Abstract

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) is a major complication in type II Diabetes Mellitus (DM) patients, with a steadily increasing prevalence. Data show that the incidence of DPN increased by 65% in 80 patients undergoing treatment. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) reported that in 2021, approximately 537 million adults worldwide suffered from DM. Obesity is known to increase the risk of developing DM by 2–3 times, while DM duration of ≥10 years plays a significant role in increasing chronic complications due to persistent insulin resistance. The high incidence of DPN prompted this study to analyze the association between duration of DM and obesity with DPN in type II DM patients. This study used a quantitative design with a correlational approach. Data were collected through observations of 80 type II DM patients who underwent examinations during the study period. Analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank correlation test to assess the strength and direction of the association between duration of DM, obesity based on Body Mass Index (BMI), and DPN incidence. The analysis results showed a significant positive correlation between the duration of DM and the incidence of DPN (r = 0.324; p = 0.003), indicating that the longer a person suffers from DM, the higher the risk of developing peripheral neuropathy. Conversely, no significant association was found between the duration of DM and obesity (r = -0.180; p = 0.110), nor between obesity and the incidence of DPN (r = 0.060; p = 0.598). These results highlight the importance of long-term DM management to prevent complications of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN)

Abstract

Around 10–20% of adolescents worldwide experience mental health disorders, including emotional problems. In Indonesia, a recent survey showed that approximately 34.9% of adolescents face mental health issues, with 5.5% experiencing a mental disorder in the past 12 months. At the provincial level, for example, in West Java, the reported prevalence of emotional disorders in adolescents is around 12.1%. This study aimed to identify factors influencing emotional behavior in adolescents, including age, gender, parenting style, and social environment. The research design used in this study was cross-sectional. The sample size was 81 people, and the sampling technique was purposive. Data were collected using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) and a parenting style questionnaire. The Chi-Square test showed significant relationships between emotional behavior and age (p=0.031), gender (p=0.012), parenting style (p=0.004), and social environment (p=0.032). It can be concluded that adolescent emotional behavior is influenced by both internal and external factors. A holistic approach is essential to promote healthy emotional development. Further studies are recommended to explore additional contributing factors

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is a key strategy for improving infant health and survival; however, its achievement remains suboptimal in many countries. Family support has been consistently identified as a major interpersonal determinant influencing exclusive breastfeeding success, highlighting the need for a comprehensive synthesis of recent empirical evidence. This study aims to examine and synthesize findings from empirical research on the role of family support in exclusive breastfeeding success through a narrative literature review. Literature searches were conducted using PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, covering publications from 2020 to 2025. Of the 864 articles initially identified, 15 studies were selected based on predefined inclusion criteria and substantive relevance to the review focus. The synthesis indicates that family support, particularly from husbands and extended family members, is consistently associated with higher exclusive breastfeeding success, with reported odds ranging from approximately two to more than threefold across studies. Family support contributes to enhanced breastfeeding self efficacy, reduced postpartum stress, decreased prelacteal feeding practices, and the establishment of a supportive home environment for breastfeeding. The mechanisms underlying these effects involve interacting psychological, hormonal, and social pathways. These findings underscore the importance of family centered approaches in exclusive breastfeeding promotion, suggesting that health interventions should not focus solely on mothers but actively engage husbands and family members as key partners in supporting breastfeeding practices

Abstract

Postoperative fracture patients have a high risk of delayed wound healing due to limited knowledge and skills in performing independent wound care. Lack of knowledge about proper wound care techniques can increase the risk of infection, prolong the length of stay, and reduce the patient's quality of life. Therefore, structured wound care educational interventions are needed to improve patient understanding and optimize the wound healing process. This study aims to analyze the effect of wound care education on increasing knowledge and accelerating the wound healing process in postoperative fracture patients. This research method uses a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group approach. A total of 40 postoperative fracture patients were divided into an intervention group (n=20) who received structured wound care education and a control group (n=20) who received standard education from Pelamonia Makassar Class II Hospital. The level of knowledge and wound healing conditions were measured before and after the intervention using a structured questionnaire and observation sheet. Data were analyzed using statistical tests with a significance level of 0.05. The results of this study showed an increase in knowledge scores in both groups, with a greater increase in the intervention group than in the control group. The wound healing process in the intervention group showed more significant improvement than in the control group. There is a significant relationship between increasing patient knowledge and accelerating the wound healing process (p<0.001). The conclusion of this study shows that structured wound care education has an impact on increasing the knowledge of fracture patients and contributes to accelerating the wound healing process. Hospitals need to include structured education as a permanent protocol in the SOP for fracture patients.

Abstract

Adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) is a crucial determinant of successful HIV/AIDS management, as it plays a key role in viral suppression, improvement of quality of life, and reduction of morbidity and mortality. Despite the expansion of ART programs in Indonesia, suboptimal adherence remains a significant challenge influenced by individual, social, and healthcare-related factors. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with antiretroviral therapy adherence among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Indonesia. A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted in four provinces in Indonesia: Lampung, South Sumatra, West Java, and East Java. Participants were selected using a multistage sampling technique and met the predefined inclusion criteria. Data were collected using structured questionnaires covering socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge of ART, family support, healthcare provider support, access to health services, and ART adherence measured using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analyses using the chi-square test, with associations expressed as Prevalence Ratios (PR). The findings indicated that ART adherence was significantly associated with knowledge of ART (0,004), family support (0,011), healthcare provider support (0,003), and access to health services (0,031) (p < 0.05). Participants who had good knowledge, strong family support, and adequate support from healthcare providers were more likely to adhere to ART. Antiretroviral therapy adherence among PLWHA in Indonesia is influenced by knowledge, family support, healthcare provider involvement, and access to healthcare services. Strengthening patient education and optimizing the role of nurses in continuous counseling and support are essential strategies to improve ART adherence.

Abstract

Increasing competition in healthcare services requires health facilities to improve service quality and implement effective marketing strategies to sustain service utilization. Patient satisfaction and loyalty are essential indicators because they influence revisit intentions and the long-term sustainability of healthcare institutions. This study aimed to analyze the influence of the marketing mix and service quality on outpatient satisfaction and loyalty at Asinua Health Center, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The research was conducted in December 2025 at the Asinua Health Center involving 128 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test, and multivariate analysis using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) through SmartPLS software. The results showed that most respondents perceived the marketing mix and service quality variables as good. Bivariate analysis indicated that most independent variables were significantly associated with patient satisfaction and loyalty (p < 0.05), except for price and place variables which showed no significant association with patient satisfaction (p > 0.05). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that all independent variables, including product, price, promotion, place, process, tangibles, empathy, reliability, responsiveness, and assurance, had a significant influence on both patient satisfaction and patient loyalty (p < 0.05). The marketing mix and service quality significantly influence outpatient satisfaction and loyalty. Improving service quality and implementing effective marketing strategies are essential to enhance patient satisfaction and strengthen patient loyalty toward healthcare facilities.
