Abstract

The depik (Rasbora tawarensis) is one of the leading fishery commodities in Central Aceh Regency and is endemic to Laut Tawar Lake. Due to overfishing and environmental degradation, the depik is now endangered, necessitating domestication. The success of the domestication stage is influenced by providing feed that meets the fish's needs, such as Artemia encapsulated with spirulina to enhance the nutritional quality of the Artemia. This study aims to evaluate the effect. of spirulina dosage as an Artemia enrichment material on the growth performance of depik. The applied research design was a completely randomized design with four treatments replicated four times. The treatments included Artemia without bioencapsulation (Treatment 1/P1), Artemia bioencapsulation with 0.5 g of spirulina powder per liter of water (Treatment 2/P2), Artemia bioencapsulation with 1 g of spirulina powder per liter of water (Treatment 3/P3), and Artemia bioencapsulation with 2 g of spirulina powder per liter of water (Treatment 4/P4). The parameters observed were absolute length growth (ALG), absolute weight growth (AWG), specific growth rate (SGR), and survival rate. Based on the ANOVA test, different doses of spirulina had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on the growth and survival of depik fry. The higher the dose given, the higher the growth and survival performance produced. Based on the Duncan test, the best treatment was shown in Treatment 4, namely the provision of bioencapsulated Artemia with 2 g of spirulina powder as feed for the depik fry.

Abstract

The intertidal zone of Nusi Island, Nabire Regency, is a habitat for sea cucumbers. Nusi Island is part of a group of small islands administratively located in Makimi District and is privately managed by the Kipuw family, implementing the “sasi” customary system, which regulates resource utilization. This study aims to identify sea cucumber species and analyze their abundance on Nusi Island as baseline information for island owners and local government. The study was conducted from June to August 2023. A total of 13 sea cucumber species were identified, belonging to four genera: Holothuria (four species), Bohadschia (six species), Pearsonothuria (one species), and Actinopyga (two species). The abundance of sea cucumbers in the first, second, and third observations was 91 individuals/250 m² (0.36 individuals/m²), 49 individuals/250 m² (0.20 individuals/m²), and 37 individuals/250 m² (0.15 individuals/m²), respectively. The mean total abundance of sea cucumbers on Nusi Island was 177 individuals per 250 m² (0.71 individuals/m²). The highest relative abundance was found in the sand sea cucumber (Holothuria scabra), followed by the banded sea cucumber (Actinopyga bannwarthi), while the eyed sea cucumber (Bohadschia ocelata) showed the lowest relative abundance. The relatively even distribution of individuals among species suggests that the sea cucumber community structure is comparatively stable and well-balanced. Environmental parameters, including pH, salinity, and temperature, were within the appropriate range for sea cucumber survival. This study provides baseline data to support the designation of conservation or limited-use zones and to guide sustainable sea cucumber management within an integrated coastal management (ICM) framework.

Abstract

The blue swimming crab is a leading commodity in Karawang Regency in terms of economic value. It is marketed locally and internationally. Blue swimming crabs are sold to consumers both alive and processed, so a supply chain process is needed that can meet consumer demand quickly and maintain excellent quality. This study aims to analyze the management, structure, and costs of the blue swimming crab supply chain and evaluate its external performance using the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) method, which is considered a systematic approach for measuring supply chain performance. This study was conducted in Tirtajaya District, Cilamaya Wetan District, and at a blue swimming crab processing company in Cirebon. The results of this study include an explanation of the supply chain targets, supply chain structures, types of costs incurred by fishermen, traders, collectors, and suppliers, as well as the value of the external performance of the supply chain. The research subjects consisted of fishermen, traders, and collectors. The structure of the blue swimming crab supply chain in Karawang Regency had two different flows or chain networks from fishermen to suppliers. The costs generally incurred are operational costs, including diesel fuel, supplies, fishing gear, bait (if using traps), and transportation. External performance measurements of the blue swimming crab supply chain in Karawang Regency consistently yield superior results across all indicators. However, the order fulfillment indicator yielded parity due to the lean season.

Abstract

One of the fishery potentials in Rawa Pening Lake, Semarang Regency, is the indigenous fish. The indigenous fish in this lake have declined due to changes in water quality, intensive fishing activities, and interspecies competition for resources. Some indigenous fish species in this lake include the spotted barb, silver barb, three-spot gourami, and marble goby. The purpose of this study was to analyze the food composition of four indigenous fish species. This study was conducted from October to December 2023. The sampling locations consisted of three stations at different depths (0, 1, and 2 m). Food composition analysis used the index of preponderance. This study found that four indigenous fish of Rawa Pening Lake utilize litter as the main food, phytoplankton as a complementary and additional food source. Zooplankton serve as an additional food source for spotted barb and three-spot gourami. Small fish serve as additional food for the marble goby. These differences in fish diet composition are due to adaptation to available food sources in the water.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The Indian halibut (Psettodes erumei) is classified as data deficient on the IUCN Red List. Accurate species identification is a fundamental prerequisite for sustainable fisheries management and biodiversity conservation. This study aims to identify the Indian halibut landed from Cilacap waters, Indonesia, using an integrative morphological and molecular approach. Four specimens collected in March and June 2025 were analyzed using an integrated morphological and molecular approach. Morphological identification was based on detailed morphometric and meristic analyses, cross-referenced with standard taxonomic guides. Molecular identification involved DNA extraction, PCR amplification of the mitochondrial Cytochrome C Oxidase Subunit I (COI) gene, electrophoresis, sequencing, and comparison with global genetic databases using BLAST. Morphological characteristics aligned with the description of P. erumei, though significant morphometric differences from a historical reference suggest potential local phenotypic variation. DNA barcoding confirmed the identity with 100% sequence similarity to conspecifics from other Indo-Pacific regions (GenBank accession: PX599017.1). Phylogenetic analysis further placed the Cilacap samples within a genetically homogeneous cluster of P. erumei from across Indonesian waters. This research successfully contributes to Indonesia's biodiversity database and DNA barcode library for a commercially exploited yet understudied species. It also provides essential baseline data to inform stock assessments and conservation strategies in the region.

Abstract

Pangasius (Pangasius sp.) skin, a by-product of fillet processing, is a potential alternative source of collagen. This study investigated the effect of varying concentrations of crude bromelain enzyme, extracted from pineapple core, on the characteristics and antioxidant activity of Pangasius skin collagen hydrolysate. Collagen was extracted and hydrolyzed from Pangasius skin using this enzyme. The activity unit and specific activity of the crude bromelain enzyme were 3.10 ± 0.32 U/mL and 24.04 ± 2.23 U/mg, respectively. The pH of the resulting collagen hydrolysate ranged from 5.57 ± 0.08 to 6.43 ± 0.04, the degree of hydrolysis ranged from 50.37 ± 2.95 to 66.03 ± 7.77, and solubility ranged from 76.7 ± 0.79 to 79.5 ± 2.23. The optimal enzyme concentration was determined to be 3%, yielding collagen hydrolysates with a low molecular weight (15.9–11.6 kDa) and very strong antioxidant activity (IC50 value of 33.99 µg/mL). Analysis of functional groups revealed the presence of Amide A, B, I, II, and III peaks. The ratio of the Amide III peak to the C-H group bending vibration peak was 0.91, indicating that the collagen hydrolysate retained the triple-helix structure and had not been denatured into gelatin.
