Abstract

Purpose: The food and beverage sector, which contributes significantly to plastic waste in Indonesia, may reduce its usage of single-use plastics by using green process innovation (GPI). By incorporating economic and environmental goals into the strategic management of supply chain operations, Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) can propel this. This study aims to evaluate the role of GPI and GSCM in achieving sustainable corporate performance (SP) in Indonesia, especially in the food and beverage industry. Method: Purposive sampling was used to select samples from the food and beverage industry during the 2021-2023 period which resulted in 12 companies as samples. Path analysis was used as a data analysis method in this study. After that, Warp-PLS 8.0 software was used to process the data obtained. Result: The results showed that GPI has a positive and significant influence on SP, and GPI has a positive and considerable influence on GSCM. Meanwhile, GSCM does not influence SP, and GSCM cannot mediate the influence between GPI and SP.

Abstract

Purpose: Recent technological advancements in manufacturing have diminished employment opportunities for low-skilled workers, particularly in developing economies, resulting in slower job creation and productivity growth. In light of this challenge, many nations are seeking alternative pathways to stimulate economic expansion. This study examines the potential of Nigeria's service sector as a driver of growth, focusing on the impact of key sub-sectors, Education (EDU), Real Estate (RES), Health Services (HES), and Trade (TRD) alongside government regulation (proxied by inflation). Method: The study uses Central Bank of Nigeria data (1981–2023) and applies econometric techniques, including the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test, Johansen Cointegration test, and Error Correction Mechanism (ECM). These assess stationarity, long-run equilibrium, and short-term dynamics. The ADF test confirms stationarity after first differencing, while cointegration reveals five long-term equilibrium relationships. Result: HES significantly boost short-term economic growth, while TRD has a positive but insignificant effect. RES negatively impacts growth, whereas EDU shows an insignificant negative link. To improve performance, the study recommends increased healthcare investment, sustained public administration expansion, and financial reforms to strengthen the service sector, mitigating adverse effects and promoting sustainable growth.

Abstract

Purpose: The study aims to examine the direct influence of innovative behavior, growth mindset, and job flourishing on work productivity, as well as the moderating impact of job flourishing on the influence of innovative behavior and the influence of growth mindset on work productivity. Method: The research sample is employees who have worked productively. The study employs a structural equation modeling approach, utilizing a moderated regression analysis method with Smart PLS. Results: The study's findings demonstrate that innovative behavior, a growth mindset, and job flourishing have a positive impact on work productivity. A flourishing job strengthens the influence of a growth mindset on work productivity. The implication is that to increase employee work productivity, the main strategy priority recommended by this study is to promote innovative behavior, the second priority is to implement a good growth mindset strategy, and the third priority is to adopt a strategy to enhance employee job flourishing. These three things are very effective in increasing work productivity. Another alternative to increase work productivity is to synergize strategies through collaboration with a growth mindset and job flourishing. Job flourishing can enhance the positive impact of a growth mindset on employee work productivity. By combining the growth mindset with job flourishing among employees, employee work productivity will also increase significantly.

Abstract

Purpose: This study seeks to shed light on the often-overlooked role of nano influencers in shaping hedonic consumption among Generation Z (Gen-Z) in Indonesia’s rapidly evolving social commerce landscape. While much attention has been given to macro influencers, our research suggests that smaller, more trusted voices may hold the key to authentic consumer engagement. Method: A cross-sectional survey of 200 Gen-Z consumers was conducted, utilizing Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) via Smart PLS to analyze the influence of nano influencers, reference groups, and communities on hedonic consumption. The research framework focuses on the social dynamics of peer validation over family influence. Result: The findings indicate that nano influencers significantly enhance the influence of peer groups on Gen-Z’s hedonic consumption, while family influence appears less relevant. This result points to a shift in consumer behavior, where peer-driven validation is dominant. Marketers are encouraged to reconsider their strategies, placing greater emphasis on nano influencers for more genuine connections in the social commerce era.

Abstract

Purpose: The hospitality and tourism industry is a vital sector in Indonesia, significantly contributing to the country's economy. East Java is the province with the second-largest number of hotel buildings in all of Indonesia. The largest hotel star category in both Indonesia and East Java, particularly in Surabaya, the capital of East Java, is a three-star hotel. The tight competition in the hospitality industry, especially among the hotels themselves, makes business actors in this industry need to think about ways to survive. A key factor that enables a company to survive in a highly competitive industry is a competitive advantage. This study aims to investigate the impact of market orientation and strategic flexibility on a firm's competitive advantage, as measured by its performance. The study was conducted on three-, four-, and five-star hotels in Surabaya. Method: Research data were obtained through the distribution of questionnaires to owners or managers of three-, four-, and five-star hotels in Surabaya. A total of 110 responses were used as research data and processed using SEM-PLS data processing techniques. Result: The study's results showed that the market orientation variable had an impact on strategic flexibility and competitive advantage, but did not affect firm performance. The strategic flexibility variable was found to affect firm performance and competitive advantage. Firm performance was also found to have a significant effect on competitive advantage.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine, from an Islamic economic standpoint, the effects of online game addiction on the financial behavior of Generation Z in suburban regions. This study is novel because it combines behavioral finance, digital consumption patterns, and Islamic ethical values to investigate how digital-native youth handle their finances after engaging in prolonged gaming. This has not been extensively studied in prior research, especially in the context of Islamic economics. Method: This study used a qualitative case study methodology. 13 members of Generation Z living in suburban Sidoarjo who fit the description of online gamers who play for more than five hours every day and have dealt with in-game purchases made up the unit of analysis. Triangulation was used to ensure the validity of the data. Islamic financial behavior theories served as the foundation for the conceptual framework, and descriptive qualitative analysis with phases of data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing was the analytical methodology employed. Result: The findings reveal that online game addiction significantly influences impulsive and unplanned digital spending habits among Gen Z. While many informants are aware of Islamic financial principles, their application in daily financial decisions remains minimal. However, some informants have begun adopting more responsible behaviors. This study contributes to the growing discourse on Islamic behavioral finance and recommends the development of contextualized Islamic financial literacy models for digital-native generations. Future research may expand into quantitative assessments or comparative studies between urban and rural youth

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to develop a culturally grounded Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism model for Thanh Hoi and Bach Dang islands in Binh Duong, Vietnam. Although both islands possess rich tangible and intangible heritage—from archaeological sites and ancient communal houses to pomelo orchards and wartime narratives—they have yet to feature in formal tourism circuits. The novelty lies in employing a transdisciplinary co-design approach, involving academic researchers, local residents, cultural officers, and tourism businesses. Method: The study employed Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) workshops with community members, semi-structured interviews with 35 stakeholders (including local authorities and tourism providers), and field observations. The conceptual framework integrated systems knowledge, target knowledge, and transformation knowledge, analyzed using thematic coding and comparative stakeholder analysis. Result: Key findings reveal that while the islands have high cultural tourism potential, development is hindered by infrastructure gaps (internet, event venues), fragmented branding, and limited service capacity. Stakeholders proposed innovative MICE products—such as agro-heritage retreats and river-ecology workshops. The study concludes that a stakeholder-driven, heritage-based MICE model can position these rural islands as distinctive destinations. Future research should test the model’s scalability in similar riverine heritage sites across Southeast Asia.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examined the optimization of a stochastic sustainable closed-loop supply chain network for multi-product, single-period operations in a beverage company in Benin City, Nigeria, with a focus on five beverage products (Coke, Fanta, Sprite, Big Cola, and Eva). Method: The research employed a scenario-based stochastic mixed integer linear programming (SMILP) modeling approach to address demand uncertainties while minimizing costs and environmental impact. The network integrates forward and reverse logistics, including manufacturing, warehousing, retailing, disposal, recycling, recovery, redistribution, and remanufacturing stages. Result: Key findings reveal optimal product allocation scenarios for each product, demonstrating significant cost savings through remanufacturing and recycling. For instance, 94-100% of PET bottles were recovered and reused, reducing reliance on virgin materials and lowering production costs. The total environmental impact was quantified at 481,360 kg of CO₂, with variations across products due to differences in recycling efficiency and reverse logistics costs. The total network cost was optimized to N144,315,000, balancing economic and sustainability objectives. The study highlights the viability of closed-loop supply chains in emerging markets, emphasizing the role of stochastic optimization in managing demand variability. Practical implications include strategies for enhancing resource efficiency, reducing waste, and improving circular economy practices in the beverage industry.

Abstract

Purpose: The United States’ April 2025 “Trump 2.0” order— combining a blanket 10 percent tariff with country-specific “reciprocal” surcharges—represents the largest single expansion of U.S. protectionism since the 1930s. For Indonesia, the measure imposes a 32 percent duty on its exports, threatening one tenth of merchandise sales and large segments of Java’s labour-intensive manufacturing. This study provides an early-stage qualitative policy analysis of the shock. Method: A triangulated research design integrates: (i) comparative historical review of past U.S. tariff waves; (ii) desk analysis of high- frequency customs and freight data through March 2025; and (iii) input–output tracing with the 2021 Indonesian Supply–Use Table to assess import-content vulnerability. Result: Findings indicate a first-year export shortfall of ~USD 1 billion (0.3 % of GDP), with 55 % of exposure concentrated in HS 85 electrical machinery, HS 61–62 apparel, and HS 64 footwear. A 10 % rupiah depreciation would raise production costs by 4.7 % in West Java electronics and 3.2 % in Central Java garments, given import coefficients of 0.47 and 0.32. Indirect spillovers are significant: China and ASEAN supply 65 % of Indonesia’s intermediate imports and are discounting diverted components, threatening assembly-line utilisation below the 85 % shutdown threshold. Policy resilience requires a five-point package: surplus-management diplomacy, selective MFN concessions on U.S. capital goods, accelerated Asia– Africa market diversification, safeguards against diversion imports, and coordinated macro-financial support for export-oriented SMEs. Future research should combine post-implementation customs data with firm-level panels to measure household income effects and evaluate mitigation efficacy.
