Abstract

Consuming foods with a large amount of salt is an unhealthy lifestyle that raises blood pressure. People currently love salty foods in Indonesia. One of district in Indonesia called Jeneponto referred to hypertension as Nai’ Cera. The Jeneponto community consumes more significant salty food higher than the provincial average for South Sulawesi. An intervention study was carried out to change the habit of consuming high salt, smoking and drinking coffee. This study is qualitative with participatory action research approach. The in-depth interviews and focused group discussion were addressed to twenty-two informants which involved in an intervention program. Social engineering became the key-point to socialize the importance of the program. Well-trained local people recruited as an agent of change. They followed the social engineering intervention and focused on what people need to reduce hypertension. The program raised awareness on hypertension towards their lives by educating as well as discussing on their risky habits on over consumptions fatty, sugar, salt substances. The successful behavior changes in this program comprised several keys to consider such as: the intervention locations, the closest relationship towards the agent, the agent as frontliner, sustainability of the program, and commitment of all components of intervention.

Abstract

Smart Kampung Banyuwangi is a Banyuwangi Regency government program that is supported by the government in realizing digitalization in the government sector. Even though it focuses on government digitalization, Smart Kampung Banyuwangi also attracts and has an impact on various aspects of community life and government in Banyuwangi, one of which is a form of city branding. This study aims to identify the use of government digital technology (digitalization) developed by Banyuwangi as a form of branding for Banyuwangi Regency. This paper uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a single holistic case study method with data sourced from literature reviews, observations, and field discussions. The results of the analysis show that digitalization carried out by the Government of Banyuwangi with the Smart Kampung Banyuwangi tagline not only encourages improving the quality of government systems and administration, but also encourages the implementation of community empowerment and improving the quality of internet infrastructure in Banyuwangi. Furthermore, the Smart Kampung Banyuwangi tagline can be used as a form of city branding that distinguishes Banyuwangi from other districts/cities in Indonesia. With this differentiating value, it is expected to be able to bring added value that supports regional development and increases people's welfare.

Abstract

The central question of this dissertation is How has contentious politics developed in Maluku Barat Daya as a remote area in Indonesia since Reformasi? This study has resulted in a portrait of the political processes driving the successive splitting of local governments in the southernmost region of the Moluccan Archipelago. It leads to the conclusion that, although Reformasi and Otonomi Daerah might have been the direct cause of the current dynamic, continuous contentious politics in Kabupaten Maluku Barat Daya/MBD (Southwest Maluku Regency) and the southernmost region of the Maluku offer a better explanation of the dynamic political process. I have developed an anthropological understanding of the capacities and practices summoned up by local people in their responses to the external opportunities offered by the national institutional setting and of their capacity to create the opportunity to make socio-political changes themselves. The research methods and tools that I used to collect data are participant observation, interviews and secondary data collection in literature searches, archives, news in newspapers and information spread on social media. I did fieldwork in Indonesia for twelve months in total from the end of February 2018 to February 2019. In this dissertation, I have presented my research findings in a chronological order of the occurrences of contentious politics in the southernmost region of Maluku for over seventy years. I have adopted the term pemekaran to delineate each political process of the eruptions of contentious politics which occurred between 1950 to 1999, 1999 to 2008, and 2008 to 2018.

Abstract

Because of the multiple services that land serves, including maintaining a community's identity and an expanding economic function, land is an integral aspect of human life and existence. While land is the property of the state and is used in line with Article 33 Paragraph (1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, it can be owned by private people or even communal property in the private sector. However, in the Mentawai Islands Regency, land managed by foreigners is given ownership status and is used through a nominee agreement process in both written and unwritten form. On the Mentawai Coast, nominee agreements are a type of land ownership and use through foreign investment, intermarriage and/or interfaith marriages, as well as through labor agreements, there is legal smuggling.Nominee, Use, Coastal Area

Abstract

Despite claims of increasing electrification ratios, some regions in Indonesia still need access to PLN electricity, such as Baturotok Village, located in Batulanteh Subdistrict, Sumbawa Regency. Nevertheless, the community has endeavored to establish self-sustained lighting sources through Community-Based Micro-Hydro Power Plants (PLTMH). This article discusses the collaborative actions and community participation in building PLTMH. Additionally, this article explores the challenges and sustainability aspects of this green infrastructure. The research shows that the community benefits from the presence of PLTMH. Amidst the limitations in electricity, the Baturotok villagers enhance their knowledge and strengthen their socio-cultural networks. That encourages active and consistent participation from the community in the construction and maintenance of PLTMH. However, the coverage of PLTMH has yet to reach all residents of Baturotok Village. Thus, the anticipated improvement in welfare is not significantly visible. Future initiatives should focus on infrastructure development and enhancing the Human Resources of the Baturotok community.

Abstract

Abstract

The study of Indonesian Islamic philanthropy has so far been carried out by scholars with organizations and managerial governance as the locus. The existing studies do not provide enough articulation space for the dynamics of traditional philanthropy. This draws the author's attention to discursively look at the portrait of Islamic philanthropy in Indonesia by placing traditional and modern models more proportionally. The results are, first, Islamic philanthropy is based on religious doctrine. Second, modern and traditional philanthropy have different articulations. Modern philanthropy inevitably tries to adopt neoliberal values by referring to managerialistic, formalized governance for the humanitarian agenda. Meanwhile, traditional philanthropy is limited, interpersonal, based on the ethics of immediacy, and adheres to the justification of Godliness as the main thing, as in the case of Muludan. Third, the traditional and modern models have shown their respective achievements and challenges. Indonesian Islamic philanthropy tells the story of a philanthropic movement that is not singular, reflecting the contestation between Islamic teachings and neoliberal values.
