Abstract

This community service program was conducted at SMK Walisongo Jakarta with the goal of improving students' English listening skills through a mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) approach. The program was designed based on a needs analysis that identified key challenges in mastering listening skills among vocational students. The initiative contributed to students' professional development by enhancing their English listening proficiency, a skill crucial for effective communication in various professional settings. Furthermore, it introduced them to mobile-assisted learning, thereby helping them develop independent study habits using accessible technology. The program’s implementation included a pre-test, an introduction to the MALL concept, demonstrations of supporting applications, structured listening practice sessions, and a final post-test. The evaluation results showed a substantial improvement in students’ listening abilities, with the average score rising significantly from 66.56 on the pre-test to 95.78 on the post-test. This indicates that through a structured approach and the use of accessible mobile technology, the program successfully achieved its goal of improving English listening skills and preparing students for workplace communication challenges. In conclusion, integrating MALL can be an effective method for English language learning that aligns well with the demands of the global industry.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, English proficiency is a crucial skill for enhancing individual competitiveness. Adolescence is an ideal stage for language acquisition due to more mature cognitive abilities. This community service program was designed to address the lack of English language learning at the Pondok Pesantren Rahmatullah Lempake in Samarinda, a problem primarily caused by limited teaching staff. The main goal of this activity was to equip students with foundational English knowledge, empowering them to become more competitive and competent individuals in society. The program, conducted over 12 meetings, provided basic English instruction to 9th-grade Wustho students. The methodology included a preparation stage, followed by implementation using the service-learning method, and concluded with a comprehensive evaluation. The evaluation results demonstrated a notable improvement in both understanding and motivation among the participants. Specifically, the students' basic English language skills showed an increase of 60-80%, highlighting the program's effectiveness in bridging the educational gap and fostering a positive learning environment.

Abstract

As a Muslim-majority country, Indonesia has made halal product assurance a central policy to promote global halal tourism and strengthen its national identity. The government, through the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH), has mandated halal certification for all businesses. To accelerate this, a free halal certification program has been launched, specifically targeting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). However, this program remains largely unknown, especially in rural and peripheral areas like Malingping, Lebak Regency. This community service initiative aimed to assist local Nasi Lemang producers in Malingping, South Lebak, in obtaining halal certification. Many of these entrepreneurs lack the necessary knowledge about the procedures and requirements for certification. The method employed involved a combination of socialization, mentoring, and technical assistance throughout the halal certification registration process. The outcome of this program was the successful acquisition of halal certificates by the Nasi Lemang entrepreneurs. This not only ensures their products comply with national standards but also enhances the added value of Lemang as a distinctive culinary icon of Malingping. Ultimately, this effort contributes to the preservation of local culinary heritage while supporting Indonesia's broader halal industry development agenda.

Abstract

Dukun Subdistrict is one of the areas with a high level of vulnerability to Mount Merapi eruptions. The low understanding of technical disaster mitigation terms among rural communities, particularly those in the KRB III (Third Zone of Disaster-Prone Area), served as the foundation for implementing the "Layar Merapi" program. This community service initiative utilizes open-air cinema screenings, combined with educational sessions and performances of local cultural arts, to foster disaster preparedness. The program was conducted in six villages, employing an educational, participatory, and culture-based approach. The results indicate that this initiative successfully increased the community's collective understanding of disaster mitigation and strengthened social networks among village residents.

Abstract

Indonesia's literacy rate remains relatively low, particularly in rural areas. Community Reading Parks (Taman Bacaan Masyarakat or TBMs), as a form of non-formal education, play a strategic role in fostering a culture of literacy. However, many TBMs lack visual appeal, which often results in low reading interest among children and limited community participation. This community service program aimed to revitalize the Asyfa TBM in Ambarjaya Village through a visual arts approach based on murals, a renewal of the book collection, and the development of a wall magazine. The activities were conducted using the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method. The results demonstrated a significant increase in children's visits, enhanced visual appeal, and greater community participation. The mural approach proved effective in creating an inspiring and inclusive learning space. The program concludes with policy recommendations for local governments to support the replication of similar programs in other TBMs, especially in rural areas.
