Abstract

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are an organization supported by an independent community, a voluntary and non-profit association. Their activities involve voicing the community and being a third party between the government and the private sector. With environmental issues starting to change and being damaged due to inappropriate government policies, environmental NGOs play an essential role in balancing this condition. This article will discuss the position of NGOs during environmental issues that hit Indonesia observed by two environmental organizations, WALHI and KruHA, taking official information published on their websites and social media. The analysis uses discourse text analysis, deconstruction of meaning or communication messages on official information. This paper argues that not all non-profit organizations act of WALHI and KruHA are NGOs in non-profit organizations. They are outside the government and private sector, the so-called “third sector” that plays a role in the right to water and environmental sustainability. Though they are the same as non-profit NGOs, their movement mechanism is different.

Abstract

Kata kunci: Energi Baru dan Terbarukan, Pemberdayaan Masyarakat, Desa Mandiri Energi, Desa Andung Biru, PLTMH Abstract The process of renewable energy by communities often experiences failures. Various factors contribute to this, such as from complex management, requiring substantial capital, to business competition challenges with other energy sources. These facts serve as the caused for this study to showing the best practices of renewable energy-based electricity management, specifically referred to as Micro Hydro Power Plants (PLTMH), which have been in existence and ongoing since 1993. Through a qualitative research approach, this study reveals that sustainability is due to several interconnected management processes. Firstly, PLTMH begins with the emergence of an idea from a local actor. Secondly, the implementation of this idea involves building PLTMH, which engages various actors from within and outside the village. Thirdly, organizational management is reflected in the collective management of PLTMH by the Tirta Pijar Group. Lastly, the community responds with benefits such as changes in their conditions and the advantages of PLTMH.. Abstract

Kata kunci: tantangan ekonomi; pengetahuan tradisional; pengelolaan adaptif; sumber air suci Abstract This study discusses the economic challenges that local communities face when managing water sources with ritual or sacred purposes, with a focus on the Balinese case study, especially in the SARBAGITA area. This study uses qualitative analysis to investigate the Balinese interpretation of adaptive water management of sacred water resources. According to the results of the analysis, the economic challenges of managing sacred water sources in the Balinese community are influenced by unsuitable governance systems and the economic power of the tourism industry, both of which interact to affect declining water resource quantity and quality. Meanwhile, the Balinese community relies heavily on water for religious practices. Decision-making by customary representatives is required because adaptive management is manifested in indigenous peoples through local wisdom. Understanding traditional water knowledge and values is critical for overcoming economic challenges and accomplishing effective water resource management.
