Abstract

This study investigates how doctors employ persuasion strategies (Ethos, logos, and pathos) on Instagram to influence the health behaviors of their followers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Analyzing three influential doctors on social media (DSMIs), the research applies Aristotle's persuasive strategies to understand how these doctors craft messages that drive behavior change and enhance COVID-19 awareness among their 581 followers. Employing a mixed methods approach within the pragmatism paradigm, the study utilizes interviews, literature reviews, content analysis, and surveys for comprehensive data collection. The study reveals that approximately 41% of followers demonstrated a firm intention, with an additional 43% showing a solid intention to change their attitudes and behaviors. About 84% expressed a strong commitment to adopting a healthier lifestyle. The research also identified followers who initially had doubts or confusion about COVID-19 due to misinformation. However, it became convinced of its existence after following the DSMIs' posts, mainly through engaging video content. Engagement is more significant for video content than photos, with pathos, Ethos, and logos effectively fostering engagement. Around 52,438 (314,000) DSMI followers shifted from initial skepticism to meaningful positive attitude transformations, driven by successful engagement through pathos, Ethos, and logos. The study underscores the significance of delivering persuasive and appealing messages to influence behaviors positively. It suggests active social media participation can extend beyond the pandemic, fostering ongoing health awareness.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the influence of ethical leadership on service delivery within uMhlathuze Local Municipality, Kwa-Zulu Natal. Despite having established codes of conduct for councilors and officials, instances of unethical behavior persist, eroding public trust and diminishing employee motivation. The detrimental impact of leaders' unethical conduct on the overall workforce diligence is noteworthy. Widespread corruption in numerous global government institutions, particularly in regions with lax policies, underscores the urgent need for ethical leadership in fostering good governance. However, scant research has delved into the specific context of Kwa-Zulu Natal, particularly examining the repercussions of ethical leadership on service delivery at uMhlathuze Local Municipality. To collect data, the researcher employed questionnaires, surveying a carefully chosen sample of 80 respondents from a broader population of 100 within the study area. The obtained field data underwent meticulous analysis using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), Version 29, employing statistical tools such as frequency tables and graphs among others. Implications include recommendations for leadership development programs emphasizing ethical principles and strategies to reinforce a culture of integrity and effective communication.

Abstract

OJK surveys (2019 and 2022) show that the financial literacy index is lower than the financial inclusion index. The fact that the Financial Education Working Group has not carried out communication activities (diffusion) effectively. This study tries to see the innovation of communication activities from the Financial Education Working Group, as an agent of change in communication activities related to financial literacy to the community, so far. The Diffusion Theory of Innovation from Everett M. Rogers (1995) is used to explain the problem. The method using multiple case studies from Yin (2022) is qualitative descriptive. Interviews were conducted in ”snowball” manner to members of the Financial Education Working Group and the data were analyzed through the interactive model Miles & Huberman (2007). The results show that the relative advantage of diffusion innovation exists, but it is not too significant because of the lack of participation. Compatibility diffusion approaches differ from method to method and are only effective when tailored to the target or recipient of the information. In terms of complexity, the diffusion approaches used are relatively easy because they are often used in, such as,  seminars, workshops, counseling, or in the use of digital media. These diffusion approaches meet the element of trialability.observability; the diffusion approach used can be observed and results include, the number of participants, the enthusiasm of participants, the number of activities, and others.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the influence of CSR disclosure, acceptance of going concern audit opinion and audit quality on market reactions as measured by abnormal returns. The information content in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) disclosure, receipt of going concern audit opinion and audit quality are signals from the company that are predicted to cause a market reaction. The sample was obtained using a purposive sampling method and 20 mining sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2010-2013 were selected. The analytical method used in this research is multiple regression analysis. The results of hypothesis testing show that CSR disclosure, acceptance of going concern audit opinion, audit quality, company size and asset growth rate simultaneously influence abnormal returns. Meanwhile, partial CSR disclosure, acceptance of going concern audit opinion and audit quality do not affect abnormal returns. This implies that financial information is still a reference for investors in making investment decisions. They do not pay much attention to CSR disclosure information, going concern audit opinion and audit quality as a tool for predicting the future. This also shows that the characteristics of investors in the Indonesian capital market are more long-term oriented.
