Abstract

Self-confidence is an important aspect in students' psychological development. Several eighth-grade students were found to have low self-confidence, demonstrated through behaviors such as fear of public speaking, hesitation in making decisions, and lack of activity in class activities. This problem needs to be addressed immediately through an appropriate counseling approach. This study aims to implement and evaluate the cognitive defusion technique in individual counseling to improve students' self-confidence. The approach used was a single-subject experimental research (Single-Case Experimental Design) with an A-B format. In phase A (baseline), an initial self-confidence measurement was conducted without treatment. Furthermore, in phase B (intervention), individual counseling using the cognitive defusion technique was conducted for several sessions. The subjects in this study were eighth-grade students who had been identified as having low self-confidence. The instrument used was a validated self-confidence questionnaire. Data analysis used quantitative descriptive analysis. Based on the results and discussion of the study, it can be concluded that individual counseling using the cognitive defusion technique is effective in improving the self-confidence of students with low self-confidence. This was demonstrated by an increase in AD students' self-confidence questionnaire scores from a baseline of 50 (low category) to a final score of 90 (high category) after four sessions of intervention. This gradual improvement indicates that the technique successfully helped students break free from negative thoughts that hindered their self-confidence.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze herbal medicine as a representation of ethnoscience in the context of science learning, examine the relevance of herbal medicine to the principles of contextual education in elementary schools, and explore the potential of herbal medicine in supporting science literacy and preserving local wisdom. This study uses a qualitative approach with an ethnographic design. Data were collected through observation, interviews with herbal medicine sellers and consumers, and a documentary study of elementary school curriculum documents. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model and the Gioia method to identify coding, categorization, and main themes. The results indicate that knowledge of herbal medicine has been passed down from one generation to the next. Additionally, herbal medicine sellers also enhance their knowledge through literature and participate in modern training activities organized by the health office. From the consumers' perspective, herbal medicine remains trusted for its empirical benefits, even though its popularity has declined among the younger generation. Documentation of the Merdeka Curriculum reveals that biodiversity learning in fourth-grade elementary school can be effectively integrated with local potential, such as herbal medicine, thereby supporting more contextual science learning. The study's results conclude that herbal medicine can be effectively utilized as a learning medium that bridges traditional knowledge with modern science, while preserving local wisdom. Further research is recommended to develop ethnoscience-based teaching materials, conduct experimental studies on science literacy, and explore other local wisdom relevant to science learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

The integration of gamification platforms like Wordwall and Quizizz in higher education mathematics is often evaluated based on cognitive outcomes. However, the affective dimension, specifically mathematical resilience, remains under-explored. This qualitative research investigates the dynamics of students' mathematical resilience during gamified learning. The study involved 17 Mathematics Education students from Universitas PGRI Adi Buana PSDKU Blitar. Data were collected through participant observation, score documentation, and in-depth interviews. The thematic analysis revealed three main themes: (1) "Adrenaline Rush vs. Mental Block," where timer features triggered anxiety in students with low resilience; (2) "Leaderboard Effect," where public ranking negatively impacted self-esteem for lower-ranked students; and (3) Coping Strategies, distinguishing resilient students who used failure for self-evaluation from those who resorted to random guessing. The study concludes that high digital scores do not necessarily reflect psychological comfort. Future instruction must balance competitive elements with affective scaffolding to foster true mathematical resilience.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the student’s perceptions about their learning interest based on learning environment. Data collection using a survey with a population of all 153 students of Biology and Mathematics Education in year of 2022, 2023 and 2024, with 108 students as sample using stratified random sampling. This survey is related to students perceptions about their learning interest with 5 aspects such as attention, curiosity, excitement, meaningfulness, and involvement from Mitchel (1993), that measured based on their learning environment including physical environment, social environment and the ease of their learning process. The results showed that learning interest is significantly influenced by three key aspects of the learning environment: physical surroundings, social environment, and the ease of the learning process. The physical environment, particularly environmental factors (57.4%), had the greatest effect on students’ attention (28,7%) and curiosity (23,1%) as comfortable, bright, and well-ventilated classrooms improved focus and engagement, then following with excitement (17,5%), meaningfulness (16,6%), and involvement (13,8%). The social environment, dominated by teacher–student interactions (37.9%), most strongly influenced involvement (36,1%) and excitement (28,7%), fostering motivation and a sense of belonging, then following with meaningfulness (13,8%), curiosity (12,9%), and finally students’ attention (8,3%). Meanwhile, the ease of the learning process, especially the clarity of material presentation (37.9%), enhanced attention (22,2%), then both meaningfulness and involvement (20,3%), lastly both curiosity and excitement (18,5%). So,it showed that a comfortable, interactive, and well-organized learning environment plays a crucial role in strengthening students’ learning interest.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relevance of curriculum development theories proposed by Ralph Tyler, Hilda Taba, and Elliot Eisner in strengthening the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum to address 21st-century challenges. Amidst the demands of the digital era, PAI requires a robust conceptual foundation to balance competency achievement with character formation. This study employs a qualitative library research method utilizing a philosophical-pedagogical approach. Data were collected from the scholars' primary works and recent literature, then analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results indicate that the three theories offer complementary strategic contributions: (1) Tyler's theory provides a rational structure through clear competency-based objectives and measurable evaluation; (2) Taba's theory offers a grassroots approach that empowers teachers to diagnose student needs contextually; and (3) Eisner's theory reinforces the aesthetic dimension and hidden curriculum for the internalization of spiritual values. It is concluded that the revitalization of PAI requires a synthesis of these three paradigms. The integration of Tyler's accountability, Taba's flexibility, and Eisner's humanism produces an adaptive, innovative, and holistic PAI curriculum design aimed at shaping a generation with noble character in the era of globalization.

Abstract

This research aims to determine teachers’ perceptions, challenges, and strategies in implementing digital-based Islamic learning in madrasahs, addressing the need to understand how technology can support religious education while maintaining alignment with Islamic values. The study employed a qualitative research design, collecting data through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document reviews involving six Islamic Education (PAI) teachers at MTs Al-Kifayah. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data, identifying recurring patterns and categorizing them into six main themes: positive perceptions of digital media, limited technological infrastructure, lack of pedagogical digital competence, concerns regarding Islamic content appropriateness, sporadic implementation with minimal curriculum integration, and adaptive strategies employed by teachers. The results indicate that teachers recognize the pedagogical potential of digital tools to enhance student engagement and comprehension but face structural, pedagogical, and ethical barriers that limit consistent integration. Despite these challenges, teachers demonstrate agency through informal learning, experimentation, and peer collaboration to optimize digital use within existing constraints. The study concludes that systematic interventions; such as targeted professional development, infrastructure improvement, curriculum integration, and provision of curated Islamic digital content are necessary to transform digital learning from an episodic activity into a sustained pedagogical practice. Further research is recommended to examine scalable models for integrating technology in Islamic education and to assess the long-term impact on student learning outcomes and moral development.
