Abstract

Background: Public awareness of donating blood has been increasing. However, in reality, many prospective donors still do not fulfill the predetermined blood donation requirements. Donors must first undergo a medical examination, measuring blood pressure, blood type, and hemoglobin (Hb) levels, and medical consultation. The eligibility to become a blood donor can then be determined. Objectives: This study aims to determine the eligibility of blood donors based on laboratory examination among university students in Semarang City. Methods: An observational study using a cross-sectional design was conducted at the Central Java Provincial Health Laboratory Center in June 2022. Data collection through laboratory and medical examinations includes preliminary examination (blood type and rhesus examination), hemoglobin and hematocrit examination, and medical examination (body weight, blood pressure, pulse, and body temperature). Data processing was done in stages: editing, coding, entry, and cleaning data. Data analysis was only done descriptively, including frequency distribution and percentage. Data were presented in the form of graphs and tables. Results: More donors were female students (80%), and 100% had positive rhesus. Laboratory examination results showed normal hemoglobin levels (76,7%) and normal hematocrit (95,0%), and standard pulse rate (71,7%). The feasibility of blood donation by students is feasible (43,3%) and not feasible (56,7%).Conclusion: The general health condition of students showed an optimal level of health for blood donation; however, many students in Semarang are not eligible to donate blood.

Abstract

Background: Laboratory examination of urine (urinalysis) is crucial in establishing various diagnoses. Urine examination can be done through macroscopic examination, including color, clarity, and microscopic examination of urine sediment (U-sed) and urine chemical examination such as glucose. Urine sediment is insoluble elements such as erythrocytes, leukocytes, epithelial cells, thorax, bacteria, crystals, fungi, and parasites originating from the blood, kidneys, and urinary tract. Glucosuria is a condition where glucose is found in the urine, and when excessive >180 mg/dL can experience hyperglycemia, the impact is to damage the capillary blood vessels in the kidneys. U-sed is used to identify sediment elements that can be used to detect kidney and urinary tract abnormalities. Objectives: This study aims to determine the U-sed profile in glucosuria at Prodia Clinical Laboratory, Banda Aceh. Methods: Descriptive research using an experimental design and analyzing secondary data from patients with glucosuria and referred for U-sed examination at Prodia Clinical Laboratory, Banda Aceh Branch. The study was conducted in Mai 2022, with a total sample size of 24 respondents. Microscopic examination U-sed data was processed in stages starting from editing, coding, entry, and cleaning data. Data were only analyzed descriptively using frequency distribution. Results: The results of the study of the U-sed profile in patients with glucosuria conditions were abnormal flat epithelial cells (50,0%), the occurrence of leukocyturia (67,7%), the occurrence of hematuria (70,8%), and other sediments that were above normal only 25,0% of patients. Thus, the U-sed profile in patients with glucosuria conditions may be pathological such as infection, inflammation, and stones in the urinary tract. Conclusion: Some of the MSU profile data in patients who performed laboratory examinations at Prodia Banda Aceh showed above-normal threshold values, such as the data of flat epithelial cells, leukocytes, erythrocytes, and some other sentiments that were above normal had a low frequency. Patients who perform urine tests are at risk of infection and inflammation of the urinary tract and even the risk of kidney stones.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic disorders with typical symptoms of hyperglycemia. Blood glucose examination can use a spectrophotometer and a glucometer (Point of Care Test). Although both are used to check blood glucose, these two tools have some differences when viewed from the working principle, the samples used, and their benefits. Both tools have advantages and disadvantages. The cost factor, a spectrophotometer is more expensive and requires more blood and a long time. Compared to glucometers, which are cheaper, easier to use, and have faster results. However, the level of reliability in measuring the value of fasting blood sugar levels is not yet significantly known. Objectives: This study aims to measure the difference in fasting blood sugar levels based on a spectrophotometer examination with a glucometer examination at Sukajaya Health Center, Sabang City. Methods: The analytical descriptive research uses a cross-sectional design. The research was conducted at the Sukajaya Health Center in Sabang City in October 2019. The object of this study was 24 patients. The examination is carried out through a Duplo process to avoid errors. The tools used to check fasting blood sugar levels are Spectrophotometer and Glucometer. Data analysis used non-parametric statistical tests, namely Kruskal Wallis, at 95% CI.Results: The average fasting blood glucose level using a spectrophotometer with repetition twice (Duplo) is 146.83 mg/dl (minimum= 77 mg/dl and maximum= 404 mg/dl). While the average value of fasting blood glucose levels examined using a glucometer is 158,25 mg/dl (minimum = 66 mg/dl and maximum= 424 mg/dl). The results of statistical tests indicate a difference in the average fasting blood glucose levels in patients examined using a spectrophotometer with a glucometer (p= 0,019; p < 0,05) at UPTD Puskesmas Sukajaya Sabang City. Conclusion: Using a glucometer, the results of checking blood glucose levels show a higher value than a spectrophotometer. There are differences in fasting blood sugar levels in patients examined with a spectrophotometer and glucometer.

Abstract

Background: rosella fruit is a fruit that has a high enough vitamin C content. Vitamin C is needed for collagen production and helps the body's metabolic processes. Vitamin C dissolves easily in water and is easily damaged, so care must be taken to get a high enough content. Vitamin C levels are essential to measure, one of which is by using the UV-VIS spectrophotometry method. This study aims to determine differences in vitamin C levels through the length of soaking rosella fruit, commonly used among the public as an alternative to herbal medicine. Objectives: to determine differences in levels of vitamin C in rosella fruit samples through soaking time as is often done among people who drink rosella fruit boiled water as an alternative to herbal medicine. Methods: the design of this research is experimental research, namely to determine the level of vitamin C in rosella fruit soaking through soaking time (10 minutes, 20 minutes, and 30 minutes). Tests were carried out using UV-VIS Genesis spectrophotometry. Results: the study found that the levels of vitamin C found in rosella fruit soaking for 10 minutes was 117.9 mg/50 g, soaking for 20 minutes was 74.778 mg/50 g, and soaking for 30 minutes was 69.621 mg/50 g.Conclusion: this shows that the level of vitamin C content is higher in 10 minutes of immersion compared to 20 and 30 minutes of immersion. Rosella fruit has the potential as a source of vitamin C, therefore, it is recommended to pay attention to the long soaking time of rosella fruit because the longer the soaking time of rosella fruit, the less vitamin C content in the fruit will be
