Abstract

Rice straw is one of material containing cellulose to produce Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC). CMC is a non toxic polysaccharide that produces from cellulose that widely used in the pharmaceutical, food, textile, detergent, and cosmetic products industries. There are two stages usually use to produce CMC which are mercerization and esterification processes. Rice straw waste is one of the materials to produce CMC, it has a cellulose content of 37.7%, hemi-cellulose 21.99%, and lignin 16.62 %.  BPS Aceh shown that the total rice harvested area was 310.01 hectares, with a total production of 1.71 million tons, and rice produced at 982.57 thousand ton. This study aims to reduce waste and environmental pollution caused by rice straw and collects information of rice straw as a basic material to produce of carboxymethyl cellulose and to increase the economic value of rice straw.  The effects of various wieght parameters sodium monochloroacetate on chemical properties of CMC that produce from rice straw were investigated in this research. Rice straw was collected from a rice field in Nisam, North Aceh. The research conducted by synthesizing 5 grams rice straw for 5.5 hours using NaOH and Sodium Monochloroacetate solutions. With variations weight of sodium monochloroacetate are 5,6,7,8 and 9 grams. The characterization of CMC was carried out by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), CMC yield, DS, Viscosity, water content, pH. The result shows that addition of sodium monochloroacetate was significant factors influence the chemical properties on CMC. The CMC that produced in this study achieved to National Indonesia Standard (SNI).

Abstract

At this time the cost of electricity is very expensive which is felt by the community because the government is still exploring oil and natural gas which is the need for non-renewable energy sources that are running low. This non-renewable energy still dominates for power generation in the thousands of Mega Watts. To anticipate the problem of non-renewable energy that is so big, you can use the On Grid-Tie System, sunlight is converted into DC voltage through the Solar Module, a pure DC voltage that comes out of the solar module. And Off Grid-Tie System namely sunlight is converted into DC voltage through the Solar Module, pure DC voltage generated from the solar module. Then the pure DC voltage uses a DC to DC regulation module or is called a DC regulator. DC regulator which aims to regulate the storage of DC current into the battery. Then the battery is used to supply power to the inverter. The method used in this study uses an off-grid solar home system as a power supply for households that are far from the electricity network or save electricity consumption due to expensive electricity rates. For settings for the intensity of sunlight using a portable holder, the solar panels are shifted manually in order to get the optimal light intensity to produce large output power. In off-grid application testing at household loads, from a load test of 93.5 watts to 750 watts, it shows that the load current is getting bigger and the discharging current is also large so that the duration of using the off-grid system from a load of 93.5 watts is 6 hours long and at a load of 750 watts. up to 15 minutes. This is because the condition of the lead-acid battery is maintained from 13.56 to 11.5 Volt DC, the battery should not be forced below the 11.5 Volt voltage because it will cause damage to the battery. For the use of loads that respond to very high instantaneous currents such as electric irons, dispensers, rice cookers should use more batteries and use an off-grid system voltage higher than 12 Volt DC.

Abstract

A sterilizer is a pressurized steam vessel used to boil palm oil. The condition of the sterilizer at PT .X often emits steam at the door and body of the stew. Throughout 2020, there were 12 critical components that were frequently damaged, such as ball valve, actuator, exhaust valve, packing door, elbow, condensate nozzle, liner, pipe, condensate valve, strainer valve, pipe flange, and packing flange. Fault Tree Analysis is an analysis tool that graphically translates the combinations of errors that cause system failures. Reliability Block Diagram is a diagramming method for showing how reliability components contribute to the success or failure of a complex system. Based on the results of the failure calculation using fault tree analysis, the probability of failure of the horizontal sterilizer component is the ball valve 12.2%, exhaust valve 10.9% actuator 6%, door packing 0.24%, elbow 0.24%, condensate nozzle 4.8%, liner 8.61%, 0.25% pipe, 0.21% condensate valve, 4.4% filter valve, 0.22% pipe flange and 0.27% packing flange. The reliability value of the horizontal sterilizer from the calculation using the reliability block diagram is 85.69% if it operates for 8 hours, 62.93% if it operates for 27 hours, 39.6% if it operates for 54 hours, 13.34% if it operates for 117 hours. o'clock. o'clock. o'clock. hours and 1.81% when operating for 234 hours. To maintain reliability above 60%, the preventive maintenance schedule is: Every 80 hours of operation a door packing inspection is carried out. Every 234 hours of operation, elbow tubing and flanges are checked. Every 300 hours of operation, a pipe inspection is carried out. Every 450 operational hours an inspection is carried out on the ball valve, condensate nozzle, liner, actuator, and exhaust valve. Every 30 hours of operation, valve condensate, filter valves and packing flanges are checked.

Abstract

Acid sulphate soils (ASS) had low pH, low nutrients availability and also soluble aluminium and iron were high. Inoculum of sulphate reducing bacteria (SRB) which organic matter as media could increased the soil pH, nutrient content and decrease sulfur-total of acid sulfate soils. The research was conducted in a randomized block design with two replications. This study used a randomized block design with two factors and two replications. The first factor was compost inoculum (C) was taken ten treatments from without any  inoculum SRB and 9 treatment with different types and dosages of organic matter as media. The second factor was the water content condition (K) namely of K1: 100% field capacity and K2: 110% field capacity. Different types and dosages of organic matter appear to influence the changes in soil properties (tends to decrease soil sulfate and increase soil pH, and nutrient content levels in soil and plant). Inoculum SRB of palm oil empty bunches and weed gave a higher sulfate reduction compared to C0 (without inoculums) or inoculums with carrier media that used rice straw in water content 100% or 110% field capacity (FC).

Abstract

The configuration of new type of turbine is the Archimedes wind turbine with a spiral structure whose design is inspired by logarithmic spirals. This type of wind turbine uses lift and drag to harness the kinetic energy of the wind. The eccentric design has aerodynamic characteristics that have been the focus of previous research. The design is made from the arrangement of the Fibonacci sequence (1x1, 2x2, 3x3, 5x5, 8x8) or commonly known as the golden ratio. This study aims to analyze the coefficient of lift (CL) and coefficient of drag (CD) with variations opening angle of 35°, 45°, 65°, air fluid, turbulent flow, Re 1200, pressure distribution 1 atm, wind speed 5, 5 and 15 m/s. The results is at wind speed of 5.5 m/s, an angle of 35°, the CL value is 1.07E+02, the CD value is 4.02E+04. At wind speed of 5.5 m/s, an angle of 45°, the CL value is 1.08E+04, the CD value is 1.77E+01. At wind speed  of 5.5 m/s, an angle of 65°, the CL value is 1.84E+06, the CD value is 3.68E+04. At wind speed  of 15 m/s, an angle of 35°, the CL value is 2.20E+03, the CD value is 9.76E+02. At wind speed  of 15 m/s, an angle of 45°, the CL value is 5.51E+04, the CD value is 4.12E+02. At wind speed  of 15 m/s, an angle of 65°, the CL value is 5.96E+01, the CD value is 1.33E+03. Based on this, it can be concluded that at wind speed  of 5.5 m/s the higher the opening angle, the higher CL produced. At wind speed  of 15 m/s the larger the opening angle the CD increases. This is because the higher the angle, the more it receives sweeps or catches the wind. While the unstable value generated in this simulation is generally a weakness in the wind turbine design.

Abstract

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel for diesel machine comprosied of alkyl monoesters deriving from vegetable oils or animal fats. Cooking oil is an oil originated from vegetable or animal fat which has been priorly purified, where it appears in liquid form at room temperature and is usually used to fry food ingredients. Heterogenous catalyst is a catalyst present in different phase with the reagent in a reaction it catalyzes. Kalium content in banana in a banana bunch is sufficiently high reaching 94.4%. The aim of this study was to utilize banana bunch which has been priorly ashed using furnace at 700°C for 4 hours, thereafter, applied as a heterogenous catalyst in a the preparation process of biodiesel from cooking oil. Processing variables investigated in this research included the influences of the number of catalyst (3, 4, 5, 6, and 7%) and molar rasio of oil and methanol (1:5, 1:6, 1:7, 1:8, and 1:9) against the properties of produced biodiesel, namely density, viscosity, and water content which later compred with Indonesian standard (SNI). From the study, it was obtained maximum yield of 90.97% with methanol:oil rasio of 1:7 at processing temperature of 60°C with reaction time of 90 minutes and catalyst as much as 3 % w/w. The characteristics of the cooking oil-based biodiesel obtained from the a reaction with oil: methanol rasio of 1:6 and catalyst as much as 3% w/w were density 850 kg/m3 and viscosity 621 mm2/s. This research showed that the obtained biodiesel characteristics had been sufficient according to the SNI, and the use of calcinated banana bunch was very potential in the production of biodiesel acting as solid catalyst person.
