This research was conducted by using retrospective and prospective design. The primary data was collected by conducting interview and giving questionnaire to the chosen sample. The secondary data was processed by using Food Balance Sheet (FBS) software to measure animal food supply including the number and the energy and protein content. Food self sufficiency was analyzed by production-supply and import-supply ratio. The average animal food supply in 2005, 2006, and 2007 is 21 g/capita/day or 7.66 kg/capita/year, still lower than ideal supply 60 g/capita/day or 21.90 kg/capita/year. Protein supply of animal food is 2.86 g/capita/day, lower than ideal supply 4.8 g/capita/day.

The objective of this study were to: 1) analyze community’s perception about food barn in Lampung Barat District, 2) inventory factors that influence community’s participation in developing food barn in Lampung Barat District, 3) formulate model and strategy in developing participative food barn to reach food security in Lampung Barat District. This research was conducted by using cross sectional design and descriptive analysis approach. The location was chosen by using purposive sampling which were in Tribudi Syukur Village, Sumberjaya Subdistrict and Buay Nyerupa Village,  Sukau Subdistrict. The selection was based on consideration that these villages has different implementation performance of food barn according to the assessment from Food Crops and Horticulture Office in Lampung Barat District. The result of the research shows that the community’s perception category, represented by farmer as sample, based on total perception variable score between Tribudi Syukur and Buay Nyerupa, is different. The general condition of the community (like age, education level, income, etc.) do not have correlation with its perception about food barn. The community’s participation in food barn category, represented by farmer as sample, based on total participation variable score between Tribudi Syukur and Buay Nyerupa, is also different. There is correlation between community’s perception about food barn and its participation in developing food barn activity. The factors that influence community’s participation in developing food barn are tradition to store food by the community, the existence of farmer group, community’s perception about food barn, the existence of regional governmental structural institution in Food Security, regulation or guidance which support food barn developing, governmental program which support food barn development, the development of food market and trading, condition of region which potentially food insecure. The priority of strategy in developing participative food barn based on the result of SWOT analysis that possible to be conducted are 1) develop community’s perception to not relying on market in accessing food, 2) develop perception and community participation empowerment in creating and developing food barn based on regional condition, 3) maintain and build community’s tradition of storing food from self food storing to collective food storing (in group).

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to know the situation of food and nutrition security in West Lampung District, 2) to know the strategic circumstance of food security, and 3) to formulate operational policy recommendation for food and nutrition security in West Lampung District. The primary data was obtained by interview and questionnaire filling in order to formulate alternatives of food security operational policy in West Lampung District. The secondary data was used to know the actual condition of food and nutrition security by using descriptive analysis and to formulate strategic circumstance of food security by using SWOT analysis. The result of the study showed that the situation of food security based on availability, shown by energy availability was 140% of Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for energy (2 200 kcal/capita/day), while the protein availability was 74.28 gram/capita/day. The consumption in West Lampung  District reached 95.6% of RDA for energy in quantity, but only reaches Desirable Dietary Pattern Score 78.8 in quality. The strategic circumstance of food security in West Lampung  District was categorized in quadrant II (supporting diversification strategy). Thus, the first priority of policy recommendation is development of human resource.

Abstract

The objective of this  research was to analyze farmer’s behavior in the production and post harvest management of fresh food (vegetables). A survey and cross sectional study design were applied in this study. The locations are chosen purposively, ie: Sukarame Village in Balik Bukit Subdistrict and Sekincau Village in Sekincau Subdistrict. The sixty respondents were chosen randomly using stratified sampling method. The data was analyzed descriptively and inferentially. Fresh food farmers in West Lampung District had low knowledge about GAP and also had attitude and behavior that was not appropriate with GAP. Activity in farm group and attitude about GAP had significant correlationship with behavior in production and post harvest management. The farmer’s attitude about GAP has bigger influence on the behavior than the activity in farm group.

Abstract

Food Law No. 7 1996 defined food security as a condition in which the fulfillment of food for the household is reflected by the availability of sufficient food both its quantity and quality, safe, evenly distributed and within reach; meanwhile, food quality is defined as the value determined base on the criteria of food safety, nutrition content and trade standard on food stuffs, catables and beverages. The purpose of this study was to analyze the application of food quality and safety principles in the production of food product i.e tempeh at small scale industry in West Lampung. A survey on 15 selected tempeh producers was carried out using a structured questionnaire. Primary and secondary data was collected in this study through interview and observation to the 15 tempeh producers. In the general, all producers had not fully implemented food safety and quality principles as outlined in the GMP guideline. Nevertheless, the tempeh quality produced in West Lampung organoleptically was good. Several issues need to be improved i.e. cleaning raw material (soy bean), using water from safe sources, washing soy bean before and after braising, controlling small animal included mouse, and maintenance and cleany the premises.

Respondentswere all households that have lived in that  village for under five years.  The data collected include socio economic and demographic data, food expenditure and food intake. An Individual energy adequacy level was calculated by comparing actual intake to RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowances). The goal programming method was applied to analyze food consumption optimalization. The results showed that there are 23 food types for consumption in combination for one week. Per capita food expenditure is Rp 4,194.- with Q1 as a lower level and Q3 as an upper level.  Goal programming is the solution giving adequate  energy and protein levels between 90-110%, and > 77% for vitamins and minerals.

Abstract

The chlorophyll is well known as natural antioxidant which is commonly high  level  in some geen leafy and has potential biological effect for a good  health and  has been proved has antioxidant and antimutagenic activity. In fact, a high content of chlorophyll is available in nature but in contrast its found commercially in Indonesia as imported product with a high price. The objectives of this study were to determine of chlorophyll level  of various leaves (Premna oblongifolia Merr., Saurpus androgynus  Merr. Centella asiatica, and Morus alba L),  to produce copper-chlorophyll derivative powder, and to observe its physico-chemical properties. The research showed that cincau leaf had higher level of chlorophyll than other leaves, meanwhile cincau leaf used as material of copper-chlorophyll derivative. Cincau leaves chlorophyll extract solution with Cu2+  100 mg/l level produce the cincau copper-chlorophyll derivative powder with highest  pH, solubility, and geenness compare to other copper levels. The cincau copper-derivate chlorophyll  powder contained chlorophyll 3986 mg/kg, b-carotene 33.8 mg/kg, and contained alkaloid, saponin, tanin, steroid, and glycoside.
