Abstract

Typhoid fever is a disease caused by bacteria and its treatment requires antibiotics. Antibiotic-resistant bacteria can grow as a result of improper use of antibiotics. The purpose of this study was to determine the rational usage pattern and percentage of antibiotic drug use according to the Gyssens method. This non-experimental study employed retrospective data collecting from the medical records of children treated for typhoid fever at the Dr. Sitanala in 2019–2021 and used the Gyssens technique for analysis. According to the study's findings, 28 patients (46.67%) were classified as irrational, whereas 32 patients (53.33%) were considered rational (category 0). In this study, it can be concluded that the use of antibiotics used in typhoid fever patients, namely ceftriaxone (82,54%), cefotaxime (14.29%), and cefixime (3.17%) with the intravenous route of administration (96.83%) and orally (3.17%). Irrational use of antibiotics included Gyssens category V (antibiotics are not needed) (1.67%), category IVC (there are cheaper antibiotics) (11,86%), category IIIB (the duration of giving antibiotics are too short) (30,51%), category IIA (not the right doses) (20,34%), and category I (not on time to give antibiotics) (18.64%).

Abstract

The wundu watu plant (Alpinia monopleura), is one of the endemic plants typical of Southeast Sulawesi which is commonly found in South Konawe Regency. The results of previous research on the essential oil content of the leaves and fruit of wundu watu are α-caryophyllene, β-pinene, limonene, α-pinene, β-caryophyllene and caryophyllene oxide. The essential oils of the leaves and fruit show antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Pharmacological studies of this plant are not widely known, especially its efficacy as an anti-inflammatory. The purpose of this study was to determine the anti-inflammatory potential of extracts and fractions of wundu watu stem against inhibition of protein denaturation in Vitro. Wundu watu stem extract was extracted by maceration method using methanol solvent and ethyl acetate fraction. Anti-inflammatory testing using the protein denaturation inhibitor method using bovine and albumin and measured on a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 660 nm. The results showed that the extract and ethyl acetate fraction of wundu watu stem had anti-inflammatory activity with IC50 values of 10.59 mg/L and 2.02 mg/L. Based on the test results, it can be concluded that the stem extract of wundu watu has anti-inflammatory potential against protein denaturation with a very strong category.

Abstract

Repellent is a preparation used to avoid bites from insects, including the Aedes sp mosquito. Repellent sticks are applied without direct contact with the hands, unevaporate easily and can last relatively longer on the skin. One of the plants from Southeast Sulawesi, namely Walay fruit (Meistera chinensis), contains triterpenoid and flavonoid compounds which have the potential as an active substance in anti-mosquito repellant. This study aims to formulate repellent sticks of Meistera chinensis fruit extract which effective against Aedes sp. Three formula consists of 1%, 3% and 5% extracts with additional ingredients carnouba wax, cetyl alcohol, Vaseline alba, SLS, propylene glycol, span 80, tween 80, Na benzoate, BHT, eucalyptus and aquadest. The results of the physical evaluation showed the repellent had brown in color, an eucalyptus aroma, solid, homogeneous, pH of 6.8-6.9, melting temperature 60°C-62°C, applied 1x, and was not irritating. After 14 days of storage at room temperature the repellent was stable. The repellent effectiveness against Aedes sp showed that formula C with 5% extract had the highest protection power, namely 90%. The results of the ANOVA statistical analysis obtained a value of sig.0.009 (p<0.05) which shows that there are significant differences in effectiveness between treatment groups.
