Abstract

The bamboo weaving craft training program in Sikulan Village, Jiput, Pandeglang, Banten, aims to empower the community by enhancing technical and entrepreneurial skills based on local potential. This initiative is driven by the underutilization of bamboo as an economic commodity, despite its abundant availability in the village environment. The method used is Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), applying a participatory approach in the planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. The training was conducted in three phases: entrepreneurship socialization; technical training on bamboo weaving and digital marketing; and outcome evaluation. A total of 20 participants were actively involved and showed high enthusiasm, with an attendance rate of 95%. The training materials covered basic weaving techniques, product design, social media use for promotion, and simple business planning. Evaluation results indicated a significant improvement in pre-test and post-test scores, as well as in the quality of the craft products produced. More than 50 products were created by participants, and one new business group was formed after the training. Additionally, the Instagram account @sinar.sikulan was successfully launched as a digital showcase for the products. This training not only enhanced the community’s technical skills but also encouraged the emergence of new economic opportunities and strengthened local cultural identity through creative economy strategies. In conclusion, the training effectively increased community capacity and can be replicated as a sustainable village empowerment model.

Abstract

Indonesia's literacy rate remains relatively low, particularly in rural areas. Community Reading Parks (Taman Bacaan Masyarakat or TBMs), as a form of non-formal education, play a strategic role in fostering a culture of literacy. However, many TBMs lack visual appeal, which often results in low reading interest among children and limited community participation. This community service program aimed to revitalize the Asyfa TBM in Ambarjaya Village through a visual arts approach based on murals, a renewal of the book collection, and the development of a wall magazine. The activities were conducted using the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method. The results demonstrated a significant increase in children's visits, enhanced visual appeal, and greater community participation. The mural approach proved effective in creating an inspiring and inclusive learning space. The program concludes with policy recommendations for local governments to support the replication of similar programs in other TBMs, especially in rural areas.

Abstract

Digital transformation is redefining the landscape of visual arts, merging technological innovation with evolving cultural and aesthetic practices. This narrative review examines the integration of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality into visual arts, focusing on opportunities, challenges, and aesthetic transformations. Literature was gathered from databases such as Scopus, Google Scholar, IEEE Xplore, and Web of Science using targeted keywords, with peer-reviewed studies published in the last decade included based on relevance to digital art practices. Results reveal that emerging technologies significantly enhance creativity, audience engagement, and accessibility through immersive experiences, digital archives, and online exhibitions. However, challenges persist, including risks of artistic identity loss, ethical dilemmas in authorship and intellectual property, and disparities in technological access across regions. Systemic factors, including policy frameworks, cultural institutions, and education, critically shape how these technologies are adopted and perceived. Proposed solutions highlight blockchain authentication, digital literacy initiatives, and policy interventions to balance innovation with cultural preservation. Nonetheless, research gaps remain, particularly in addressing socio-cultural implications and long-term effects of digital tools on creativity and heritage. This review underscores the urgency of interdisciplinary strategies and global collaboration to ensure digital transformation enriches, rather than diminishes, cultural diversity and artistic integrity.

Abstract

This narrative review examines the intersections between visual arts and sustainability, focusing on eco-friendly materials, green practices in art education, and community engagement strategies. The study aims to synthesize how visual arts contribute to ecological awareness and sustainable practices, while identifying barriers and opportunities for greater impact. A systematic search was conducted across Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar using keywords such as “sustainable visual arts,” “eco-friendly art materials,” and “green practices in art education.” Inclusion criteria emphasized peer-reviewed studies published between 2010 and 2024, covering both empirical and theoretical contributions. The results demonstrate that recycled and bio-based materials significantly reduce environmental footprints while inspiring innovative creative practices. Education emerges as a central driver, with sustainability-focused curricula preparing future artists to adopt eco-conscious methods. Community-based art projects further illustrate how participatory practices democratize sustainability discourse and enhance public engagement. Comparative insights reveal disparities between developed and developing countries, shaped by economic resources, institutional support, and policy frameworks. The discussion emphasizes the need for stronger policies, financial support, and interdisciplinary collaborations to overcome systemic barriers. While current literature has made significant strides, gaps remain in cross-cultural analysis and in understanding the behavioral impact of sustainable art on audiences. The findings underscore the importance of visual arts as both aesthetic expression and transformative agent, with urgent implications for policy, education, and future research.

Abstract

AZKO Logo in the Perspective of Roland Barthes’ Semiotics: Constructing Visual Identity through Rebranding. This study examines the AZKO logo through Roland Barthes’ semiotic framework, focusing on three layers of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. Using a qualitative approach, the analysis explores visual elements capital, which are letters “AZ” and “KO,” the red dot, and the dominant use of red that constructs meanings beyond their graphic form. Findings reveal that the logo functions not only as a visual identity but also as a symbolic medium representing completeness, collaboration, openness, and adaptability. The rebranding from Ace Hardware Indonesia to AZKO illustrates a strategic shift that communicates efficiency, courage, and professionalism, while producing myths of modernity and local independence. Academically, this research contributes to visual semiotics by highlighting logos as ideological communication tools. Practically, it provides insights for companies seeking to reinforce local identity through rebranding. Future research is encouraged to explore culture-based logo designs, conduct global-local rebranding comparisons, and investigate consumer perception to better understand public interpretations.

Abstract

This community service activity was conducted in Sidamukti Village, Pandeglang Regency, Banten Province. Known for its coastal area, Sidamukti Village is home to a predominantly fishing community. The fishermen harvest various seafood, including clams, a type of seashell commonly used for its edible meat. While the fish is sold and the clam meat is consumed, the shells are often discarded as non-biodegradable waste that pollutes the environment. To address this issue, the PKM team from Universitas Trisakti explored an alternative approach by transforming seashell waste into valuable art. These activities employed the ABCD (Asset-Based Community Development) method, involving four key steps: 1) Observation; 2) Planning; 3) Implementation; and 4) Evaluation. The outcomes included the creation of handcrafted items such as necklaces, brooches, curtains, and lamps. As a result, the village community, particularly women, has become more empowered, and potentially generating additional income to support their families and enhance the local economy.

Abstract

Designing The Visual Identity Of Curug Luhur Tourism Destination In Sukabumi As A Strategy For Image Enhancement Through A Design Thinking Approach. Tourism destinations require strong and consistent visual identities to communicate their unique character and enhance recognition among visitors. Curug Luhur, a natural attraction in Sukabumi, currently lacks a coherent logo, tagline, and visual guideline, resulting in weak brand visibility. This research aims to strengthen the image of Curug Luhur tourism destination through the design of a visual identity using the Design Thinking approach. The study was conducted collaboratively with local residents and village authorities, following the stages of empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. The final design, featuring waterfall and foliage elements in turquoise tones, effectively reflects the natural charm of Curug Luhur. A perception test involving 30 respondents yielded over 85% positive responses in terms of aesthetics, readability, and meaning relevance. The resulting visual identity guideline serves as a strategic tool to ensure communication consistency and reinforce destination branding. Beyond visual outputs, this research also contributed to enhancing community capacity in creative visual promotion and supporting the growth of local creative economy initiatives related to tourism.
