pembelajaran bahasa Arab dan bahasa Inggris di pondok pesantren Madrasah Ulumul Quran. Penelitian ini dilakukan karena meskipun kedua bahasa asing (Arab dan Inggris) itu diajarkan secara seimbang namun para santri cenderung untuk mendalami salah satu bahasa asing itu. Adapun yang menjadi pembahasannya adalah bagaimana bahasa Arab dan Inggris menggambarkan identitas dan citra modernisasi dalam pembelajaran bahasa asing di kalangan santri di Madrasah Ulumul Quran di Langsa Adapun yang menjadi subjek penelitian ini adalah santri putra dan putri yang telah duduk di Madrasah Aliyah. Pemilihan subjek penelitian ini dengan menggunakan purposive sampling method karena santri yang duduk di kelas Aliyah telah lebih lama terekspose dengan kedua bahasa asing tersebut. Dari hasil penelitian, beberapa faktor yang menentukan kecenderungan memilih menggunakan salah satu bahasa, yaitu faktor lingkungan. Santri memilih untuk mendalami bahasa Arab karena tidak banyak yang mampu menggunakan bahasa tersebut. Selain itu teknologi juga memberikan warna baru terhadap pemilihan salah satu bahasa. Bagi santri Madrasah Ulumul Quran, keberadaan alumni juga mendorong para santri untuk mengeksplorasikan keahlian mereka dalam menggunakan bahasa yang lebih baik.

Abstract

من أهم العناصر فى تعليم وتعلم اللغة العربية هي الطريق والطرق، والوسائل، والمواد التعليمية، ودور المدرسين. وعرفنا أن من أهم العناصر فى تعلم وتعليم اللغة العربية منها دور المدرسين. كما قال محمد يونس: "الطريقة أهم من المادة، والمدرس أهم من الطريقة". هذا بمعنى أن المدرس الذى له كفاءة وقدرة فى اللغة فله دورا كبيرا فى التعليم. من أهداف هذا البحث التعرف على دور المدرسين في تشجيع الطلبة على تعلم اللغة العربية بمدرسة علوم القرآن بلانـجسا. وعلى العام، محاولات المدرسين فى تشجيع رغبة الطلبة على تعلم العربية بهذه المدرسة تمكن أن تكون نمطا من الأنماط للمدارس والمعاهد فى سعي اكتساب اللغة الأجنبية للأطفال.

Abstract

In language teaching, media is one of the tools that very useful to support its successful teaching. In teaching pronunciation, the students need to give additional information how to pronounce words. One of the ways is by using Youtube pronunciation videos. By using Youtube pronunciation videos, the students will get more input and knowledge how to pronounce words from the native. The objective of this research is to know whether there is a significant influence of watching Youtube pronunciation videos towards students’ pronunciation ability. There were two variables in this research, the independent variable (X) was Youtube Pronunciation videos and dependent variable (Y) was the students’ pronunciation ability. The research method used was experimental design. The researchers dealt with two classes, they were an experimental class and a control class. In the experimental class, the researchers used Youtube pronunciation videos, whereas in control class the researchers did not use any media. Each class received the same pre-test and post-test. The population of this research was the second year students of MAN 1 Model Bandar Lampung. The samples of this research were two classes consisting of 90 students. In collecting the data, the researchers used reading aloud test as the instrument. After doing the data analysis, it was found that there is a significant influence of using videos towards students’ pronunciation ability. It can be seen from the result of the T test that T-observed was 5.34615, and the result of T-critical was 1.67. It means thatT-observed was higher than T-critical (T-observed> T-critical). Therefore, the hypothesis is accepted. This result means that there is significant influence of watching Youtube pronunciation videos towards students’ pronunciation ability.
