Abstract

The presence of dye liquid waste from industry that is discharged into public drainage channels will cause environmental pollution, especially water ecosystems. The impact caused when exposed to waste such as health problems, such as allergies, skin irritation, cancer, and mutations in humans. The most widely used waste treatment method is adsorption. This method was chosen because it has high efficiency, easy, and cheap. The success of the adsorption method depends on the type of adsorbent used. One of the adsorbents that has a large adsorption capacity is metal organic frameworks. This study aims to determine the adsorption capacity using a sulvothermally synthesized Metal Organic Frameworks adsorbent using FeCl3.6H2O metal with terephthalic acid organic ligand. The dyes used as adsorbates are cationic malachite green (MG) and violet dye (VD) which are hazardous wastes from the textile industry in Bengkulu city. Determination of adsorption capacity is done by first determining the optimum conditions which include pH, contact time, adsorbent weight, and temperature. The optimum conditions for MG dye were at pH 5, at a mass of 2.5 mg, a contact time of 60 minutes, at a temperature of 30°C and a concentration of 50 ppm. While the VD dye was at a mass of 10 mg, a contact time of 40 minutes, pH 4, temperature 30°C and a concentration of 50 ppm. The adsorption capacity of MG and VD dyes were 625.00 mg/g and 384.61 mg/g.

Abstract

Lombok Island has a distinctive culture and produces handicraft products with cultural motifs such as traditional woven fabrics of the Sasak tribe. Dyeing of woven fabrics using natural and artificial dyes. For artificial dyes, one of which is methylene blue dye. Residual water or former dyeing in coloring is usually immediately discharged into the environment which causes pollution or hazardous waste for living things. The presence of dyes greatly affects the environment because of their high toxic effects, can cause allergies and skin irritation, and can cause gene changes and are carcinogenic. Based on these problems, processing is needed to reduce the pollutant substances that are generated. One of the technologies used is adsorption using a natural adsorbent that is efficient and easy to obtain, namely activated carbon baggase (bagasse). Bagasse carbon made through the pyrolysis stage (carbonation process) at a certain temperature can be used as an alternative adsorbent for the adsorption of pollutant dyes. This study aims to determine the characteristics and adsorption efficiency of methylene blue by activated carbon baggase. This study used experimental methods with gravimetric techniques, batch techniques, and samples were analyzed using Uv-Vis Spectrophotometry. A 10 mL sample of 10 ppm methylene blue was contacted with one gram of activated carbon baggase. The research was conducted in six stages. The first stage is to prepare activated carbon baggase adsorbents. The second, third, and fourth stages are optimization of the methylene blue solution. The fifth to the sixth stage is the measurement of methylene blue adsorption on activated carbon baggase adsorbents with variations in pH and contact time. Characteristics of activated carbon baggase in this study obtained a moisture content of 4.64% and an ash content of 5.37%. The optimum pH was obtained at pH 5 with an adsorption efficiency of 86.4%, while the optimum contact time was obtained at 80 minutes with an adsorption efficiency of 86.9%. From these results it can be concluded that the activated carbon baggase adsorbent is effective in adsorbing methylene blue so that it can be used to overcome pollution problems caused by dye waste.

Abstract

Cabbage is a vegetable that thrives in Indonesia. This type of vegetable is a vegetable that is not durable and prone to decay and produces organic waste waste from cabbage leaves which causes unpleasant odors that can pollute the environment. Waste from cabbage can be used as a base for making eco-enzyme fluids. Eco-enzyme liquid is a liquid produced from the fermentation of organic waste, this liquid has a reddish brown color, has a fresh and strong odor. This eco-enzyme contains propionate acid which can inhibit microorganisms in the decay process so that it can be used as a natural preservative. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of adding eco-enzyme solutions on tomato fruit preservation and to find out on what day of the tomatoes decomposed and changes in tomatoes that were not sprayed with eco-enzymes. This type of research is an experimental study using 2 types of substrate variations, namely by using the basic ingredients of making eco-enzyme liquid using palm sugar with cabbage waste (Variable 1) and sugar with cabbage waste (Variable 2). Based on the research results, it was found that the eco-enzyme liquid, palm sugar substrate was 60% and granulated sugar substrate was 40% and the most effective eco-enzyme liquid for natural preservatives in tomatoes is eco-enzyme using palm sugar.
